I'm a LEGAL immigrant. I work hard all my life, pay my taxes dutifully and honestly, and don't believe in breaking any laws and taking advantages of the less fortunate who are honest and hardworking. My family waited for years for the U.S. immigration quota that allowed us to immigrate with the promise that we would be self-sufficient when we reached the U.S. soil without having the need to have the U.S. taxpayers to pay for anything. This includes housing, food, health care, education, and any social services. I am a naturalized U.S. citizen and welcome everyone who comes here LEGALLY. WHY SHOULD I AND EVERYONE WHO are law-abiding legal residents living in Arlington county pay for the illegals? Why in the world we want to encourage ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS to come and live here? ILLEGAL means breaking the laws. Is it really right and fair to all of us who came here legally? Use some common sense, folks. ILLEGALS are draining our tax dollars. Both the county and the Commonwealth are aleady in financial crises. Our schools already are short of money in everything: not enough classrooms, teachers, school bus drivers, and extended day staff; buildings need repair and upgrade; not enough money to have foreign language courses, etc. We should and need to spend money in helping and improving English-speaking students in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, computer skills, and others. Rather oddly, we spend money in encouraging both the illegals (and legals) to learn Spanish, and no incentive for Spanish speaking illegals to learn English. Does this make any logical sense?

this is the problem, folks. Officials fear, that illegals wont be counted? Isnt that sweet of them? How about not worrying about them other then if the ICE can count them as they are attested and deported?

Money and funding, that's all it boils down to...these officials need to worry about the fact that their schools are being turned into free daycare centers for illegals' children. They need to worry that the educational growth of our children is being stunted by the illegal influx in our classrooms. Too much money is being funneled into ELL programs, and the end result of this excessive amount of money being spent is abysmal. Illegal children do not care much about education, because their parents don't stress the importance at home.

bottomline, why should americans support the illegals? americans taxpayers dollars should go towards assisting americans in need - FIRST AND FOREMOST!!!

if the illegals need help, they should go back home for it.

The problem is the kids are in the schools. If they do not get counted in the census then as long as we have to educate them by federal law, the schools cannot plan for the future in regards to data for say five years out.

Projected school funding is based in part on census data. Therefore, by not responding to census forms, they are further hurting legal resident children by causing budget shortfalls.

It is a Catch 22 when dealing with education. We get hurt because we have to educate illegals and then we get hurt when we do census and the illegals assume it can be used to track them down so do not reply. Either way the students of legal residents suffer.

Well, first off, the law needs to be changed in regards to the Census Bureau. Instead of reading "people", it should read: "citizens/legal residences".

Second off, I agree with everyone here that these illegals, these **** with their "anchor babies" are costing us taxpayers at an alarming rate. But the liberals are too worried about Al Gore's Hippocritical belief that Global Warming is around the corner.

To that point, I also say the law needs to be changed to reflect that these "anchor babies" are NOT US CITIZENS. The birthright citizenship act for aliens needs to end (good point Al G).

Please go to www.grassroots.org to petition our elected officials that we are sick and tired of illegals running rampant in this country.

The law, Tiltle 13, Section 141, 193, and 221 of the US Code authorizing the American Community Survey, also provides that your answers are confidential. No one except Cenusus Bureau employees may see your completed form and they can be fined and/or imprisoned for any disclosure of your answers.
The same law that provides the confidentiality of your answers requires that you provide the information of your answers requires that you provide the information asked in the survey to the best of your knowledge.

Who is going to arrest and charge these illegal immigrants for not providing the required US census information to the US government that is required by law? Or are legal immigrants and American citizens the only ones who have to obey the US Census law?

Again why are illegal immigrants permitted to evade US immigrantion laws, not file taxes to IRS, commit indentity theft, and now not being forced to fill out a census (a very long detailed personal census form) to the US government?

Come on US Rep.Jim Moran start rounding up those known illegal immigrants who are not providing information to the US Census Bureau which is required by law. Oversight responsibilty from our elected US offcials requires action.
In fact learn from our southern neighbors. Brazil declared Portuguese as the official language so should the USA declare English as ours. Mexico deports more illegal immigrants than the US and has far tougher immigrantion laws that amount to a one way path for illegal immgirants into the US. Additionally foreigners can not own and purchase land in Mexico what so ever.

There are two problems.(1) Their country of origin doesn't want them back.(2) Their country of origin wouldn't pay us anything. They're used to wire-trans money from the U.S. back home.......

The last census, I received a notice at my second property address that I own. I cannot be counted twice I thought, so I didn't respond to the second notice on my door. Well, I then had a visit when I was home. The census taker told me, "It's a violation of Federal Law. You have to give me your information." I explained that I own more than one property. One is a weekend address at the lake. The census taker told me to expect a visit by a U.S. Marshall! I called the local number as to the census, explaining that I am only 1, not 2 people and what the census taker had told me. If I a U.S. citizen can be threatened and expect a visit from the U.S. Marshall's office, so can illegals. I didn't receive a U.S. Marshall visit, as the local office corrected the situation. Talk about harrassment!

We need to challenge the interpretation of the 14th amendment. The Supreme Court could end the anchor baby-chain migration scourge with a single ruling.

Exactly made a call to US Census and found out that one would indeed be in a whole alot of greif if one refused to provide info required. Became fearful of exposure of US Census info when reading about Italy providing Italian's tax info on the web. but was assured that info would not fall into the wrong hands...and US Census would be fined. Remember tortes against the government take at least ten years to resolve.

Are the known illegal immigrants going to not only evade US immigrantion law but also US Census law?
