The head coaches should choose the MVP in their respected leagues . The sports writers aren't in the trenches with these players. They are obviously bias, and have made some ridiculous decisions over the years. This guy in Chicago placed Frank Thomas above Jeter, how much more obvious can his bias be?

If Joe Cowley,didn't want to be the news then he wouldn't have gone on every interview he could get.He obviously wanted the exsposure or he would have declined the offers.
Then he goes further by selecting three twins,one white sox.and one red sox.Mornoe and Mauer were good picks even Dye and Ortiz even though they were on teams that didn't make the playoffs.But to pick Santana that just screams of I hate the yankees.Santana had a very good year but he wasn't even the best pitcher on his taem.Until his injury Leriano had that distinction. |

In the article, your statement "... Derek Jeter sixth on his MVP ballot - lower than any other voter. It didn't cost Jeter the award ..." is incorrect. The writer had the winner first. If Derek were second on his ballad, Derek would have won the award. And we all know there is no way Derek should be lower the second on anyone's ballad!

i think fans should vote because they pay for everything players coaches managers writers should all have a part of the vote
|
||||
|
as far as jeter sixth on a ballot whoever the voter is should not be voting he obviously is a yankee hater or a complete fool
|
||||
|
baseball pitchers have the cy young award they should not qualify for m.v.p.only players who play almost every day should qualify for the m.v.p. award plus fans who pay for everything should have a vote,managers,coaches,players should also vote

I think some of the media, especially the New York media, need to get a life. Contrary to what some may think, they are NOT cheerleaders for the team, and they should NEVER be. Just report the news that is going on, and let the fans and the idiots that host sports talk radio shows to act like fools. I unfortunately see some media acting like cheerleaders for their teams, especially in small market areas and places where the local minor league team is the big team in town. This shouldn't happen despite what people think.

First of all, there is no such thing as a "Most Valuble Player". Second, the Cy Young award is misnamed. It should be called the Walter Johnson award. Johnson was a far better pitcher than Cy Young. Remember , half of Young's career was before 1900 when the rules of the game were different.

THESE AWARDS SHOULD BE VOTED FOR BY THE PEOPLE WHO ARE ALWAYS AROUND THE CANDIDATES. EITHER PLAYERS,COACHES OR MANAGERS,PROBABLY A COMBINATION OF ALL THREE. PEOPLE THAT CAN APPRECIATE THE VALUE THESE INDIVUALS REALLY GIVE TO THEIR TEAM.

Is this the same Joe Cowley who used to pitch for the Yankees?? I think any system used to vote for the MVPs and Cy Youngs will have its strenghths, weaknesses and biases. The system right now is imperfect especially since many major newspapers don't allow their reporters to vote. Maybe it should be left to the fans??

such ugliness on the part of yankee fans is too typical of people who place a higher value on sports than it deserves. baseball is the greatest spectator sport there is! but it's not so important, as to warrant such a strong and vicious backlash when someone has a differing opinion.

Not only did "HE" (joe cowley) put Jeter 6th on the ballot, how about the fact he put ARod 8th. If that doesn't tell you something about this guys idea of MVP. Defend if all you want, players, coaches and past winners should vote on the awards, PERIOD....

For all of those who think there's an anti-NY bias, could it be possible that you have a pro-NY bias??? How many of you watched Jermaine Dye everyday? Anyone have an idea of how he performed against the Twins and Tigers? Is it possible that he's every bit the leader that Jeter is? There are people here who scream about Jeter getting less than second place votes...Can we assume that those who voted Morneau fourth were anti-Minnesota???

no team with choke-rod on it will ever win a world series . i watched every yankee game last year and keep track of joke-rods stats myself he hit for the year average 271 with 28 homers and 89 rbi what i want to know is who is keeping track of stats during the season and how much is he paying to keep his his numbers up?

Nice job Yankees fans... once again, you've let your true colors show. While you have crowned yourselves "The greatest fans in all of Baseball", the rest of the world just shakes its head and turns away in disgust.
The Yankees are a proud and storied franchise, but you fans are slugs and deserve the wrath of the baseball world. To wish the return of cancer, or a shortened life on a voter because your player didn't get the award YOU believe he deserved, you should be ashamed. Be proud... you are truly legends in your own minds. |

"Our expertise produces the best results. I think we would do a disservice by not voting ..."
Exactly the hubris that disproves his own point. "Best results" as measured by whom? |
||||
|
How in the world could any sports writer come up with any name other than Derek Jeter for AL MVP? The spirit of the award is tainted by those that choose to disrespect the NY Yankees. Derek Jeter is the AL MVP! The fans do not need the writers to validate that! As a matter of fact, the writers shouldn't have a say at all.

My post incorrectly lists where I live. It should read Lindenhurst

Baseball writers seem to think Baseball exisits to give them a job and that the fans are incidental to the game. I could care less whether McGwire makes the Hall. I do care that after ignoring steroids for a decade or more, baseball writers have suddenly decided that steroids nullify an athlete's career.
Here is a suggestion for the HOF writers: before they vote their HOF ballot, look up the definition of hypocrisy. |

the boston globe (through the new york times) owns a piece of the red sox - if any paper should be concerned about a perception of conflict it is the globe - which makes joe sullivan's comment all the more shocking
