This must mean you can close the food bank now, right? It's not a success until no one needs your services. But we all know that's never going to happen because there will always be people looking for handouts.

but to answer you question, cut back entitlement spending and perhaps a US American would.
Oh, I know what you mean...an Amerian would take those jobs if there were not so much entitlement money. Dude.....you are tripping. All the farmers that have been interviewed in Georgia since the prediction that this year's crop production will be down 40% say that no one has the skills to pick the crops without damaging the fruit/vegs. at a fast enough rate to get the crop in. They also cannot stand the 100 degree weather, high humidity for 10 hours at a time. They also have to be able to pick up 50-100 pound crates and lift them on a truck. Newcomers are just not capable. Could you do it? I certainly couldn't.

"People looking for handouts" is a snarky term, condescending to say the least. How about "People will always be hungry". You better thank your lucky stars you will never be hungry.

Rome wasn't built in a day. Guest workers have the skills because it is what they do. No matter how much education and no matter how much training that you receive, nothing will prepare you and make you efficient as experience. That's not to say that the path to hell isn't paved with good intention. We inadvertently created a system that does not incentivize some to work. It's not that they can't, it's that they won't. With labor laws, we also made it very expensive, so Big Ag relies on guest workers, legal and illegal migrants to do that labor, because they're not eligible to receive welfare benefits like ebt (which is run by the dept of Ag, and if you look at it, it's a Big Ag subsidy as well.)

I'm in the rare position of being able to say that I've seen both sides of the tracks. I'm not just talking about "slumming it while I was a starving student," either, but I don't want to get too personal. You're asking me if I could. If I had to I would give it my all. I'm not above any job, well; except maybe homosexual prostitution. I'd defiantly be healthier and in better shape, but it would whoop my arse, too.

How about, there will always be hungry people? There are many people that don't know that they can better themselves. The answer lays between your position and C'ville Patriot's position.

The problem is that we're full of generalizations. C'ville Patriot sees one person abusing the system and declares that all persons are abusing the system; on the other hand, there are those that see one person being helped by the system and assume that all are being helped by the system.

There are those that are always looking for handouts, and there are those that take advantage of good intention, but on the otherhand, there are those that do need the help, and there are those that take advantage (as intended) of the opportunities given to them by good intentioned people. Some even become successful and in return help those from where they came from.
