I do not understand why the parents would even have guns in the house along with amo if their child has a conditon that could impair is judgement like that.
This could have been avoided. It does not matter if the guns were locked up or not. If he had a child with issues like that it is sad to see he put his gun collection first over safety.

He's only 16 and does not have the mind of an adult. I assume they have him in prison with the adults also. There has been much controversy in the news lately on this subject and the problems with trying kids as adults, yet here we go again.
He should be treated and tried as the juvenile that he is. |

The very 1st post is by an anti-gunner. Who would have thought?
If he had stolen their car and tried to run those boys down, I bet money you would not have posted; [I do not understand why the parents would even have cars in the garage along with keys if their child has a conditon that could impair his judgement like that.] Can you say "AGENDA", boys & girls? |

Read the report in the Norwich Bulletin. It is far more accurate than any I have read elsewhere.

Yea sure! If he had killed some of the kids and one was yours you wouldn't think that way. |

AGENDA ? How about answering why in the world would someone keep an AK-47 in the house? This parent works for the church and has an arsenal in his house?? What's wrong with this picture. The parent should be jailed also. |

In civilian dress it is just a semi automatic rifle. Just looks mean. Joan is right. Yes, AGENDA. |

I want to know why there was a loaded weapon in the house? Everyone I know who own weapons keep the guns and ammo locked up in two different locations.

They did. You really would benefit from reading the Norwich Bulletin account. The one here is incomplete and not factual. |

First off, I am not anti-Gun at all.
I know and have heard all the arguments about it the gun does not do the killing, the people do. In this particular case his parents were involved in the church, they took in troubled youth and they knew their son was having issues so why not remove the collection until they figure out their child's issues. It would have been a simple precaution that may have prevented this. Help could and should have been provided way before this. From above the child has been planning and alot of people miss the signs so there is more than just the parents to be pointing fingers at. |

I live in VA and I have 2 autistic children. What parent in their right mind would have a gun collection in a house with children with this condition. My youngest son has Asperger's Syndrome too. He is 6. People with Asperger's have a strong emotional presence, I guess you'd say. Anything and I mean ANYTHING can set them off into an emotional roller coaster. Once they are in that roller coaster seat, strap on your seat belts, they have complete melt downs. There is nothing you can do but ride it out. His mental state will MOST DEFINITELY come into play when it comes to trial. This judge should be be taken out in the back yard and be beat down for trying this kid as an adult!!

I agree, he needs help not jail.He was probably reaching out for the longest time waiting for someone to notice and boy now everyone notices.
I work with adults that have autism and it is as you described. An emotional roller coaster. |

No...he needs jail...or needs to be institutionalized. He is clearly a danger to society and needs to be put away before something bad actually happens...
The father needs to be sent to jail too...he is clearly acting in a reckless manner! |

Obviously, you have no idea what Autism is and are ignorant to the impairment and devastation that a disease like this causes not just to the individual but to the entire family. While his father should not have had guns in the house, that's true. Locking this kid up is only going to make his mental state a whole lot worse than what it is now. I hope his parents are standing up for him. It can be a very lonely time for a person with his condition. They actually aired his story on my local news in VA. MY wife sat down and cried because she knows his condition more than likely does not recognize the seriousness of the consequences of his actions. I wish this case was in VA I would hire my attorney to represent this kid. Families with Autism have to stick together. I sympathize with his family, and I pray these silly charges get dropped to misdemeanor in juvenile court, if not thrown out completely.

First of all, have you ever though about the people at the basketball court? Maybe they were trying to provoke a fight or spewing insulting comments to the boy. One time, I remember, people from the court ran to my house and started kicking the door and knocking down the security signs. I came out once, shouting at them to stop. I came out twice, threatening that I would call the cops. They came a third time. Every time I came out, they would run like cowards and come back to commit petty vandalism. The fourth time that they came, my water hose was nearly damaged and my door banging with kicks. I had had enough. I took out my pellet rifle and came outside. I fired a warning shot and told the vandalists to leave. They ran, but they stopped at the court, shouting threats and cursing loudly. When they attempted to come closer, I fired a shot in their general direction. A single shot, that's it. It hit a tall vandalist in the chest and utterly surprised him. The thing is, the group of vandalists left the court. So you see, sometimes the most effective solution to neighborhood crime is a decisive strike. Not a wild act of rage with bullets flying, but rather a single shot fired from a pellet rifle. The shot that ran around the street.
