"The man voluntarily put the dogs into quarantine with animal control officers." Let's see what he voluntarily does with the dogs when he get's her hospital bills and the huge law suit bill, complete with lawyers fees. Why on earth do people think it's kool to keep these dogs?

I'll never understand having pit bulls. They have been bred to be aggressive and dangerous, and most are a time bomb waiting to go off. These dogs aren't pets - they're weapons. Only thugs and people who are up to something that they think needs shielding from either other thugs or the cops would have these beasts.

My brother has a Pit Bull, had one previous to this one as well. Neither dog was agressive, just big babies. As with most living things, dogs to be included, it is how they are raised. Also, any dog, Pit Bull, Shepard, Rotti, Poodle, etc. will protect its master in a dispute. There is nothing in the article that says the man commanded the attack, however, during a domestic dispute, could the woman have become physical? Lesser things have happened. She went to the home of an EX-boyfriend at 3AM to what? Bad move. Let's wait to see what the investigation uncovers.

A person can train a labrador to attack and fight if they choose to....same as a pit bull brought up in a nice, loving, nurturing home can be a wonderful family pet. It's the owner, not the dog. I've witnessed a dalmation attack someone! Pit bulls take the fall because so many people choose to train them to fight because their physiology makes them apt to be "good fighters". Sometimes I wonder that maybe the cliche' "people should have a license to..." own a dog might not be a bad idea... Rich wrote: I'll never understand having pit bulls. Don't blame the breed, blame the owner!

PLUS, not a lot of people really know how to ID a real pit. Just because it has a big head and stocky body, does not mean its a pittie. In fact, "real" ABPT's are lanky - not stocky. You people defending pit bulls are delusional. When is the last time you heard about a labrador killing someone? Or a German Shepherd for that matter? These are vicious animals with a higher than average tendency to attack. I don't care if you own one or not, mind you, but to say they aren't dangerous is just silly.

ANY animal can be dangerous if they are given a stupid owner. Yes, the majority of pit owners are stupid and just get one because of the image but there are responsible people who love the breed and have outstanding examples of what the breed is supposed to be. A while back there was a news article of a pomeranian killing a little kid- should we ban them? There was also a doxie that chewed off someones toe - ban them too? Get a life Yankee wrote: You people defending pit bulls are delusional. When is the last time you heard about a labrador killing someone? Or a German Shepherd for that matter? The ignorance being displayed on the threads this morning is overwhelming. Pit bulls are very loyal and loving dogs. Your statement of only thugs and people who are up to something is crazy. I own a pit bull and I don’t fit in either of those categories. Being a former ACO there were a lot more instances where I was almost bitten by a small breed dog than a large breed.

Okay, so I had to google "pomeranian attack." Happened in 2001, apparently a pomeranian killed a 6-week old infant. Is there a media bias in reporting dog attacks?

Come on are you kidding me "Just my Opinion" what grown man lets his dogs maul a woman, no matter what the circumstances are. What if that was your mother, sister, any relative or friend, I bet you'd change your tune then. I'm pretty sure the dogs knew her, and as relationships go, I'm positive this wasn't a first time incident. He should be charged with attempted murder. I bet he called the dogs on her and they jumped at the chance to show their master what they could do. Charge him and destroy the dogs.

of course there is! You dont ever hear of every lab mix or chihuahua biting people. That happens more than pits (again-most news stories say pit when in fact it most likely was not). You will never hear about it though because people are not hysterical about lab mixes. I looked at the dangerous dog registry for VA and SOO many of those dangerous dogs were other breeds or mixed breeds. Portsmouth is a different story-they have a few pits on the registry- but 4 dogs are from the same household. Der wrote: Okay, so I had to google "pomeranian attack."
