I worked at the Daily Breeze for 9+ years, met lots of good people who I am still good friends with today. I have many fond memories of the now "old building" every time I drive by it reminds me of where I statred my working career.

I am happy for the Breeze to finaly gets its new 'digs' in a more updated building. Although I am quite saddened at the thought of the old building being removed. I spent 15 years in the old building and I know every crack in the floor, every leaky roof area, every -- problem, that the buidling has had in these last years. I know this as I have repaired and or replaced most of 'everything' many times - in the building. It was very much a labor of love for the old buidling, as the paycheck I received was not much of an incentive.

I've been apart of many birthdays, holidays, happy times... and sad in that building. I have made ALOT of good friends as well as lost a few.

I have stood in awe, as the big press fired up and printed the days paper and I have stood in awe, in the large 'airplane hanger' space, left over when the press was dissmanteled and trucked away.

I have trimmed and mowed and clipped the front yard to perfection so that the buidling would 'shine' to eveyone who passed by on Torrance Blvd. When I passed by the building with my family on the way to the beach I would always point out to the kids 'thats where I work, look how nice the front yard looks'! PRIDE.

Yes, I worked at that building for many years. I missed a few Christmas mornings with my family. Spent countless new years eve's, and new years days, superbowls, world series, parties weddings, anniversaries (even a few of my own) working there. I have worked over 12 months at a time without taking a vacation or sick day..... all for the love and PRIDE of my job, keeping that old buidling looking good and functioning.

I have constructed many offices in that buidling and torn a few out. There has been times when someone would go home on Friday and I would work all weekend nonstop to build them an office .. A complete office in 3 days, drywall, electical, window, door, paint... just to hear on Monday morning... "I really dont like the color", or "I wanted my desk on the other wall....." and the few rare times someone would be really happy and offer to buy me lunch... good times and not so god.. heh.

If you have never experienced a job where you really feel like part of the company, or really felt like part of the overall - structure, that helps the day to day business keep going, than you may not be able to understand what it is I'm trying to say here.

I am going to miss seeing the old building. It holds lots of memories for me and a few ghosts.

In closing I would like to say congradulations to the Daily Breeze Newspaper in being able to stay in Torrance and to be able to continue to print the paper, I read it every day. And thanks to all my old friends at the Breeze.

Vince the maintenance guy.

Hey MoMo, go back and read the story. You'll find the answer. It just takes a little bit of effort to read the story, then if you have questions, feel free to ask.

End of an era. Sadly, I don't see this newspaper lasting another five years. Sorry guys. I'm sure I'll visit the online edition.

I did read the article. You will notice they didn't say what year, only the fourth quarter of the year. With the economic crisis and excess medical space in the South Bay why do they need to build more medical offices? Can't they use that money to offset the high cost of medical care for the under insured and uninsure?

You people will find anything to **** about. A hospital wants to increase in size and you are upset at that? With all the hospital's closing throughout LA, you'd think you'd just be happy you live in Torrance.

I'm sure there is some sort of self-serving excuse for this attitude.

I think it's safe to say that when the hospital spokesperson say that they will break ground in the 4th quarter of the year, then they are referring to the current year, of which we are in the first quarter.

Back in the 60's, my dad and I would drive from Encino to the pier for a nice day of fishing.
The Breeze never made it to the valley, so picking one up was a treat. Thank God it was never as big as the Sunday Times.
It was a pleasurable read, lots of AP copy, but a decent sports section! Great while waiting for the fish to bite.
And it's still one of the great newspaper names!
Brings back great memories about Torrance and the Redondo Beach pier.

I canceled my subscription to the Breeze in August and it still gets delivered to my house every morning. I called the Breeze in October and the lady more or less said if you're not being billed don't worry about it.
