How come it took so long for the school district to notify parents that there was a PERVERT cruising our schools trying to kidnap our children? My main concern is making the children aware of the dangers of perverts trying to steal them away. SO my question is, WHY doesn't the school district and the D.A.'s office and or the police make time for the authorities of all the offices start making trips to our local schools and not only INFORM but also TEACH our children out to react to PERVERTS? And please before someone starts with NASTY comments, I DO believe that all of this education needs to be STARTED at home due to all of the current families that have so many extended family members living in the home that are actually Mom & Dad's METH buddies..

I am also concerned as to why it took until yesterday for my granddaughter to bring a note home from school telling us about this event. Of course by that time I had read about it in the paper, heard it on the local news and there has been the word of mouth. Certainly if this sicko is local he has to be at our grocery stores, at our gas stations, at our other stores and all the other places we all go to on a regular basis. I now carry a camera along with pen and a pad of paper to note down anything I see that looks out of the ordinary when I am driving around. I have always kept alert when my grandchild is out playing, to keep an eye out for who is driving through the neighborhood. We, as parents need to be pro-active and to discuss this subject with our children as soon as they are old enough to understand. I just wish this information had been out there earlier and surely wish we had a better description of this tan/brown boxy van. We ALL need to be watchful for strangers in our areas even if we do not have children. It is time for everyone to become more aware for the safety of all.

Let's think about this. June-July-August- Sept.-Oct. This is the time frame that this has taken our officials to get patrols out to our schools and parks? L Carr got notified YESTERDAY? What on earth are we paying school officials to do? Shame on them (all the schools in this area should be ashamed of their actions) Excuse me... THEIR POOR NO ACTION POLICY. Parents, as you drive by cars, look at the drivers, look at their cars, look at their license plate and write down if things look out of place. I have started driving by the schools in my area and I hope you do the same. Keep an eye on the kids who walk to 7 11 or the cornor store. Be at the bus stops. Hopefully we can catch this **** before he gets one of ours. I don't want him chased out of our neighborhoods. I want him to rot in prison for the rest of his sorry life. I'm sure this isn't his first attempt and he needs to be locked away.

People quit pointing fingers. They are out and looking. Everyone not just law enforcement and school officials should be out and alert.

Perhaps you should consider the fact that most local school districts were not aware of these incidents because they were never notified by law enforcement. You have valid points, but you are directing them at the wrong agencies.

I can attest to the fact that in at least one local district, steps were taken IMMEDIATELY to deal with this situation once the threat was known. Staff were instructed to be highly visible and vigilant during times students are on the way to and from school, and to record and report anything even remotely suspicious.

Some are also assigned to patrol the neighborhoods around the schools during these times in the interest of protecting the students.

If you must find fault in the delayed response to these incidents, you might try calling local law enforcement and ask them why they did not feel it necessary to inform the local districts of this potential danger.

...and yes, parents need to keep an eye out as well. That means put down the cell phone, slow down and PAY ATTENTION to what is going on around the schools your children attend. The child you save might be your own.

What does it take for the person who received this information at any school to STOP and make a few calles to the other schools in the district? I blame law enforcement as well. They all should be shamed. This Wed. was the first that I actually received a notice. Lame is Lame. Did something happen at Oroville High also? Or is this a rumor? We don't need false claims but if it is true, What are the details school district?? We need to know immediately to be able to stop this sick man!! And believe me I am on the watch everyday and I have talked to many parents who are doing the same.

Well that has been the problem. all I am saying is notify us. We have that right and the Superintendent was in error ( my judgement) from the very beginning. Law enforcement and the schools failed our children .

I was driving by one school last week, the kids were palying out in the school yard, I saw 3 teachers 2 were talking not even paying attention to the kids, the other was on the cell phone for a least 10 minutes. I know this because I pulled over to make calls on my cell and I was there aleast 15 minutes. 2 years ago my daughter asked me to go a function at my grand daughters school, it was recess time and I walk around looking for my grand daughter I must of been walking for atleast 5 plus minutes before a teacher came to me to ask why I there. Here she is a wakie-talkie in one hand and her cell phone stuck to her ear.Now I understand its a job to watch kids at recess some schools playgrounds are huge and kids like to scatter around, but my point if there are 3 teachers at certain areas doing their jobs not cuddled together shooting the breeze. as a parent we should allowed to come to our childrens school to check things out, I did when my kids were school to make sure these teachers are doing their job, they didnt like it at times but too bad they were my kids and I was paying their salary to watch over and teach my kids period.

I believe as long as you sign in parents are welcome to come to the school and check out how their kids are doing.

This is true but they frown on it sometimes. A friend of mine when he has time on his lunch he goes and parks his auto has his lunch and watches his kid play. for the longest time no one bothered with him then all of a sudden they came to him the would perferr him not to do that anymore, he said fine then I would like to go to see my kid in his classroom they told he would have to make an appointment the father said no problem but what he didnt like was how rude they were with him. The father felt wow I feel like my kid is in prison and he has to make a special time, day etc just so he can visit his kid to see how he is doing.I remember years back at emma wilson where my kids went then I was able get away from my business and go there and help the teachers bring supplies for art/crafts etc I got off jobs to donate to the school which was sorely needed.I feel parents have all the right to see what going on with their kids in school see and meet the teachers help "for free" that would take some burden off the teacher Iguess those days are history.

Of course, but what about the parents who refuse to follow the rules? They enter the campus and wander around, sometimes removing their kids from class or at recess without signing them out.

It takes a group effort, people. If you want your kids to be safe, take 30 seconds to sign in/out.

Friday I was at Plumas Avenue School where one of the incidents with the PERVERT first happened, classes are released at 3:03 and I was there at 2:45pm. waiting in my car to pick my grandchildren up, I counted at least 20 to 25 people walk onto campus and wander around without a SINGLE member of the school or office come outside to see who they were or to enforce the policy of signing in at the office. Furthermore, alot but not all the teachers just let the kids leave when the final bell rings, they don't even walk them out front to make sure they are safe. I guess when the bell rings the paycheck stops....

What I am saying is yes one school district did do something, BUT if this ever happens again ,I wish they would take it one step further, and notify the other districts. What would that involve? A few minutes of their time? The law enforcement should be ripped for their part. Also the newspaper should be notified and a report should be in the very next paper. All we want is to be notified immediately so we can protect our children.

I know it would be 'costly' but I really think that it would help to have some type of camera or security camera system up around the schools. For a situation like this. Not to stalk people, or invasion of privacy. Nothing bad like that. Just so that we could help protect our children in cases like this. If we saw this car on video maybe it would us catch this horrible person. We really should start thinking of better ways and better ideas for security and safety for all our schools and children that go to them.

Such systems are "costly", both in terms of initial investment and ongoing maintenance. One local district has 62 cameras installed at three sites, with the latest 3 just installed last week.

Unfortunately, for an incident to be captured on camera, it has to happen in front of a camera. That doesn't always happen.

To answer Concerened in Los Molinos who asked: How come it took so long for the school district to notify parents.......... How come after the OUHSD school board was notified that the Transpotation Supervisior was spending tax payers money to have an affair with a lady who planned to kill his wife did they do nothing? It is easier to cover up than to fire someone.
