I am not sure how to even respond to Jeff Jacobs' anti-Yankee column today. It is a fact that he does not like NY nor any of its teams. In CT it seems like half go towards the Ma end and the better half go towards the NY end. I am a New Yorker, presently living in CT, who is a big time Yankee fan. Sports is a funny animal as it lives in the present tense - past is great - future has not happened but the now is what it survives on for sure. Twelve years is commendable and I love Joe Torre, but it is time. Time for a change for sure. He is a gentleman and I believe that Yankee management had only one direction to go here. They offered him a pretty decent deal but I think that Joe has had it. He is done and I believe at 67 he should retire into something a little less high profile than managing the NY Yankees. Stay intune with your baseball but help our children. He has a very calm and nice way about him and kids could learn from this for sure. Joe is a good guy, but he has failed the Yankees and as Al Neuharth from USA Today stated he should "kiss everyone an honorable goodbye".

Jacobs - grow up and at least try not to show your disdain for the Yankees - I know it will be hard for you but as a writer for a CT paper you owe it to your CT residents to be non-partial. I on the other hand can say what I want as I do not write for a living nor will I ever attempt to do so. I merely state my opinion as do you but you should be more of a professional. This is only my opinion - one I am sure you will completely ignore.

"Anti-Yankee"? Gerry, you're like these Michigan blowhards out here who get their panties in a bunch if anybody dare write or say a bad word about "their" team. Relax, I'm sure the Yankees will try to buy another World Series next year.

Torre failed the Yankees? Please. Your top pitcher choked in both starts against the Tribe, and Jeter and A-Rod were non-entities at the plate. I suppose one could question starting Wang on short rest instead of Mussina, but I don't think that makes Torre the full culprit.

Torre works with the players he has, and by and large, the Yankees have gotten him a bunch of skilled but aging mercenaries that never seem to gel. With a ton of promising young players entering or already enjoying star careers (Cano, Chamberlain, Hughes, etc.), now would be an ideal time for a calm, fatherly type like Torre to be at the helm and finally put together a squad with some shared chemistry.(The 'underdog' Indians, young-gun Rockies, goofball Red Sox, etc.)

The Yankee Front office screwed Joe...No doubt about it. They are soooo hung up on winning a WS, that they forgot the great comback that Torre managed the team through this year. Too bad, Joe was great...they are gonna be sorry.

I don't know what column Mr. Koppe was reading but it wasn't the one I read. I've been a Yankee fan for most of my 74 years. Mr. Jacob's column wasn't anti-Yankee it was anti-top brass. The Steinbrenners were nothing but cowards in the way they handled the Torre situation.
Other than Joe Torre there wasn't a gentleman of honor in that room.

Torrewas offered a 1year contract so that if the team was doing badly at begining they could fire him without afirestorm from the fans .I also think that they thought it would be easier to sign players eligible to leave if they had signed Torre. I believe that Torre saw through what they were doing and made the right decision.

I only wish the Red Sox were in a position to pick up Joe to manage next year. After a lifetime of being a Yankee fan, I would become a really wicked BoSox supporter.
