Public humiliation of her son? I don't like it. Selling the car is one thing, but the publicity is unnecessary and spiteful. All it teaches the son is that, yeah, mom is the meanest! And if she believes her son, why sell it????

Thank God she is willing to protect her son -- and all the rest of us who have to worry about getting hit by a drunk driver.

Get real, Sad. This is a perfect and wise lesson that her son will learn from and change his behavior. It doesn't matter if the booze was his or not. That it was in the car was enough to violate her rule.

Softness only empowers bad behavior in children. More power to this Mom!

Finally a parent taking responsibility for their child. Kudos to the Mom and I'm sure her son will be a much better person for it.

It is better to publicly humiliate him, in order to change his behavior then to publicly bury him due to his behavior. She must really love him.

I think her and my Mom must know each other. This is exactly the kind of thing my Mom would have done to me, even at 19!

I was pretty PO'd when she'd do stuff like this to me too, but then again (& without any exaggeration) 40% of my graduating class from high school is still doing time for all the "fun" stuff she wouldn't allow me to be part of. At least not while I lived under her roof.

Thanks for being a major pain in the rear Mom! You saved me from me!

People, we are in rebellious times. I wouldn't be surprised if the son took out an ad to sell the parents home.

We'll remember you said that when a drunk driver kills someone you love and someone could have prevented it. Congrats to you for being stupid.

It's not that he was drinking, but that he had alcohol IN THE CAR. That was her rule, and he broke it.

My mother did this to me when I was his age. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. Kudos to his mother. Even though I hated mine for a long time too, he'll forgive her. I know it saved my life. Probably will his too.

Her car - her rules

He broke the rules. She can do what she wants with the car.

Plus it was a stupid CRIMINAL act. He is an underage drinker and cops dont listen to "but my friend left it there!". They write the ticket.

And if he's still living at home while having these "friends" (not buying that one, I also tried to convince my mom that I had "friends" who would do all the stupid stuff while I was the good one....funny how I couldnt produce the names of the friends) then it's just one step away from underage drinking in her house and that ruins HER life.

If he wants to break the law then he can do it in his house, his car and on his dime. Until then, he respects the rulemaker

Good for her sticking to her rules is the best thing to do. I have 2 girls that i raise all by myself and they didnt brake the main rules the small one they did like they didnt do the dishes so they sat there untl the did the dishes. If you set the rules they will listen. My girls are 25 and 23 and they are the best thing i ever did. And now i have 2 grandkid and they have to clean up and they are 5 and 2 you teach them at a young age. And it stick with them.

Im not disagreeing with him being punished. If she wanted to sell the car, that's her decision, but the kid didn't need to be publically humiliated, and Im definitely not gonna act like I wasn't drinking when I was 19 all of you are

This is classic :) All you crybabies up in arms about her poor son being humiliated get a reality check. My parents humiliated me plenty. And, I intend to return the favor. Bottom line, what would the comments be if the ladies son had killed someone while DUI. We'd be crucifying her for not taking action after finding booze in the car.
