Catholics for Choice, a Washington based pro-choice advocacy group, initiated this dissent.
To begin with, the headline should not state Catholics to Pope ... At best, the headline should read, Former Catholics to Pope...
The Church has stated clearly that you cannot be pro choice (abortion) and be Catholic at the same time. Either you accept the teachings of the Catholic Church or you are a protester. Protesters are normally called Protestants.
So to be really accurate, the headline should read, Protestants to the Pope...

What is your point, Ex Catholic? One does not judge the religion by the people in it, but by it's principles. I am not a Catholic, but I find it silly to judge Catholism by those disgusting men hiding behind the priesthood. And teh cover-up is inexcusable. But, I would not want people judging the Christian religion by the pastors, but by Christ and the Bible and Christian principles. But all of that is besides the point, isn't it? The point is that handing out condoms and encouraging people to murder their unborn children is not going to alleviate the AIDS problem one bit. I emphatically resent pro-murder (under the guise of pro-"choice")organiz ations trying to promote the liberal distribution of condoms and rampant abortions in the name of reducing AIDS. Baloney! If humans followed God's plan for sex, being restricted to the marriage bed between one man and one women, well, there would be no AIDS, would there???? THAT is the point!!!!!

Didn't Christ say "And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven."???? So "capitalist", you REALLY don't use righteous judgement (John 7:24) do you? Nor do you use the Bible for anything but collect dust on your coffee table. |

Many Catholics are dead in their faith. They really don't know what it's like to be truly Catholic. They live their lives according to the ways of the world and Satan. As for the ex-Catholic before you judge the Catholic Church remember that in every institution where there is man there is evil. As a Catholic I was upset over the scandal because bishops let these priests get a away with these crimes. I pray for those abused by these priests. Here is link that will show you that abuse is not only happenning the the Catholic Church, but other faiths as well.

Again, what is your point? I am not a Catholic. I call no one Father except the Good Lord. I call my earthly father Daddy, BTW. And yes, I read the Bible every day, recieved e-mail devotions everyday, and attend Bible studies. Do you always go so blantently off topic when you speak> |

Yes, I agree. |

Getting back to the point of the article...You have to be an idiot to believe that the Catholic church lifting the ban on contraception will do anything to alleviate the AIDS epidemic. It is nonsense. This is just another disgusting attempt of the pro-murder left at trying to make their agenda more palatable to the general public. A spoonful of sugar.... Again, if you honor God's purpose for sex, no AIDS, and certainly no need for abortion.

I know God's plan for sex because He makes it abundantly clear in the Bible. There is no room for interpretation there. Pretty darn clear. As for the one man one woman, what I actually meant was reserving sex for ONE partner within a marriage. Again, no AIDS spread that way. It is a scientific fact that you can't spread AIDS in a monogamous relationship. How does that make me an idiot?
God did not create birth control BTW...I don't see condoms raining down like manna from heaven, do you? |

Capitalist-
You keep using the phrase "pro murder" to refer to contraception, but need I remind you that semen is not a baby? It only has half of the chromosomes needed for a baby. Using a condom is no more murderous than a woman menstruating and thus discarding an "unused" egg. Or is every woman who doesn't remain constantly pregnant a murderer? |

The church will never change it's stand on birth control. They teach abstinence until your married, and then the rhythm method.

I was using the phrase "pro-murder" in lue if "pro-choice", not pro-contraception. Pro choice is a rediculous misnomer. Let's call it what it is, pro-murder. I was not at all referring to contraception.
Like I said, what I am opposing here is using this birth control issue to mask their true agenda, pro-abortion, and the liberal dispensing of contraception, and claiming that it is a means toward the end of eradicating AIDS. A disgusting deception. I am not opposed to a married couples using birth control. |

He made them male and female. Any other way and the human race would of died with the first two. God did not give us birth control, man did. Aids was predominately a homosexual thing until it got out into the blood transfusion area. I believe this now been eliminated. Aids can be stopped if all remained monogamous. |
|
Catholics failure to allow for the use of birth control is a total shame - one reason I left the church. Only reason it's a "sin" is because they want more Catholics born. Look how great this has gone over in Africa - missionaries went there for centuries and converted the masses. Now those folks don't use birth control and there's over population all over the continent and AIDS has devastated dozens of countries.
Similar overpopulation in Latin America and Asia has similar roots. |
|
wow - I haven't read such blabber since high school - Man might have created birth control, but God created man and gave man a mind that allowed him to figure out birth control, so therefore, God made birth control. |

I'm not going to try to argue the pro-choice thing. We don't see eye to eye on that and that's just how it's going to be. However, accusing people who want to give access to contraception to those who can't afford it - say in Africa where the AIDS epidemic really is terrible - of ACTUALLY trying to promote abortions is ludicrous.
I think it's perfectly reasonable to be both pro-life and to support free contraception as an attempt to stem the AIDS epidemic. Not everyone who supports free contraception is a baby-killer or is switching partners weekly. But is it really Christian to know that you could help prevent the spread of AIDS with a condom and not support that? To me, that's showing an incredible amount of malice to your fellow humans. Not everyone with AIDS is a horrible person, and ever people who don't have it are still sinners, it's just a matter of the sin. |

The whle abstinance things and the tradition that priests cannot marry only dates to Contantene (who created the decree only after a lifetime of debachery)
totally hypocritical. God and Jesus never had these views.... |

The only way you can really help alleviate the problem with AIDS in countries like Africa is to educate them!!! Educate them in 1. what causes AIDS, 2. promoting monogamy. If you consider what is causing the AIDs epidemic there such as the belief that if you rape a virgin, you can "pass" the virus to her and out of you. Sexual practices there are a part of the culture. Handing them a condom will do nothing to change the culture. Condoms are a band-aid on a gaping wound. And the people who wrote this letter to the Pope know it. My opinion is that this letter isn't about AIDS in Africa, it is about their pro-"choice" agenda.
We are all ignoring the big picture here. The cure and COMPLETE eradication of AIDS is completely free...teach every human being to honor Gods purpose and standards for sex. Disease gone! A condom..a tiny band-aid. |
|
|
A band-aid is better than an open wound at any rate, and considering human fallibility, "God's plan for sex" would never be implemented perfectly. I won't get into how wrong I think it is to change deeply held cultural beliefs. It's a sticky situation no doubt.
But why does an advocacy group for condoms have to necessarily have anything to do with being pro-choice? Granted, THIS one is, but you can't seriously think that everyone that takes issue with the Catholic Church's antiquated stance on this (and everything else) is secretly masterminding some insidious plan to make the entire world pro-choice... |
|
God gave man free will. You can't possibly believe that everything derived from the mind of man is Godly? There are a lot of disgusting fantasies, creations, etc out of the minds of men. God created those too? Bad logic. |
