It's only a Saturday, but the traffic problems caused by a sinkhole in northwest Albuquerque have crews working hard to make repairs.

I was very disappointed with this, I listened to the local radio stations the entire time I was coming home from CNM main campus and not one station said what was going on regarding Paseo's closure. It took me 90 mintues to get home compared to the usual 30 minutes.

Sounds like Wendy and her demented boyfriend Wendall have come out of the closet. It's only 1 road and it's only closed until Monday afternoon!! Dictator Marti only cares about the red light camera money so he will be a no show on Paseo. My bet is Dictator Marti couldn't get his fanny elected dog catcher nowadays. Peace love and the American way has been inconvienced by faulty pipes. GET OVER IT!!!!

Why the snottiness from those on the east side?(and no, I didn't see any smilies, so I don't think you're joking)

I live over here because my wife's job requires us to. Trust me, Gidget, if we could, we'd move to the east side where we weren't making your life miserable. Those darned employers and their distance rules...

I'll be glad to see Paseo back open, though. We usually use Alameda and had no idea why it was so jammed Saturday, until we were on our way to dinner Saturday night and saw westbound Paseo was closed.

Why? Simple, because the unabated sprawl, strip malls and track homes that comprise albuquerque are underscored and increased exponentially by the westside. I invested a lot of time and equity recently in recruiting a candidate from out of state only to have him bail out after seeing the housing and educational alternatives here in albuquerque; his words to me after riding with the realtor that took him to the west side- "you've got to be kidding" not that the east side is all that much better, High Desert is just a bunch of over priced track homes built in a flood plain. Portions of the north valley, corrales and the high foothills and la cueva canyon are about the only nice places to live in the whole county.

If Montano had more lanes, that could've helped. Oh, but it doesn't.

Part of that I can agree to. One reason we didn't buy in NW Albuquerque is because of the whole tract home thing. We bought down behind Corrales Heights and Corrales proper, because it's older, has character and doesn't have the look you're referring to. We built on the edge of the west mesa, directly overlooking Corrales. It's actually quite beautiful over here.

That said, people have to live somewhere and not everyone can afford a custom home with a view. The sprawled-out areas cater more to those who want a low mortgage and lots of bedrooms - things we weren't looking for.

I do get a little sick of people acting like the west mesa is all sprawl, though. There are some nice older homes and newer custom homes over here - you just have to know where to look.

This happens about 800 times a day in the United States. Usually from rusty pipe that is too thin .. but you almost never see that in news articles. The point is they should be replaced with new plastic pipe that will never rust.

...and not a good alternate route in the bunch. This city needs to wake up and address the problems with east-west traffic flow. It will only get worse in the years to come.

What we NEED is for Rio Rancho to have direct access to I-25. The 3rd or 4th largest city in the state and not a single interstate exit! Maybe we can tunnel under Corralles.

Tramway and Osuna are the roads that naturally should've gone over the river to the westside. Osuna is as wide as a football field but then suddenly narrows at 2nd street and comes to a screeching halt at 4th; Tramway cleverly turn into 4th street. Notice something here? I'm guessing that many, many years ago the special interest groups in Corrales and Los Ranchos squelched any silly talk of traffic through the Bosque to the other side of town. Selfish and short-sighted.

Perhaps the Sandia reservation will allow a road in the future if enough money is thrown at them. The truth is that Alameda, Paseo and Montano are all horribly designed roads. Alameda was a nice road 20 years ago but it's choked to capacity; most of the westside traffic funnels to Paseo and Paseo has a) a disfunctional exit at 2nd b) a horrible intersection at Jefferson and c) antiquated access to I-25. Other than that, it's great. Montano is okay until you hit that mess around 4th-2nd-Edith and then all bets are off. For a city of this size with booming growth on its west side to have only three ways across the river between Bernalillo and I-40 is a travesty. KOB-TV should find out what, if anything, officials are planning to do about this in the near future.

That's the problem- there's no separation between track developments as far as the eye can see and the occasional home on 1+ acres. It's all one bailiwick. I agree that everyone needs to live somewhere but no one wants going to buy a 500k + home amidst cookie cutter sprawl and strip malls - not that is in their right mind anyway.
