The City tows cars for back taxes and then burns them? So the people still have to pay the taxes but have no cars now. The City should be held 100% liable. I think the State Police & Blumenthal need to get involved. This was a malicious act committed by the City. And what about the personal belongings inside these vehicles? It better be a class action lawsuit, none of this bull shi* that you "need permission" to sue the City or State. This is a criminal act by the City so you don't need their permission to sue them.

Well it looks like things have not changed in Bridgeport since I left.
During these hard economic times the city is taking cars that people can not afford to pay taxes on and then wants to add towing and storage fees for the owners to get them back.
I am not suprised that something like this has happened. I suspect it will not be the last such incident.

It would not make sense for the tow company to burn the cars. They are on their property and would be liable. All the owner is on the hook for so to speak is the tow bill. They will have to see what has to be done regarding the vehicle. If the vehicle it totaled, they still own the car.

I would say that they still have to pay, they do owe the money that's why the car was towed in the first place.

You know they will find a way to weasle out of their responsibility. They will say that the have a limited liability sign posted on their front door and the Police, City, State & Court system will let them get away with it.

The vehicles are held for a certain amount of time, then auctioned off if the taxes are not paid, and the towing and storage is not paid. Someone decided that "there not gonna take MY car and get away with that! If I can't have it, neither can they!" And the proceded to firebomb the place. It was revenge.

That's why you need to put a pan of gasoline in the trunk with a motion sensitive ignition source, as soon as the car gets hooked up and towed it automatically catches fire - thus saving the city having to deal with a car lot full of burning hulks instead of just the one attached to the tow truck.

My guess is the city will weasel out of any liability here and CT mustang will go out of business as a result. If you get in bed with pigs, don't be surprised if their stink rubs off on you in the night.
