Decent article, but it overlooks that fact that the majority of accidents involving those "little chuggers" are a direct result of how their owners act on the road. I've lost count of how many "little chuggers" have passed me on I-10 AND 54 PASSING between me and another car.

On the same note, I would like to see speeding cameras set up on Transmountain, with the fines being doubled for speeders and jail time for those who have an accident or cause an accident due to speeding and wreckless driving.

If it is a fact, I'm certain you can provide a cite for it.

Taking your post at face value and presuming that icepick's post in legit, not facetious or simply rhetorical.

"Cite" is short for citation, so I think he's asking for reference material or a source for proof that your statement that most collisions are caused by motorcycle riders is factual.

I'm familiar with motorcycles, riding motorcycles, operating cars and trucks, teaching defensive driving classes and among other things investigating motor vehicle collisions/crashes (sometimes called "accidents").

I agree that some riders seem to be out-of-control, driving too fast, taking extremely dangerous and risky maneuvers....unfortunately, they will be in an "accident" and when it happens the odds are against them.

The odds of being killed by lightning in one year is 1 in 6,383,844 over a life time 1 in 81,949. The odds of being killed riding a motorcycle is: in one year 1 in 73,085 over a life time 1 in 938.

These are not good odds ! I stopped riding years ago because of how dangerous it was. A rider must be ever vigilant, drive defensively, and be lucky; I'm not very lucky.

However, except when you add alcohol and when its a single motorcycle "accident" your statement is only partially right. Most motorcycle crashes are not primarily caused by the rider and its statistically rare for it to be 100% the riders fault. Usually its a chain of events with more than one mistake made by more than one driver or rider....i.e the driver of the car didn't see the cycle, etc.

Anyway the only reason I'm writing is to remind everyone...with high gas prices we will see more cycles out there now more than ever before.... Please, drive defensively, drive safely, drive courteously, drive respectfully. Live and let live. It can be dangerous out there on the road, we all want to make it home safely tonight.

LOL, you made my head hurt. ;) My source is me and my experiences driving on 54 and i-10, but for a more recent example of motorcycle rider at fault.

The young man that killed his girlfriend on Transmountain a few weeks ago.

In theory one could say that there are more accidents with vehicles with 4 or more wheels, but those folks tend to survive and the odds are always in their favor.

When an individual chooses to ride a 2 wheeled vehicle, they assume all responsibility for their safety and those that ride with them. There is no excuse for an accident to occur. If you are smaller than the vehicle next to you or around you, slow down, approach with caution.

Just think what could have been said if we had a title to this thread.:)
