Mrs. Pellegrini will be missed. She is a voice of sanity on what is quickly becoming a ship of fools. Lets hope for an appointment with the capacity for rational thought and a vision for this areas future.

Elections were just held, and now she's casting off? Does this indicate where her heart really was in the first place?

I actually remember when Hunter unseated a retired Caltrans engineer who was very competent and capable of understanding the issues before the Harbor Commission. Hunter has accompiished absolutely nothing since his tenure began.

And now that you have a so-called environmental tilt on the board you can forget all about reviving the economic viability of the harbor.

Dear Reader, how about this take... It may indicate that if her seat went up to a vote, a progressive would have filled it. Whereas, Richard was a shoe-in given the split progressive ticket. Early on Richard demonstrated himself a stooge. He'll likely vote with the conservative majority on most issues. So, there were better odds for conservatives if she bowed out after the election.

with a less than 20% turnout for this last election, you can hardly call wilson's win a "landslide" victory. now with pellegrini leaving ,higgins party of NO will be vying to add to that rank of NO and will be trying to finally put the nail in the coffin for any kind of common sense living wage job development for the port= NO NO NO. HUM.

She will be missed.

But even worse, the "No on Everthing" crowd has a chance to take over another government body. They never relent in their quest to kill every job in Humboldt County.

Still, if the Harbor Commission is all that important, why resign just to buy a house?

Might as well close the door to the port. All reasonable people are gone and replaced with Obama clones. What will happen when people that actually work not for government stop.

It is all about the political process! So, if anyone has noticed besides myself - why the secrecy by appointed officials who are serving terms on various boards/commissions to wait until the last possible moment (in an election cycle year) to reveal their intentions to QUIT?

So far, the plan of political manipulation has been (Planning Commission & School Board election openings too) "we are moving". This is just another type of shenanigan that political insiders use to set-up a process that usurps the ballot voting process so that the "general public" is limited to the least amount of foreknown knowledge as possible prior to the actual replacement selection( election date too) which does not want anyone else to know except for the chosen few.

Too bad voters can't sense political quitting prior to the countering of the votes.

Excellent point Jeffery. Resign when you've got the majority you want to keep, instead of allowing the public to vote-in another lefty. Did she think she was moving during her last election or is that just plausible deniability?

It took a republican majority and a financial/business "professional" to spend the Commission into trouble.

Eureka needs to start saying NO!!

No more sprawl, no more big box malls, no more poverty wages, no more big oil and steel port fantasies... This legacy of failure must end with the nuclear plants on earthquake faults next to elementary schools or an LNG plants next to our largest population.

Other rural cities are doing better, so can we.

That might have made sense except for one thing. The remaining commission will be voting on her successor & they are split 2-2.

It would have been far, far safer to trust the voters of the first district to name her replacement. The first district is by far the most conservative district in the county.

Yes, I understand the commission will possibly decide; and, if they don't, on to the county supervisors.

So, agendas can be continued by the appointments of those from the community that fill the need for the success of the pre-ordained agenda(s). Further, the way this decision came out after the election, it clearly was a strategic maneuver due to the fact that with the other seats/election-votes, IF knowing that R.P. was stepping down ahead of the election, the vote counts would have been different - how much is debateable. This is the 3rd "out-of-the-blue resignation that has occured since FPPC filings for this past election cycle. Again, it is all about the process - TIMING.

Dear Dear Reader,

A harbor commissioner postion is supposed to be non-partisan. They are supposed to be serving the economic interests of the District. If not, then they should be recalled.

Just look at the diminishing degree of commerce on the waters of Humboldt Bay over the past 20 yera. There is a greater threat to the ecosystems on Humboldt Bay from Arcata's wastewater treatment plant than from shipping.

Nearly every city in the county is having waste water problems, Rio Del needs $15 million, Eureka needs $30-$40 million.

Local political offices are "non-partisan" legally, not in reality. How do you expect to recall anyone? The development community has funded and won the majority of seats for decades, selected from their lairs at the Ingomar, Chamber and Rotary. A similar political reality exists all around the world.

It's in their financial interest to continue building remote subdivisions, the basis of Arkley's lawsuit against the county, to hell with the infrastructure, over-flowing sewers, inadequate emergency services, police and schools.

They've even managed to popularize a lie against their opponents.

I couldn't find the "no-growth" organization in the phone book.

Where do I join?

That is a delusion push forward by the left wing moonbats to excuse away their constant losses in political elections. John Ash belongs to the Rotary and the Ingomar. What happened to him?

Get a life & man up. Stop the excuses. There was nobody shooting from the grassy knoll, Elvis is dead and so is Jimmy Hoffa. The moon landing really did happen & the average person in Eureka is still conservative.
