This piece was interesting, and I agree with many of its points--even as I follow a list of bloggers whose opinions I find most consistent with mine. I would object to one part. It assumes the newspaper I'm reading it in offers a balanced set of opinions. The writer clearly could not have known this would appear in the Tribune, where balance consists of louder or softer bashing of Democrats, and louder or softer cheerleading for Republicans.

This columnist surely has some valid comments about the effect of reading only the internet blogs and articles which with one agrees. Democracy demands that we examine both sides of an issue, pros and cons alike. Until we have done that, we are not truly informed. I highly recommend this article.

The public isn't as stupid or narrow-minded as elites worry. People are interested in more than one subject, and will always find others who agree with them on one issue while disagreeing on another.

The essence of both the internet and democracy is variety and lack of central control. It's a good thing.

I think Blog changed everything. It is just so much harder to control everything now. In the past, the public was easily manipulated by the media (they still are but much lesser degree now).

But with blog, it is easy to poing out what issue is manipulated or not since there are so many opinions. It gives a different perspective.
