OK, I get it...you think that talking on cell phones causes EVERY car accident in Hampton roads. You know, some of us ARE capable of driving and talking on the phone. I come from a state where talking on a cell phone while driving was outlawed. Guess what??? People still do it - everywhere. When they pass a cop, they drop their phone. When I am talking to my sister and all of a sudden she goes "hang on" and the call goes silent, I know that she just passed a cop. Seems more like another way for municipalities to raise funds. I have seen people driving down the road while eating, putting on makeup, yelling at the kids in the backseat, READING...shall we make all of that illegal too? I think that the police have better things to do.

My condolences to this man's family and friends. So sad...

You need to get a life! All accidents are not caused by cell phone use. Also, the family needs support at this time, not your adolescent opinion! Find HG and discuss cell phones, guns, and community centers between the two of you. The rest of us do not need to hear your continued opinion day after day.

Perhaps he was talking on his cell phone, ever heard of a blue tooth, that would leave BOTH hands on the wheel!

The family does not ever need to see ugly things posted after a death like this. We should all keep this man, his family and friends in our prayers.

If he had hit a cell phone tower, he would have lived.

How dare you say "cell phone"! As a matter of fact, he was NOT on the cell phone! He had some sort of heart attack that caused him to step on the gas.
He was a wonderful person, father, husband, friend and Airman. He will be missed by all! Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dougherty family.

Just try to ignore the guy who posts under that name that he thinks is so clever.

He's a troll who gets off on making fun of other people's tragedies.

This sounds more like a crash than a accident. Barring a heart attack or something, he is to blame for crashing his car. It's sad that he is dead, but condemning someone who takes this view, misses the point.

Unless he did it on purpose, then it was accident.

If this event was caused by a heart attack, then this is 'the exception that proves the rule'. A heart attack could happen to anybody and implies no blame. If this is the case, my heart goes out to the mans family.

Because you can't walk and chew gum simultaneously (hence your inability to use a cell phone while driving), you shouldn't ascribe the same handicap on others.

Yes mamm, you are capable of driving and talking on the phone, we all are! but! you are not capable of driving with 100% of your control and reaction time on the driving side only, you can say you do,but test have showed it is not possible. It is a distraction and is the second leading cause in accidents!! So,to your first comment "OK I Get It" sorry to tell you this, but you really dont!

NO, YOU'RE NOT CAPABLE OF DRIVING AND TALKING ON THE CELL PHONE AT THE SAME TIME!! I drove professionally for many years and a person driving and yakking on a cell phone drives like they are drunk. I don't know how many yakkers I've had to dodge. Why do they have all those drunk driving laws when they let people yak on those things while driving?

If a cell phone yakker causes a wreck while driving it ought to carry the same penalties as driving drunk.
