I thought atheists could care less about this as long as it is not in the government. Yet, here they are trying to use this as a recruiting tool to stop people from worshipping God. How stupid is this?

The insidious grasp of organized religion is infused with virtually EVERY aspect of our society today. It's about time somebody told the rational side of the story. A fictitious and antiquated "god" myth is mentioned on our money, in our courts - and our politicians can't even run for office without pretending to be affiliated in some way. Atheists are the last unprotected group in this nation and it's time we stopped pretending to believe in fairy tales and stand up for our rights as humans.
Then again, I could be wrong...... it's perfectly reasonable to believe that we are all descended from 2 people, one of whom was constructed from the rib of another by a magical man in the sky who then ate an apple from the genius tree that was given to her by a talking snake. |

How interesting. People of "no hope" of any life after you die trying to force their views of "no hope" on people and try and turn them away from Hope or Spirituality. Gee tough choice here. I choose Hope. I choose God.
What is the worth to you for forcing Atheism? Christians try to save people. That is their goal, but honestly, forcing Atheism has no value unless maybe you side with Satan and possibly don't realize why you feel so compelled to attack Christianity. |
||||
Hey Dumb-****.... people who don't believe in God CAN'T believe in his equally fictitious and mean spirited arch-rival Satan. If you really want to waste your life waiting for that super duper white cloudy afterlife, you're insane, but that's your choice. But keep it the F-CK out of my schools. Keep it the F-CK out of my legislation. But you can't. You won't. That is why christianity (or ANY organized religion) is not harmless. It's not about your "hope" - it's about your nefarious domination of nearly every social issue. It's about you legislating YOUR morality on the rest of us. It's about YOU denying homosexuals their BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS. Ironic that one atheist billboard can upset you so much, especially considering that the rest of the world has had to endure 2000 years of christians forcing their beliefs at the end of a sword (gun, bomb). |

Seriously is really an idiot. All of a sudden its his schools and not ours. Yet his beliefs deal with a science book and scientist who are not 100% accurate because they are people. If this idiot can prove that scientist are 100% accurate then he has an argument. If he can't then he is talking nonsense. As far as money, protest it and don't use it. Great ethics and morals. Hey if you want to fudge pack, fudge on!!!

Wow. Wow. Wow. What's better? Admitting you don't have all the answers and striving to find them through logic, research and reason...or just sticking with 2000 year old fairy tales simply because... well.... um.... you know, it makes sense. That is, unless you start to think about it. Or test it in any way. And then you'll start to realize how NONE of the bible is plausible in any way shape or form. And that there is no god. And that every minute you spend praying is a minute you've wasted. And regarding "fudge packing"? Classy. Accepting. Is that the christian "love" I've heard so much about? You are proving my points for me. The more close-minded YOU are, the more emboldened WE will become. Look at your congregations... they are aging. Look at your churches... they are closing. Look at your religious schools.... closing. It's starting. Soon, you will die. And you know what, your kids probably won't believe the same nonsense you believe. Even if you've successfully brainwashed them against all reason, in the future they'll begin to realize that it's likely a whole lot of made up B.S. Either that or their children will. And then, finally, we'll exist in a world without the petty grievances or make-believe makers. You probably scoff at the ancient Romans and their belief in 100's of gods. You probably laugh at the Native American tales of "how the bear lost his tale" and think the Hawaiian idea of the earth being created on a turtle's back is absurd. What about the Indian gods that look like elephants or that fat Buddha ****? You probably loathe them. And that is exactly how antiquated your silly little Jesus beliefs appear to me. And one day, hopefully soon, the schools and courts will feel the same. |

For me, part of atheism is a willingness to admit that there is much that I may never know. If there is a god of the gaps, it is because those gaps are huge and only grow larger as new knowledge necessitates new lines of research and investigation. Humankind will never know all that can be known, but explaining that unknown with unsupportable superstitions only hinders the continuing pursuit of knowledge.

The fact is this, if you are atheist, prove that scientist are 100% accurate and how an atom is created. If you can prove this, I will personally turn to an atheist. Good luck to you. What I meant about fudge packing is I am not one to judge you if you are gay or not. That is not up to me. Yet you choose and talk about being classy yet, you cuss. So you prove my point that you have no ethics, morals, or character. Thank you! |

This is the type of reason that you would expect from a true atheist, and not from someone who is simply fleeing to atheism from embitterment. I applaud and respect your opinion and humility. As for Seriously, well, he is to be taken anything but. I'm of a questioning mind, to say the least, but find the humanity seeps in. I can never prove either there is or is not a higher deity, but I look at the intricacies of the universe, the creativity of the design, the absolute perfection and precision, and can compare it to something crafted by pure genius that can only be recognized by man. God, World, and Man are known only in relation to each other. Religion is a personal, private choice. I despise the behemoth that the organized church has become, wielding damnation as a tool to promote personal or political ends. Churches would be absolutely prevented from advertising in an NYC subway station, or in any place that receives money from tax revenue. Conversely, religious institutions receive all sorts of breaks from taxation. When groups of atheists or an atheists 'church' arises and receives these breaks, I will cry foul. Until then, capitalism prevails. |

Why should the burden of proof rest strictly on the scientific community? That seems like a convenient little dodge that your pastor uses so that he won't have to address the real issue. Also, let's be real here.... when it comes to proof, a researcher crushes a pastor in every way. If you're such a fan of "proof", how about you toss me some proof that A) a magic man in the sky exists B) He created 1 person. C) Used the RIB from that person to create the second. C) they went on to populate the planet by themselves (with people that lived to be 400 years old). D) Later, nearly everyone was then killed in a flood so big it looked like the movie Waterworld. E) do I really need to put any more examples? This is already total nonsense and I haven't even gotten to Moses or Jesus yet! Come on man! Proof? Really? You need MORE PROOF that just maybe science may be more accurate than the church? That's what's stopping you from believing in science? If you believe in the bible you certainly don't need proof! All you need is a 2000 year old fiction that your parents told you was real! Also, nice try on pretending to be accepting of gays. The fact that you feel that homosexuals should be JUDGED proves your holy righteous intolerance. Why should they be judged - and by who's standards? Yours? Your churches? Do you see why your religion is not simply a personal choice, but a social overlord that restricts the freedoms of ALL humans - even ones that know you're insane? And regarding my ethics, morals, and character - what makes you qualified to rate such things? First, I haven't cussed on this message board - and the filters actually make it unable to do so. Secondly, I've lived a more "christian" life than nearly EVERY christian I've run across in my days. You don't need a phony story book to have a moral compass. Just look at yourself - you hate other humans for simply being different from you. If that's "ethics and morality", you can keep it. |
||||
You see.... unlike you, he probably doesn't simply assume that every human is a monotheistic christian. The fact that you do merely proves his point. His point is that there are THOUSANDS of gods that you choose not to believe in. Thousands. Hindu gods, Roman gods, Greek gods, tribal gods..... thousands of gods. We all agree on that. We simply believe in one fewer god than you do. We are more similar than we are different in that regard. And when you can justify why you can believe in your 1 god and not the thousands of others, well, talk to me then. |
||||
|
Also.... if your message board handle is really "Educated What Difference Does It Make"..... well.... I think you also help to prove that an education DOES make a difference. You should get one. Ideally one outside of Texas.

We do not have a problem with people worshipping their god. We have a problem with religion becoming a fragment of our laws. Blue laws, Xmas as National Holiday, swearing in at courts, Womens rights, Living wills, God on money, Faith based initiatives. None of the things I mentioned were part of our history for the first century of our existence as a nation. THey do have the right to advertize. Freedom of religion is also Freedom from religion |
