Looking at the covenants (at least one of which seems to be mising from the article), there isn't anything illegal or immoral, or even controversial, about the actions the churh may be about to take. The reasons people migrate are many and the US, and that means its citizens, share in many of the factors, like support for administrations that destabilise local economies...

In any event, good for the churh. I'm with Ms. Marciano on this one. They can do what they want and God bless them.

LEGAL immigrants are not generally deported, so it seems to me that this particular church is aiding a criminal enterprise.

What we need to do is STOP allowing anyone born here under any circumstances to automatically become a citizen, it is being abused horribly. The amendment allowing it was NOT written to support people here illegally, as it's author has clearly stated.

Looking at the churches covenents is irrelevent to the law.

If these churches want to offer sanctuary aiding and abetting illegals, they should be stripped of their tax exempt status. This woman with 6 kids knew she and her husband were illegals, but that didn't stop them from producing children. If these churches want to take this type of action, I hope the parishioners are willing to pay all expenses for the remaining 7. Food, clothing, housing, utilities, legal bills, etc. I'm sick and tired of illegals praying upon churches for protection against deportation. She needs to be deported and take her 6 kids with her. They are not being held hostage!

I say let all the immigrants stay in the AMERICAN CONTINENT, wherever they please, whether it be Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, United States, or Canada.

Children born to illegal aliens are NOT USA citizens by birth! The 14th Amendment has been abused enough! If the parents have to be deported, the children can go with them. The pro-illegal alien lobby is always decrying about the families being separated--that is one big lie! Most children go back with the parents.

What I really resent is the sense of "entitlement" these illegals have. They have NO, I repeat, NO rights in this country, except to be treated in a humane way in court and in detention while being deported.

As gas reaches $4 per gallon, wheat prices tripling, food riots sprouting up globally and unemployment rising and municipalities going bankrupt, we cannot afford to take care of our own people let alone criminals sneaking into this country for a free ride which they refer to as "a better life".

However, entering the worst recession in generations isn't reason enough to deny any type of sanctuary to illegal aliens. There is also the rule of law, which in my opinion, is the most important reason. One set of laws for all of the people with no one above the law. That means illegal aliens are not above the law nor the churches who choose to become political on the issue.

Marciano is right, this is America. The churches are free to do what they want (within the law), just like we are free to petition local, state and federal governments to reverse their tax exempt status. We are also free to criticize the churches blatant political activism and to rightly point out if and when they are breaking the laws in the same manner in which the people they advocate for do.

In closing, why don't churches advocate for those citizens killed by illegal aliens or the those who have had to close businesses or lost jobs or had their wages suppressed due to cheap and illegal labor? Why don't they advocate for the American children who are having their educational and healthcare resources stolen? These poor American children who are having their futures compromised because they are dumbed down while non English speaking students, who don't belong here, catch up?

I guess there are differing degrees to being God's children. The American people evidently, in the church's and John McCain's eyes, are the lesser of God's children. Talk about hypocrisy.

First of all the immigration laws are not broken - they need to be enforced. The illegals and their "representatives" want the laws changed to suit them. Secondly FEDERAL LAW supercedes all laws - even church law. These people who cry about being separated from the American born children should have considered the consequences of their actions BEFORE they had children - the children will live with the consequences of the decisions made by their parents - DO NOT blame America - it is the parents actions period. We all live with the consequences of our parents and our own actions. The church in it actions of giving sanctuary is breaking yet more laws. The American People do not want and will never welcome ILLEGAL ALIENS into the country that they have worked and fought for so that ILLEGALS can just steal into this country and make DEMANDS.

Has anyone else noticed that of all the illegal aliens mentioned in this article, not one complained about the process of becoming a legal citizen? Most likely, none of them are attempting to become citizens. If you are so worried about being deported or being seperated from your children...then START THE LEGAL PROCESS!!!!

If you cannot respect the sovereignty of the United States of America, why would anyone respect the sovereignty of your nation?

The Constitution is not a suicide pact, and The 14th Amendment was not written to convey citizenship on the children of illegal aliens. The first sentence of the 14th Amendment says:
All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.
Advocates of illegal immigrants read this as:
All persons born or naturalized in the United States are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.
Obviously, the parents of anchor babies are subject to the jurisdiction of a foreign government, and they are only subject to U.S. immigration law because of their illegal presence in this country. The anchor baby maintains the same status as his parents, and is not automatically a citizen of the U.S. Citizenship for anchor babies was not the intent of the 14th Amendment.
