I’m happy the NNPD was able to get a criminal off the streets. I do have a question for the Officers though. Did you guys notice the large amount of cars in the apartment parking lot with North Carolina tags? You have folks that are living and working in Virginia and have been for quite a while. Virginia law requires those folks to obtain Virginia tags, inspection sticker, and a Virginia driver’s license.

Don’t turn this into an “immigration” debate, the Virginia Motor Vehicle Code has been very clear on this for decades. It’s time those folks pay up like the rest of us.

Well isn't it just great that Sgt. Falero sounds just like those that run sanctuary cities!?! His job is to arrest criminals, like those who are here illegally. It is laughable that Falero says the the immigration status of victims is not relevent. If he feels that way, he should not be a police officer. What a freaking joke. I love my tax dollars being spent on people that have jumped their place in line and crossed the border illegally. If their countries are so bad, then they need to promote change there.

Bryan has a good point. The rest of us are paying for these illegals. What can you expect though? They think they don't have to follow ANY of our laws.

So you would prefer there be no police services available to non-English speaking people because they could be an undocumented immigrant? That's commendable and notable for someone across the river.
I just love my tax dollars being used to support high flying business execs from the Port Authority.

The story is about Hispanic outreach by the NN police and all you get out of it is that Hispanics are 'illegal' and 'lawless' and require financial support from the likes of you.

That pretty much spells it out. You are a racist.

They are illegals. Round them up and deport them.
Again. Illegals using up our tax dollars and still not paying into the system.
If you can find them to protect them, then you can find them to deport them.
Maybe if they get robbed enough without protection they'll leave.
Less funding and manpower for the police to protect it's tax paying citizens. This is an insult to all legal citizens in this town.

No David- They are illegals and by law must be deported. Voicing one's opinion (still granted by the constitution) to have them deported isn't racism.

That pretty much spells it out. You are an idiot.

Bryan, that was in the plan while speaking with these (residents). Sgt Falero and I have been working this beat for several years. The problem with these cars is that 10 different people have keys to these cars and none of them are the registered owner. We are slowly seeing them obtain VA drivers licenses.

Dawn, for years it wasnt even an issue. These people were afraid of the Police and refused to tell us they were being robbed. The story says clearly that the NNPD doesnt yet have an active policy on immigration status reporting. What we do have is the duty to protect and serve anyone who comes to us reporting a crime. These people who are robbing them are committing a greater crime than an immigration offense. I think if you look at the bigger picture, if or when we start arresting for immigration, the jails will be triple their capacity and then where do we put these thugs who are citizens robbing and shooting other citizens. I can tell you the only problem the Illegal Hispanic Community has shown me is that they drink in excess and stand around outside. They on occasion drive and get into fights with each other. In these contacts with them, yes I arrest.

You as sworn officers of the law should demand registration, insurance and all the other necessary documents that are required by the citizens. If a car has NC plates for a period of time, isn't it your duty to find out what is going on, or do you as the officers of the law stick your head in the sand and ignor. I suspect it is the latter.

Newport News Police Chief James Fox drew up a new draft policy in May that involved checking a suspect's immigration status, it is yet to be implemented. Chief Fox should be fired for failing to perform his job expected by his employers the citizens of NN. Fox is as wimpy as Chief Jacocks in VB who allowed his policy to cause the deaths of 2 innocent teen girls by an illegal. We are tired of innefective law enforcement officials who think their own beliefs and agendas superceeds the requirements of their position.

Goodcop how do you justify not doing your swourn job of enforcing the laws of the United States, Commonwealth of Virginia and the City of Newport News?

Everyone should be checked for being legal. Every document should be checked. Illegals should be immediately arrested, placed in jail and held for ICE to deport. There is no other way.

Goodcop..do your job or resign. There is no in-betweeen. Chief Fox needs to be fired also unless he changes his position on illegals.

Listen up Garcia, any people here illegally, be they Poles, Ukranians, Mexicans, Chinese, or others, should be arrested and deported. Various estimates put the number of illegals from Europe at several millions. HOWEVER, these people don't demand signs in their language, social services, and don't march in the streets demanding "rights" they shouldn't have..

If the Police don't enforce the laws, or only those laws they feel are worthy to be enforced, then it's time to clean house.

Illegals are criminals-arrest them, not aid them.
They have no rights.

I'm tired of hearing how we aren't treating them fairly.
They didn't care about us when they choose to break the law, so I dont care abouth them.

Put a bounty on their heads and the US citiznes will clean up our own backyard since the authorities are incompetent to do their jobs.

Wow, didn't take long to throw out the race card! Since when did demanding equal application of the law equate to racism? Your taking your notes well from the ACLU and real racists like La Raza!!!

While I may not like some of Chief Foxs policies, I cannot blame him. We as Cops work within the guidelines set forth by the State. Know that his policy went up to the city and need s approval by the City Atty, Commonwealth Atty and City Council and you should direct you anger at them. Immigration is a Federal law and every Illegal I have arrested was released by the Newport News Sheriffs Office,(Not The Police Dept) because the Federal Government (ICE) didnt want them. I guess you would have us house and feed them in jail of use our tax dollars to maybe try to deport them ourselves. Then they come back and are someone elses problem. I dont defend them, I do what I can with what I have been given. Now if you feel I need to resign for doing my job as best as I can. I will gladly! There are better paying jobs where there arent people telling me how to do it. I could have not arrested the 35 Drunk drivers I caught this year only 1 was an illegal, not to mention the 115 other arrests I have made. The NNPD has cops that havent arrested more that 10 people in a year. So I should quit then what.. One less good cop and I make room for a rookie that will fall into the laziness. You Choose! I am not tooting my own horn, but there are greater issues out there that Immigration.

I can assure you I do my job. As I said in my post, 10 different people drive a car, none the registered owner. It isn't illegal to loan your car is it? I do what can when I can. Again there are greater issues in the world of Law Enforcement than arresting all of the illegal aliens. They arent doing the Murders, Burglaries or Destroying property. That would be the Citizens of Hampton Roads.

You keep doing your job, it sounds to me that you are.

I'm not so sure local police can enforce federal immigration laws. The local guys would be sitting for hours if not days to get an INS agent to respond.

The punk with a gun or knife committing the robbery doesn't care if the victim is "legal" or not. So kudos to the police for placing another punk behind bars.

My problem is that Virginia has laws in place to handle the complaint in my original post.

Here's the deal, I'm a former NNPD officer (many moons ago, LOL). Back in the day when we had unusual situations we would meet with the judge that would most likely hear any cases brought forward. Those meetings would often provide us with a course of action. Maybe some of you could meet with the current traffic court judge and find a soultion to "it's not my car".

Good Luck to you OneGoodCop and please be SAFE!

NC gives illegals licenses wheres VA won't. Illegals don't have car insurance either. Two broken laws the police won't enforce.
