From the accounts I've heard, anyone in the backseat of that van would not have survived even with a seatbelt. Involuntary manslaughter??Seems to me he voluntarily got in the truck. When you're blackout drunk, its pretty hard to do things voluntarily.

We don't know what his BAC was, so we don't know just how drunk he was.

Heart broken

I'm a family member of the little boy lost here. Our family is deeply saddened by this loss. Our hearts are so broken that words can not define our pain. This is tragedy for all involved and I hope that with the arrest, justice will prevail. I'm angry that it took a life - such a young, precious, innocent life for this young man to learn a lesson. Joshua will be missed and it will take years to get over this. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

You criminal coddlers think people should be allowed to drive as recklessly as they wish and if they kill someone let them off with a fine because they weren't actually trying to kill anyone. No wonder we have 110 highway murders every DAY in america

We need a law that says anyone found at fault in a fatal crash must serve a minimum of 10 years. If we did that people wouldn't drive drunk. Or speed or drive while on a cell. Stop coddling these killers.

They will just get out and speed again. They deserve life!!! You talk tough but aren't willing to go the extra mile. And those cell phone people, yuck, they should get at least 10 for pre-meditated vehicular manslaughter.

Maybe the boy shouldn't have been in the car?

You're known by the company you keep, and you're showing your immaturity. 22 years old is more than old enough to know the laws especially when it's reported this is his second DUI. I hope this never happens to you if you have children. Yes, I do feel for both families, but not for the drunk driver. Alcohol and cars combine to make a lethal weapon.

Drunks are the cause of around 41% of all traffic fatalities in the USA. This is no surprise to me. A drunk kills someone every 30 minutes on average.

As a friend of Aaron's, I want to tell you all how devestated we are for the tragic loss this family is suffering through. We all wish that we had been able to help Aaron make a smarter decision. If someone you love has a drinking problem, seek help for them. If not for them, for the innocent drivers on the road who may fall into their path of destruction.
We're all very angry and confused.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the little boy.

Seat belts do save lives but the blame is still all on the drunk driver. You can make a mistake (DUI) once but twice or more and it's not mistake anymore. Yeah the kid should have been wearing a seat belt but that doesn't change the fact that some idiot drunk crashed into the van that he was riding in. The drunk driver put himself in the situation by drinking and driving end of story.

Let me tell you Justin. I am not an idiot. The fact remains that your friend needed help when he went to get into his car to begin with. Where were you then? I realize it was an accident and that the boy should have had a seatbelt on, but the fact remains that your friend was DRUNK and hit them. He deserves jail time. THAT IS THE LAW!!!! Maybe you think that driving drunk is OK, but IT IS THE LAW NOT TO. You cannot justify what has happened here by saying it is the boys parents fault. I hope you take it as a lesson and help your friend get through this.

I wish the friends of Aaron's would also stop making excuses for him. I am ALSO a friend of Aaron's, and I know right now that he's not making excuses for his actions.
Yes he fell asleep at the wheel, and yes he wasn't obliterated. BUT, he was at the legal limit, he was exhausted because he had been drinking the night before and didn't sleep more than an hour or two. None of his friends thought he would get up at 5 in the morning and leave.
His family is devestated. A little boy lost his life. And the child's family is suffering.
Fighting over whether or not the little boy should have been wearing a seatbelt is a mute point.
He wasn't wearing a seatbelt, and he had to pay for Aaron's actions.
That in and of itself is wrong.
