The media is portraying Kyle Cantz to be a monster and that is the furthest thing from the truth. Kyle has coached my son for several years and he has always been a very positive and encouraging coach. Kyle's actions during Saturday's scrimage (not game) were totally out of character. This situation is being blown way out of proportion and it is unbelievable the media attention it has gotten.
BTW the story above has several flaws: 1.) The boys father didn't watch from the sidelines as the incident unfolded - he didn't even see it happen. He had to be told about the incident at which point he approached Kyle. 2.) It was a scrimmage, not a game. 3.) The boy had repeatedly face masked the opposing team's players. 4.) Kyle did not throw the boy to the ground or knock him to the ground - he grabbed his face masked and yelled at him. 5.) Kyle said "If you ever do that again, I will break your neck." The F*** word was not used. Doesn't the media have some real news to report? |

OK, let's get this straight. Perhaps NORMALLY this guy is a great coach, we can even give him the benefit of that doubt. HOWEVER, he CROSSED THE LINE the minute he grabbed the kid's mask and threatened him! CASE CLOSED. There are, nor should there be ANY "do overs" when it comes to anger management issues when adults are working with kid's. If the kid had been repeatedly doing something wrong, the coach should have pulled him much earlier. You are only as sane as your last call. This guys last call was to take an 8 year old by the face mask and threaten to kill him (break his neck, same thing). His coaching days need to be over with, now. It should also be mandated he get some professional, psychiatric help. |

I think 'organized sports' is out of control for kids. Too much pressure at a young age from coaches and parents to participate and 'win win win'...besides I question how safe are contacts sports for kids whose bodies are not fully grown?
I know generations of players are out there, but it just seems so intense anymore. |

Nice teaching approach. teach the kid NOT to grab facemasks, by GRABBING HIS facemask. Regardless of how well he has coached in the past, someone who chooses this teaching method should not be teaching children. How about sitting the kid becuase he kept grabbing a facemask??? You must be the same person that says, he was such a nice father and husband, even though he murdered his wife. |

So it's ok to threaten to break an eight year olds neck as long as you don't use the "F" word? Is that what you are saying? For the love of God the kid is eight. No it's not right the kid is pulling other kids face masks...maybe bench him, but not threaten him. |

The kid played for the other team so the coach should have approached the refs if there were any since it was a scrimmage game if not then he should have confronted the other teams coach. I think both the kid and the coach are to blame in this situation and this kid should be taught not to grab face masks and the coach should be reprimanded for his actions. |

I'm surprised the little criminal-in-the-making even knows who his daddy is.

Its football for goodness sakes. Its a violent sport and people get yelled at regularly. If this happened at the college level no one would even think twice about it. This is why these sports should not be played until the kids get much older. I think 8 is way too young to get them involved in contact sports. Unless of course this is pretraining for life in the hood.

how many posters here have served on a real football team?
coaches in football are aggressive people. if your kid is cut out for it he can handle a coach who wiggles his helmet to get his attention while he is padded better than our troops in iraq. football isnt ballet and the coaches are a little rough. if your kid cant handle it, get him a tutu! do you think any nfl player got hugs from his coach and coddling little international coffee chats? |

Some observations from the Jersey Pines side -
The kid and his father are good people. Atco Lions and Jersey Pines are old rivals, and their games are HEATED on all levels. When your kids play football at this young age, you see the very fine line between toughening them up and overzealous coaches. It's a hard thing to watch from the sidelines. The Lions coach was over the line, if for nothing else than the threat. BTW - the refs have always been hard on the Wildcats, so it's pure BS that Isiah was CONTINUALLY facemasking.... |

you know this is going to ruin all american football for the real kids. We're going to end up with a bunch of ballerina's getting hugs on the field. If your kid cant play fair and/or take discipline, let him become an interior decorator. Football is (typically) for heterosexuals and kids who can hang. If your kid (gay or not) is a pantiwaist cheater crybaby, we dont want him.
You're lucky the parents of the kid he facemasked didnt grab him! Some of those yuppie-soccer-moms are nutso! |

Nope, that's not going to happen. A big juicy lawsuit will be filled against a school by parents of an American Panzy kid and after the judgement is awarded, other schools will see the risk and move away from football as scholastic activity. |

oh well that would be worse.
i think. no football or pansy-i-fied football. i think if it was removed, privately funded startup leagues would spring up. I was upset around here when they came up with rough touch football. i said,, whats this for drunken fat guys who cant hit a softball? go hard, or go home! |

You're an idiot. Because he didn't say the "F" word, it's ok to threaten to break his neck? You can actually justify this? He had absolutely no business touching that child, he obviously has no control over his actions. If he had a problem with this boy, and he was a man, he should have gone to the coach of the Winslow team. Yes, I was there. I heard him yelling at the players. He's a jacky and I hope the boy's parents sue the **** out of him. I hope he goes to jail and gets his behind beat and sees what it's like to be abused by someone bigger than you. Ha, ha, ha - I will have a real problem if I see my son's team playing yours this year. It's parents like you that allow idiots like him to coach! |
||||
You're obviously another Atco fan. I'm very interested to see all these mature comments. Because of you and others in support of this jacky, I hope never to see your team near our field. |

You post comments with name-calling? Very mature on your part. Did you even bother to read the entire post or just what you wanted? I did not attempt to justify Kyle's actions - I was just showing that there is slightly more to the story than was being reported. I believe people make mistakes (sometimes huge ones), but that doesn't make them a terrible person. Based on your comments, you are obviously an ignorant person. |
