Dr. Petit's Letter - In Memoriam

One year I have missed your smiles, voices, touch, and smell. In the darkness, it seems impossible to go on, but there is hope during the day.

I draw upon your strength, faith, and will to survive the worst tragedy that I could ever imagine on a family. My prayers are forever with you and your loved ones. To me your love, forgiveness and compassion are unmatched. In many ways you and your family have made this world better. Your amazing courage makes a difference. Thankyou for you.

Sincerely,
Linda

Dear Dr. Petit,
Not a day has gone by since your tragedy that I don't think about you and your family. You and I don't even know each other but I feel that I know you in some unfamiliar way. I can't even imagine the pain that you have endured, and for that I know that you are truly an amazing person. I have shed so many tears and then I look to see how unbelievably you are enduring the happenings of the past year. Because of this, I know that your Wife and your Daughters are so proud of you as you are of them. I believe that they are with you all of the time. There aren't even words to express my sympathy. Please know that you and your family are always in my thoughts and prayers and your 3 girls will be with you always and forever.

It brought tears to my eyes. I cannot fathom enduring the pain and emptiness that I can only imagine he has suffered in the past year. I would be lost without my daughter and husband, and don't know if I could ever be as strong as Dr. Petit. I remember the shock the whole state was in last year. I cried for him and his family, and will never understand what motivates these people. Our thoughts are with you.

Dr. Petit,
May your heart receive all the tender loving care and respect that so many hundreds of thousands of us feel for and with you. I am in California and have followed your story and watch in awe at the dignity and grace you have been able to muster. Clearly your family was a rare example of goodness in this world. As deep as this loss is, may the compassion that is even greater come fill your heart and soul.
