The newest member of the Danbury Fire Department is a real heavyweight. But at 35 feet long, 9.5 feet tall, and weighing more than 23 tons, the heavy-duty rescue truck that was put into service this week fills ...

I don't understand your issue, isn't the DPD getting a brand new station? I've seen a few new cruisers? what else do they need? Firefighters need the necessary equiptment to handle Danbury's growing needs. They finally got it.

Alex-KMA Germantown had a Hurst tool before the DFD knew what it was. Also they have had a set of rescue airbags for about 20 years Only airbags that DFD have are in the office wearing white shirts

It's wonderful that Germantown has a set of tools. But aren't the city's resident better served by having these tools with a company that knows how to use them. When was the last time 10's cut a car that wasn't at the fire school.

It is ggood that this equiptment is on a piece, that when it is called, it will get an immediate response.

As I have said before, it takes time for the volunteers in Danbury to respond, if they respond at all. If someone is trapped, there is NO TIME TO WAIT.

Ok, how many volunteer fire stations have a "Volunteers Wanted" sign on their buildings...MOST OF THEM!!!You can not count on the volunteer fire companies in Danbury to respond IMMEDIATELY in a life threatening situation, unless it is a drill night or meeting night. A RESCUE company response is needed immediately and the trapped person does to have time to wait.

Sir (Falconetti) you just have no idea what you are talking about!!!

CONGRATS!!!! to DFD for finally getting a Rescue truck. Unfortunitly the cities plan is to run it like a volunteer company and call it everything but what it is to try get around manning it.

While this rig is a huge step forward for Danbury resource wise, they don't have a dedicated "Rescue Company". The truck is stationed at Engine 23's Melody/Halas station. If needed, then 23's crew responds with it. If 23 is already tied up, they have to return to get it, or another Engine has to go get it.

And I bet it will still get there sooner than a volunteer rescue vehicle.

The important part is that it is here and available as a resource we can use. We can work on getting the manpower to staff it later. There is no way the city would've funded the purchase of the rig, equipment, and 16 new firefighters to staff it in one shot. This way the Feds buy the rig, the city pays the personel {eventually}.

If you beleive that the City is going to "eventually" staff a Rescue Company in Danbury You probably believe in Santa Claus and Easter Bunny too. City is more than happy to allow DFD to run it as a "volly" company, having a drive to station to pick apparatus up.

I don't understand how you think it will be run as a "volly company". Please don't tell me you think that there will be a volly company assigned to pick it up and deliver to scene. The way it is slated now, unless 23's is 1st or 2nd due to a structure fire, they will respond as a squad 4th due, and to all tech rescue or extrication assignments. If they are out of position or responding with a pump, the 4th due company will respond with the squad.

Also things are happening with the city's growth where getting more manning isn't so far out of the picture. 8 positions will be lost within a year to civilanized dispatch station at the new PD. The FD could negotiate those spots to be kept as a two-man rescue company. There are possibilities for the future.

Ah the joy of being so naive, I hear that the FD is negotitiating to have the Tooth Fairy leave you a present under your pillow too, make sure you look for it.What she might leave might be brown and smelly, but between two slices of bread will taste exactly the same.Which is the same thing the FD is asking you to do now , with the way the Rescue is being run.
