I can fully appreciate this measure was motivated by good and well meaning intentions. That doe not excuse or even dampen the fact these people are undocumented and illegal. As such, they are non-citizens being afforded state resources and considerations designed to benefit resident-citizens only.
It seems as though our legislature is willing to turn a blind eye and operate outside the law. This is a poor and conflicting signal. It is also wrong and equally foreign to the ethical understanding of the rule of law.
Awesome point. Perhaps the reason the people who approve this bill are the same people with poor ethics and who normally deal with illegal agenda's to get ahead in there career.

Are these kids legal citizens? Have they registered for selective service? If not then laws should be made to remove them. The article read as follows: "The in-state tuition rate for a year at Southern Connecticut State University, for example, is $6,736 for residents who commute, while the out-of-state rate is $15,456." That is over $8,000 per year. I have a better idea. That $8,000 could be used to find the illegals and buy a one way plane ticket back to their country of origin.

Thank you for your no nonsense take on the matter.

It is incredible that the state senate even considered such legislation let alone passed it.

The inmates have taken over the asylum and what we are witnessing is the steady decline of the greatest country known to mankind.

We know what the problem is but none of our elected representatives have the courage to address it.

It appears anything goes for this session of the general assembly.

Next steps: be sure to vote, and let's throw all liberal, secular progessive politicians (Democrat or Republican - including that Rell creature) out of office, and take this state & country back. And refuse to hire, or live next to, illegal immigrants. Period.

How much more to I have to give to the Connecticut Political Correctness Movement? I am taxed to death, gas and electric are reaching unaffordable levels, my income has increased little in the last few years, good jobs are going to growth states, housing is unaffordable to any average citizen, rampant unintelligent growth and sprawl. The people running this state think that we as citizens are nothing but ATMs. I am sure I will be branded as insensitive for my statement, but where does this stop and when? I really receive no benefits from what is picked from my pocket on a daily basis. Absurd!

I applaud the State Senate. After all what sense does it make to allow these children into our elementary, middle and high schools and then dump them when it is time for them to go on to higher education. They will contribute more to our society as college graduates than they would as high school graduates. I don't understand why it is that not one of you who are opposed to this measure are not calling your elected officials clomoring for them to stop letting these youth into our public schools - do you not realize that your property tax dollars are going into the coffers that are used to allow these "illegals", as you call them, to go to the public schools in your towns and cities. I do not necessarily agree with this legislation, but I think that these children should also not be given the false hope that they can succeed, when they can not, and I would rather they got good paying jobs that pay higher taxes instead of the alternative.
Why do you assume we do not object to having illegal children in our public schools? I object to any taxpayer money going to illegal immigrants and their children for any reason. We are responding specifically to this particular bill since that is what the article is about.

Why is so much time spent by our elected representatives cajoling illegal immigrants (remember they are breaking the law by being here) while there is not a 'Jessica's law' on the books in Connecticut?

Connecticut is one of 11 states that does not have Jessica's law.

It seems that our elected legislators are more interested in giving benefits to illegal immigrants than protecting our kids.

WHAT is it that state and federal don't see in the word ILLEGAL immigrants?? Why should LEGAL citizens pay TAXES for STATE colleges and universities, only to be benefited by ILLEGAL immigrants and take up the "spaces" of CT students?? Between President Bush's policies on illegal immigrants and THIS one, we might as well just open up our borders to anybody. Go to a FOREIGN country and SEE what YOU can DO or GET. You will be lucky IF you can buy real estate there, i.e. Bermuda!

How can these illegal immigrants afford a college tuition? I thought they were doing **** jobs that supposedly nobody else wanted. AND YET, they can afford to pay for college? This completely stinks.

It seems like the more these people get the more they demand. Here's an idea. Take all that money and buy a plane ticket the hell out of here.

This is a positive step forward. I applaud the legislature for having such progressive mind. This is an excellent idea that in my mind will allow this youth continue their education in a way they can afford. Remember that this is NOT free tuition. These students were already accepted into college on their own merits and they do not get ANY financial aid. These students realize that they have a lot of barriers in front of them but continue moving in a positive track. I hope the Governor signs the bill. I'll call her and I'll have all my friends call her too. Fifteen of my close friends already called her!!!

Give these kids a chance! How about giving any real American the same chance, if rell signs all is lost, of course the most important thing to be learned is to stay in power these vagabonds take your hard earned money and throw down a toilet. How dare any government take my money and give it away, then state how generous the American people are. I, for 1, want all monies paid in taxes to used for America and Americans only. Not some poor illegal immigrant, your state really sucks anyway, it's soon to get worse. I don't tell many people I'm from there

My daughteer wanted to attend Uconn so badly, sadly I had to tell her she must accept a local school as the tuition was way to high. Perhaps this bill wil change and she can make believe she is not some lowly American citizen who pays $1,0000's in taxes each year. I guess I have no grounds to compalin, the poor kids, it's always the kids, in reality it is for the illegal votes. I never ever thought I would feel so ill about this once great nation. There is no way this bill should be signed, but it will. The rulers ( I refuse to call them leaders)will do anything and most of the residents of Ct, hell America are way to busy trying to make a living so the rulers can take it from them and give it to illegals. MMM perhaps once a bank is robbed the thief can say he/she was only trying to provide a better life for his/her family. I noticed yesterday at Badly field ( I am aware of the name) some chick was busted for a joint and a few roaches, they will throw the book at her, no tax revenue!

You folks must make note who vote yea and who voted nay, show your views at the polls, imagine if the Clintons take over again, hide you paultry few bucks before they steal it and give it away to "help" these illegals. It's time for a new party to take over!

My friend no you are perfectly correct. I bailed out of that hell hole in 75 to a growth state and my life took off, had I stayed there who the hell knows. I pay no state income tax, a fairly high sales tax, property tax on the house only and a no non sense legal system that will execute murders, help the down trodden and expect each citizen to add to our States society. Our Governor, Rick Perry, is an idiot and a liar, but somewhat conservative. He lied about the fence to get elected, said no new taxes, then bangs a buck a pack tax. I would love to see every smoker just stop man they would be hurtin, no we would be hurtin huh. Get active and throw the bums out

The Answer: Because you probably opposed the Democrat "give away". The Courant HATES that...and anything that smacks of Republican fiscal conservativism. Want to know why The Courant subscription rate is down? Because everyone is leaving the State. They're leaving because of idiotic laws like this one. If I were Bin Laden I'd stay in Connecticut. No one would know I was here and my illegal immigrant kids would be educated by the infidel Americans. What a Country! We get what we deserve...every year from the incumbent dems.
