There's no room for history, no room for scholarship, no room for the exchange of ideas. There's only room for blind adherence to the policies of the Israeli government.

History is always best judged when only one side is represented. Do as we say, not as we do is the order of the day.

Sounds like there is not very much Study at the institute of Jewish studies. Sad to see that open discussion of ideas is not part of their institute. They did such a fantastic job bringing Spertus to the greater public with the pubilicity of the fantastic new building and now the next big thing is the shutting of the exhibit, too bad. Of course it is not all their fault, since the staff curated it they must have thought it worth displaying, but they have to get money from somewhere and when things become political, as always, nothing gets done that might actually benefit people.

Shame on those responsible for pressuring the museum to first alter, and then shutter, this exhibit. Your ignorance only breeds continued contempt and tension. Though perhaps it is this tension that helps continue to justify the victim mentality of the Jewish community.

Tough to be an accredited and respected museum when their art must fit into a specific set of donor ideals. Its too bad to, as their shows thus far have been quite amazing and wonderfully varied in their points of view.

Next exhibition will be a competition of who can paint the best start of david. Apply now.

Sad.

You have to keep an open mind and learn things about other beliefs and cultures, even if you don't agree with them.

If you close your eyes and run away from things you never learn anything.

How sad that the only 'solution' for Jews is that the Palestinean people should just not exist...

By that same logic old maps of North America are unpatriotic because they show this country was not always here. Stupid.

sad but not surprising that dissent within the Jewish community can close an exhibit that presents various views not aligned with the party line. Sad indeed. Fundamentalists and hard liners continune to dominate.

If it weren't for this article, there wouldn't have been a lot of notice to this exhibit.

I knew this would happen when they closed to "retool".
I guess only their own Jewish opinions matter. Isn't narrow mindedness and one viewpoint what Jews wanted to escape??

He whose bread I eat/his song I sing.

What an embarrassment. Spertus has all the scholarly cred. of Bob Jones U.

Did any scholars verify the accuracy of the exhibits before they were presented? Probably not!

Glad to see that art is being banned because someone's feelings got hurt.

Let's see.... A Jewish organization presented this perspective to begin with but, due to pressure from other Jews, the exhibit closed.

What do some of you get from this? That "Jews are...close minded" and that they only want "their Jewish opinions."

As a Jewish person living in Chicago I'd have to say that I think it...unfortunate that the Museum buckled under in this circumstance. I - for one, appreciate the necessity of sharing different views on issues. Only through dialogue and education can true knowledge be had.
While I do not - personally, agree with countless assertions made against the State of Israel and would gladly take up arms to defend her from her countless enemies, the higher road is that which we Jewsih people must take when discourse and education is required. For the same reason[s] that the Holocaust Museum is necessary, display of objectionable materials can be a constructive tool to enlightenment.
Dialogue - by all means, but, also be armed and prepared for when dialogue fails.

Now I want to see the exhibit that the "powers-that-be" have deemed unfit for me to see.

Will there be an opportunity to see this exhibit before it closes?

Ahhh, nothing like a visual representation of geographic phenomena to get the blood up to a roiling boil. I'm glad that the Field Museum did not close down the Festival of Maps exhibit because it contained maps produced by Lewis & Clark or others that would bring into question the territorial claims of a nacent United States of America...that was an excellent exhibit. As for the area at the intersection of Europe, Asia, and Africa...I'm sure that the map we know today hasn't changed at all over the past few thousand years.
