Fellow employees ratting out their co-workers. This whole scenario was foreseen years ago when the anti-smoking agenda began. This is really non-news. It is nice to see that tattle tales still exist in society.

Good for them. If employees will lie about smoking and falsify documents they may lie and cheat about other things. Plus smokers are an extra burden on the health care system and should have to pay more. I bet if they required a blood test they would catch a lot more. I think more companies should follow suit on this.

Now this ticks me off, being a non-smoker i am constantly
listening to smokers defend their smelly habit, now they
want to reap the benefits of non-smokers, "fire them all"

Shades of pre-WW II Germany. The proletariat ratting each other out!

By the way, just wait until these corporations decide that alcohol consumption, pregnancy, snow skiing, motor cycle riding, owning guns, staying up late, etc., etc., are an "extra burden" on the health plan.

You'll be taking a lie detector test every day!

This is bs. The whole idea behind GROUP health care coverage is that the premiums are spread among ALL employees in the pool, so that those who are more sickly do not have to pay a huge premium while others who do not get sick only pay a small premium. Get it?

I read these comments about smokers and just wonder how many of you drink, are fat, and do not do anything about it. The next thing insurance comapnies are going to do is have weigh ins at work and you cannot lie about them. Yes, fat people that drink and put the rest of society down due to their habits do have an attitude and really wonder how many of you fit that category.

This already happens, used to have a policy that asked, in detail, about hobbies along with the usual smoking status, existing conditions, family history, etc. I checked that I owned a motorcycle and SCUBA dive, with my family history of illnesses and no existing conditions. My brother had the same family history and no existing conditions and he paid about $25 less a month.
Just sayin.
I like my current employer's group plan system with health insurance, which is more or less don't ask don't tell.

Wow, people who actually root for insurance companies. What has the world come to?!? I'm with Sheila and Patrick on this one. Besides, I'm sure all you anti smokers enjoy the tax revenue from the folks you complain about.

You know who should pay higher premiums? The fat people in society. I think these people are the biggest burden on society. You know who you people are. They are the biggest risk for diabetes, hypertension, heart attack, and stroke among other things. Can you believe I'm even seeing fat people taking advantage of the parking in the handicap parking spaces. It makes me so angry. There is a picture of a handicap person on the parking space not a picture of a sumo wrestler. If you people want us to take blood tests, then people who are overweight should get on the scale and have to weigh themselves before they get health insurance. And anybody who doesn't agree with this,is because you are probably the size of my couch.

As a non-morbidly obese non-smoker, I'm tired of my health rates going up to cover people that don't give a darn about their health. I see people all the time pulling their little oxygen tanks behind them while they're smoking, or riding in little golf carts because they got too fat to walk. It's gross negligence to let yourself go like that. I'm tired of paying extra to keep Jabba the Hut alive....
