Much Aloha to all that donated. To have a team work so hard to make it the State Tournament is awesome. Good Luck Pahoa

It just goes to show that the people of the aloha state will pull through to help each other no matter what island we come from... good luck to pahoa and the rest of the state tournament participants. I lived on the mainland for a few years and NO WHERE is there ALOHA for the people (even if they are transplants) then we have here!

Just realized that Punahou wins more state titles in any given year than most public schools have ever won in their individual histories. Perhaps an endowment from Punahou should be created to offset the disparity.

Pahoa's plight brings to light the annual burden of travel expenses all outer island participants face in getting to states.
I'm glad Amemiya had the fortitude to stagger tourneys through out the state.

When teams make the states, do they get discounts on airfare and hotel rooms negotiated by the HHSAA? If not, why?

oooh here's a thought....how about the tourneys rotate to each island? then at least big island kids won't have to crack the piggybank every darn year, also maui kids, also molokai kids, also kauai kids, also lanai kids. spread da aloha!!

Flying and lodging for State tournament teams should be funded by HHSAA. How can you have a state tourney and leave someone at home. HHSAA should also even the playing field ensuring that every visiting team has decent and equal living conditions. A rich school shouldn't be staying in the Sheraton while a poor school is camping out in someone's gym. Hawaii is in a unique situation, but you can't punish the kids who have worked so hard to get to state.

Right on, deutscher titalani, HHSAA or the sporting body responsible for the tourney ought to be looking into rotating the site each year. Yes, why not Kauai, Maui, Hawaii, or even the smaller islands. Provide a level playing field so that the home team (of that island) can benefit from hometown support of their loyal fans and also an opportunity to boost its much needed local economy. Another option could see the tourney rotate every other year between Honolulu and the other islands. However, the above alternatives can only happen if each of those islands are equiped with the infrastructure to handle such a tourney. May sound far reaching but with a bit of planning, perhaps the poor outer island people may not feel the sting.
