It boggles my mind that IDOT and whomever else is responsible for highway maintenance in Chicaogland would even THINK of inconveniencing motorists with the double whammy of both Dan Ryan never ending construction then starting this Eden's project. I might as well just quit my job and sit at home. I'm already spending the equivalent of lifetime sitting in traffic, this only makes things worse!

So my husband just bought a car since PACE will be closing the only public transport route he had to work, now he also can't drive there? The stupid thing is the Edens has been empty most of the summer. Why couldn't they have done it then?! I understand that the work has to be done, I just don't understand why it has to be at the busiest times of the year, especially when there are few workers even out on the highways during the contruction. If they all actually did some work it would be over in a quarter of the time.

Good lord. The traffic in the morning is bad enough as is...I guess I'm going to have to go back to my secret alternative route. Although, considering the scope of this project, I don't think it's going to be secret very long.

Such is life in Chicago.

What **** or moronette is running IDOT?

"This is a resurfacing project, not a reconstruction project in which we would redesign the roadway to completely eliminate flooding"

So IDOT is going to have a layer of asphalt laid down over the existing concrete road bed and this giant patch is expected to last 15 years (not likely in Chicago).

How 'bout this IDOT - rebuild the Edens - tear the thing up and replace the crumbling road bed with a new concrete road bed - it will take twice as long to do, probably cost twice as much, but will last at least twice as long.

Life is going to become an absolute hell for a lot of people in a couple weeks. The Edens, espeically inbound in the evenings, is already a nightmare with travel times to the junction commonly over an hour. Closing a lane while the Dan Ryan mess is still affecting the entire area is insane. But why should we start expecting logical planning from IDOT now?

Don't worry, I'm sure IDOT will flow the reversibles inbound in the evenings!!! I can't tell you the number of nights the travel times on the Edens and Kennedy are double going inbound versus outboung, yet the reversibles flow to outbound traffic!

What about the Northern Part of Lake Shore Drive? It's in millions times worse shape than the Edens. I'm tired of my car (and me) taking a beating!

I will worry:
IDOT, the tollway authority are all corrupt and incompetent.

There is so much money to be made while people waste their lives in traffic: gasoline, wear & tear on cars, and eventual damage to the roads that require massive rebuilding projects every couple decades. We'll never see roads that last 30+ years because that would be bad for the economy. Uncle Sam wants you to sit in traffic so you waste your time and money.

And let's not forget to mention the stupid southbound Edens spur-ramp: We are forced to pay a $1 toll just before Waukegan Road, then have so sit in a mile+ long backup, simply to merge onto the Edens! Why does US41 get more lanes than the real I-94?? Typical stupid engineering. Just look at the Hillside/Mannheim strangler. Illinois has the most incompetent transportation engineers.

Even worse, they spend thousands of dollars on signage threatening us with excessive fines and jail times for speeding in construction zones. Look, if a worker gets hit by a car in a construction zone... too bad! Why is a worker standing in traffic lanes? Those workers make obscene amounts of money because they have such hazardous jobs. Yet the state has cameras, secret police cars, and other Nazi tactics to ticket us. Again, it's all about Uncle Sam trying to make money, while advertising and sugar-coating everything with "safety." ...pffft.

Transportation in Illinois is awful. Metra is always late, their conductors are rude and never offer explanations, the CTA is falling apart and slower than a bicycle. Our roads are jammed because of never-ending "projects."

I can't wait to move from this corrupt region.

Yesterday while driving home from Kenosha, it took 45 minutes to get through a toll plaza, due to non-existent construction. But IDOT is going to change some things to make the traffic better, even though they've done nothing to alleviate the situation beforehand?

Who is the genius who came up with doing this at the exact same time as the repairs on 94? Shame on them. Those of us who have to drive east-west past both expressways are getting screwed. Not to mention there is no good way to get downtown. Especially when the trains don't run on the weekends on my train line!

Just wait until they start cutting even more public transportation in November. This region may really hit crisis point this winter when nobody can get around by car OR public transportation.

I'm not sure if people actually realize what kind of nightmare it's going to be on the Edens after these closures. I go from Foster Ave. to Vernon Hills (via Half Day) each morning and it's no less than 45 minutes leaving around 7:30, with a median around 52 minutes or so. I fully expect this time to double. The fact that the spur was designed by a bunch of **** coupled with there being no real north south alternate (even IDOT thinks that) means that my commute home is going to be seriously screwed.

Time to find a job inside Chicago. Then I only have to deal with the El station reconstructions and slower than a snail buses.

The officials seem to be acting as if this is going to be a slight inconvenience for people, when in reality its going to be quite significant. I think it is completely reasonable to assume traffic times will at least double during this project, which means that my average drive home from Lake Cook to Division could be upwards of 3 and a half to 4 hours. I'm going to have to seriously consider relocating or quitting my job. Which is a ridiculous choice I shouldn't have to be making.

I'm not in the construction industry, but I just don't understand why we can't complete construction project before moving onto the next! Why can't we put all of our man power into expediting the completion of the Ryan before tearing up a new road? Infuriating! Time to ger rid of the IDOT leadership team!

Somehow I keep leaving for work earlier and getting there later via the Edens. Perhaps I should start sleeping at work too, that way there will be no commute time. So we have construction, then winter, then construction. THANK YOU IDiOT.

i think they should do what they are doing to the dan ryan expressway to the edens if you want commuters to drive during heavy rain and add a lane or two to reduce the amount of traffic this expressway will hold

this is why we need the crosstown expressway in the first place because we could get to work ontime instead of wating for the edens to open from construction and it would prevent us from sleeping in offices

wow god aren't our roads paided for by our toll system by now wait no they aren't. because someones padding some constuction crews pocket with a 42 million dallar pocket why doesn't the state do it and save them selfs 22 million and that way our tax dallars can go to something more useful like our schools and after school programs. God am i the only one that thinks this wouldn't there be a ton of people that would love to work for the state?
