This obviously does not cater to the customers traveling in and out of the Farmington Airport... especially those flying on early-morning flights. Why not ALSO consider opening a coffee/bagel shop OR consider opening early than 11am to serve breakfast items?

Farmington doesn't need another Chili's or Applebee's or "all-American grill and sportsbar" We need decent places to eat other than burgers, wings, and fried food.

But yet people are willing to drive to Durango for good food. If the food is good, people will go out of their way to get there. I would. Perhaps drinkers will curtail their drinking if they have to drive past the police station.
I went to Mama's Boy's Italian restaurant Friday night... high-priced for something Chef Boyardee could've designed.

I would agree with the person who wrote about wanting it to be a place where you would take your family for dinner or lunch. What would you say to an Olive Garden I know that would pack the people in even if it is out of the way such as this restaraunt is?

Thanks for your comment, I know there will always be negetive people out there to quikly bash anyone willing to step forward and take the risk. I did report to the newspaper that I wanted to be compared to Chillis, Applebee's, Outback, and Fudruckers because they are all on the east side of town. Like them you will be able to recieve Lunch or Dinner style meal. Unlike them this faciluty is located on the west side of town. We will offer great food with great service at a reasonable price. As far as the bid process; I submited a RFP just as anyone else in the world had the opportunity to do so, I really wish you would have offered one also. The fact that I am a city employee had no positive gains, rather the fact that I have owned and operated a Catering buisness in farmington for the last 8 years and family dinning establishment for the last 3 years did bare positive reinforcement of my RFP. As you will find the uniforms will be of the up most respect for both the male and female staff. I am very excited for the grand opening and can't wait to share this addition to the Farmington Dinning experience. Please post any comments, concerns, or ideas as they will all be considered. Thank you for your posts, Lance Johnson Zebra's Sports Grill.

Famington residents have been trying for years to get Olive Garden to come to town. They have too many company rules and dont want to put one here. Several have even tried to bring them here on their own, but they refuse to let it happen.
Farmington will probably never see Olive Garden in this town. This is Olive Garden's doings.
I too would like to see a good Italian place come to town. I frequented Johnnie Carino's alot, it was good food at a good price.

If you're convinced that this will work, then by all means go for it - I'm not stopping you. I just want to caution you that this is not 1997 anymore. We no longer have 8 or more Mesa Albuquerque flights, 4 or 5 Phoenix flights, and several Denver flights. And the Mesa Air Pilot Development program is only a fraction of what it was 10-12 years ago (as most of it has moved to ASU at the Phoenix-Gateway airport in the city of Mesa, AZ). The point is that the customer base is only a fraction of what it was pre-9/11 when Senor Peppers was open. But you seem like a smart enterprising individual that has done the required homework, so I'm sure you already knew all of that.
And no, I did not submit a bid for a restaurant because I have no desire to own and operate a restaurant. I DO have a desire, however, to see my tax dollars spent wisely. After the complete boondoggle of Sky Haven, I feel angry and cynical about this deal and give the Farmington city council a vote of no confidence as to their competence in this matter. And as a past frequent traveler to Durango, Albuquerque,(and in the past) Roswell, Pueblo, CO, and Dalhart, TX, and all around the US, Canada, and Mexico, I know what airport restaurants/grills/snack bars work and which ones don't. But don't take my word for it.
If, however, you can make a go of it at the airport and can turn a profit, more power to you. I might even be a customer if that happens.
Remember, good food at a reasonable price. Prompt service. Don't get too fancy and upscale. Keep it simple and unpretentious. Again, check out the snack bar/grills in Durango LaPlata County airport and the lower floor of Albuquerque Sunport where the Great Lakes gates are. They offer basic breakfast, lunch, and dinner food at a reasonable price with no games and "atmosphere".
Good Luck.
Your worried about your tax dollars? What about all parks being built? Just one example is the Miller street park. Nice park, probably has its share of drunks but whatever it was built. Then the city tears down the old black and white club and builds another park which is half a mile away. Your tax dollars actually are wasted only if the building stays vacant. This is away to recoop some of the money the city spent. I will give it a try. I'm tired of all the restraunts here.

I cant wait for this to open. We need a place to watch sports that we can actually hear the game playing, instead of the words running down at the bottom of the TV. I dont think being at the end of town will hurt him at all. No traffic would be great. The downfall of the others was bad food and poor service. I think hes on to something. Goodluck! And for all the negative people out there, offer granola bars and bottled water and they will come. O wait..... Dont we dont want them there anyway.

I hope you look at a place like Steamworks or Standard Diner in Albuquerque for menu ideas. The great thing about places like that is you can get things out of the ordinary. Grilled Ahi Tuna sandwitch, unique pasta combinations, wood oven pizza, fish tacos, sweet potato fries, killer meatloaf and garlic mashers etc. Think out of the box and you will succeed. Good luck Lance, make it work!

Lance, I think we do need another Applebees, Chili's, Outback, etc. It is hard to get into those places. I remember when the Skyliner was in business at this location and it was great. It served the people of Farmington, not the people flying in and out of Farmington. I think you have something going here and I wish you the best. Can't wait to try it out myself!!

It takes a real man to go and start up a new business when all the other loosers sit idoly by and complain.
I say "great job" to Zebra's and I know my family and friends will all have to go by and check it out.

I can assure you that when someone opens a new eating place in Farmington, even if they sold "Dog Poop on a Stick" they would be busy for a month or two. People in Farmington have no idea of what good eating establishments are. The pople in Farmington do not Tip well, Dress well, talk/speak good english, or understand politness - in other words most of your citizens are jerks! No, dumb jerks who don't really care or even know better - they don't even know there jerks.

TruePoo, I can assure you many folks like you who come from CreamButt Springs CO, are not exactly the most acceptable tools on the planet. It's a tourist town, and actions to rip off the visitor are ten-fold there. The local economy in Creambutt is sluggish and people are desperate, wishing the good ol days would come back. Car break-ins are common, and food stamps are used as currency for drugs and alcohol. The wimmin are skinny and eyes sunken in from heroin useage, with men having lost their libidos due to excessive tweaking of meth. Prostitution is rampant and AIDs has become as common as Bangkok, Thailand. Some residents have resorted to stealing body organs from visiting skiers, afte they intoxicate and make them pass out. Sorry TooPoo, you're out of touch with the real world.

Johhny Carino's was considered good food? Ever wonder why they are out of business now? Olive Garden is way, way better than anything Carino's could've mustered. Even the little Italian restaurant on Main and Broadway St in Farmington serves food with true zestiness of herbs and spices, that made Carino's taste like cardboard.

I agree with you about the little restaurant on main/broadway, however, bashing Carinos shows your foolishness. The food had nothing to do with why they were out of business. The problem with Farmington over the years is the lack of atmosphere their restaurants have had. Until the bigger chains came to town the only place to eat was little run down holes in the wall that served nothing but mexican. Zebra's is a breath of fresh air because this town is lacking a true sports eatery. I have been there and they seem to have done it right, it is for the community not the air traveler. Just because it is located at the airport shouldn't hurt it, in fact the location really isn't that bad. Got plenty of parking and is away from a lot of the negative crap you run into at other places.

More business is good business for Farmington. And locally-owned business is even better. Keep our dollars in Farmington. I've eaten at Zebras twice now and both times there weren't many empty tables, the service was decent, and the food was VERY well priced. I don't care about the sports and I don't fly, but I will continue to visit Zebras for another good place to eat without paying too much. And only it takes me 15 minutes to drive completely across town so that's not even an issue. Get the steak for two - great deal! Good luck Lance - I applaud your entrepreneurial spirit. That's the spirit that causes you to actually DO something to further yourself and your community.

Sounds like a great place to eat...I like the name of the restaurant. You can count on me to stop by and have lunch/dinner. I'm not worried about PD or the west location. I know it will be successful. GO FOR IT!
