True but even going 80mph in the LEFT lane while not passing vehicles in the RIGHT lane is against the law. The law doesn't mandate what the speed requirements are per lane (the whole highway, including both lanes, has a speed minimum of 45mph during normal conditions).
However not passing a vehicle, pacing, or cruising in the left lane are all violations under PA State Law. And yes PA Troopers DO and WILL cite you for such actions. Impeding the flow of traffic, improper lane usage (and if an emergency vehicle was in the left lane behind you... expect a citation for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle).
ok fine, but you are breaking the law just as much as they are if someone cruising at 80 in the left lane is holding you up, you should both be cited, and I bet yours is more expensive. ps, the emergency vehicle thing is a non-sequitor, let's not lose sight of the fact you're mad cause you can't speed enough

Should have had a bigger bike that can go faster and you wouldn't get caught

120 mph is approaching "italian tune-up" speed. But such tune-ups are only economical if you don't get pinched. In hindsight, I'm sure this driver wishes he'd made an appointment with his mechanic.

I don't speed past 80-85mps EVER on I-81 (in PA... I go even lower in MD). Going 20+ above posted speed is pretty dumb since your citation jumps (actually it jumps at 16 over). However at 20+ your fine jumps, points jump, and if the officer feels so inclined he/she can also cite you for reckless driving. I'm not condoning speeding at an excessive rate and I understand I'm no saint driving 80-85mph on I-81 at times, however playing the "he/she's breaking a law worse than me" game never has a winner.

i was just pointing out how you were lying about people going 45 int he left lane, the truth is someone going 70 passing someone going 65 makes you made because you have to slow your very important self down from 80 for 1 minute. everyone going 80 on 81 is ridiculously self-important. regardless of what you tell yourself, speeding makes you less safe all things being the same, than going slow. also driving 80 mph uses much more gas, costing you more, and driving up the prices for the rest of us due to more demand. i hope it's worth it to save 1 or 2 minutes off of your trip.

people 81 is the road number, not the speed limit

btw, you're exactly right, that's why you going 80/85 mph is not really better than someone going 120 mph

I used to do 80 at all times on the highway. The problem is that most of you who think you can drive actually can't and the rest are incosiderate jackasses. I'm not against those who speed. I'm against the idiots who cut off, cut in and out and think they aren't going to hurt someone. If you speed fine, if traffic slows be cool, they'll eventually let you by. I've since slowed down because I grew up and realized that I'm on my way to work! Why rush.

Actually for me the advent of the GPS has been my personal cause for speeding. When I'm traveling somewhere that is 30+ miles away, you can easily see the "minutes" melt off. Especially if heading to DC, Baltimore, or somewhere where the travel will be over an hour. You can (in these situations) easily knock off 30+ minutes travel time. Is it still wrong? Of course. But before GPS I didn't speed with the knowledge of just HOW MUCH time I was knocking off.

Going from Exit 20 to Exit 16 on I-81 and claiming you are saving time is ridiculous. But the reality is (as dangerous as it is or not) real time can be shaved by speeding.

and real lives can be lost, real gas can be wasted, real lives can be lost, and most importantly, real lives can be lost

i didn't think anyone would defend speeding today with the tragedy that occurred yesterday and will affect all three men involved, and countless family members for the rest of their lives. but just keep thinking about the "real minutes" you can save since you and your schedule are so important

btw, say you are driving from chambersburg to bwi, that's a distance of 106 miles. if you drive 65 it will take you 1.6 hours, if you drive 80 mph it will take you 1.3 hours (assuming you can drive 80 mph the entire way. driving 15 mph faster saves you a whopping 18 minutes on a 100 mile journey. the funny thing is you won't even be able to go 80 mph the entire way unless there is no traffic, but you would be able to go 65 the entire way. so the savings would be even less than 18 minutes. so burning extra gas, endangering lives, riskign tickets will save you an entire 10 minutes. hope you feel proud of yourself

also in case you were wondering, in order to save exactly 30 minutes, as you claimed on that 106 mile trip to bwi, you would have to average 96 mph, vs my 65. i'm calling shenanigans on you

I can't believe how much I have learned by just coming in here and reading what other people do. Hope none of my friends that I've met in here are not on the road when you all speed and fall asleep.

Legislators should take action to pass new laws that take into account scofflaws who operate a vehicle above 100 m.p.h. and not only take the driver's license but their car. Same as the fool who is busted for transporting dope---take the car.
