Parade's cover story questioned

The reasons given to justify the distribution of Parade are insufficient to excuse the action. The Tribune is ultimately responsible for its content regardless of the business arrangement(s) with its sources. The magazine should have been pulled out of respect for Ms. Bhutto and your readers.

I thought I was in a doctor's office reading an outdated magazine.

Very poor judgement to distribute.

Why are people complaining about this? They would rather have one of her last interviews thrown away? Running it as is was not only a sensible business decision, but gives great historical context and experience to the turmoil that is Pakistan. People today have their heads in the clouds of unreality and unreasonableness. Maybe the Tribune could send someone door to door with an explanation to make the complainer feel better. Get a grip, this is Parade magazine.

I thought the same thing when I read the headline for the story. I'm glad it's being brought to light.

Perhaps readers will now realize that Parade Magazine is just an inferior rag. The 'entertainment' questions posed to its editors on the inside cover are clearly planned and disingenuous, given their syntax and structure. The purported self-help articles are usually mere common sense. Sheehy's interview at least was much less idolizing of its subject than most Parade features. It comes down to the relationship between newspapers and Parade - both parties should have come to an agreement to either feature a very large disclaimer in the front section of the paper, or pull the magazine entirely (my local paper also included the magazine).

This did not reflect well on journalism, but at least readers can see that Parade's 'offerings' are not as timely as previously believed. Live and learn...

I would expect to see yesterday's news, but last month's?

It was apparent immediately that Parade is published far ahead of its distribution. Nonetheless, the cover page is chilling in light of Bhutto's assassination, and prophetic. Obviously, they aren't fearing her now.

It was ridiculous. The issue should have been pulled immediately by the Tribune. If not pulled, the Trib should have explained on an attached insert that this interview was done "prior to the tragic death" of Bhutto. Yes, this would have cost money to do, and yes, Parade magazine had the ultimate responsibility. But the cost is worth it to maintain integrity in the newspaper. Otherwise, it's entering into the realm of tabloid. Stupid, bad decision.

I was stunned to read such an old article in a "news" paper that I once trusted to bring me timely news. It seems to me that The Tribune sold out its customers for the sake of the contract with Parade....

Finally, a voice of reason!

I support running the story, but not without some sort of note or even a sticker or something indicating Bhutto's assassination. It's just shoddy jouralism. I rec'd my Parade in my free copy of the RedEye. I didn't see any editorial note in that paper. Let's face it; it was a financial decision to go ahead and run it as is.

This just proves how much we shouldn't value your opinion. You know nothing about how you connect to the world both over the internet and with you opinion about this article.

Given the time-lines described the Trib was at the very least responsible to post a an obvious alert/note concerning this Parade issue.

Never the less this actually proves that the Parade magazine, although "popular" is actually not very relevant and fresh. Pretty soon this will be the fate of the Trib.

Who cares? Parade magazine is a joke, an infomercial with only nuggets of "real" journalism. Trib probably should have just pulled the whole thing, but that would have cost them some cash.

Hindsight is 20/20, but why didn’t Parade’s editors even choose to put their own explanation following the Tribs? Or they could have put their own situational update there.

For the past several years, the journalist integrity has dramatically declined, not only in print but television as well. Reporters now feel that their personal feelings on subject matter are "newsworthy". The printing and running of this article, and the subsequent decision by the Tribune simply cements my disgust and contempt for news outlets. Perhaps some of these writers and editors should think about how they would feel if the issue involved them.

This is the same "Parade" that features laughably phony questions about celebrities, right? I'm surprised the drones who read that rag were even aware of Bhutto's death.

This was obviously an financial decision, only. And a poor one at that. So it would have cost millions. When there is an automotive recall that costs millions do you object?

I was disturbed by this too. And as much as I wanted to read about the actual interview, I couldn't stomach to do so. Had it said something about her death and current state of Pakistan and then went into sharing an interview that took place before her death, that would have been more appropriate. My faith in Parade has waned as a result.

This is a clear indication of the inability of news media to relay current information. I am in Georgia and I received a copy of PARADE with my local paper. I am deeply offended and distrubed by the fact PARADE did not decide to just accept the financial loss and move on. I would have had more respect for them if they had added a note at the bottom stating the story was written before her death. Sometimes people put an insert in the magazine acknowledging the error. Then again that would be too much like right.
