Today while I was in line at Wal-Mart. I have noticed like every one else has.. There is not enough people working at Wal-Mart.And while I stood there thinking on how to get Wal-Mart to fill the empty spots that they have open. and I came up. Why dont we take away welfare from the lazy people who are able to work. but refuse to work. because they rather collect their welfare. And live off of my taxes that i have to pay. How can say that they can not find a job when Wal-Mart is hurting for people to work there. Am I the only person who thought of this?

How about this. We identify all those that "refuse to work" and find out why they would rather not work for a company that under-pays it's employees, refuses them benefits, imports management from other locations, destroys the integrity of cities, encourages mediocrity, cares nothing for the environment and openly engages in racial and sexual discrimination. Wal-mart does all these things and many more.
We are hostages of our own short-sightedness here in Carlsbad. Sure there are jobs here. Everyone talks about the great unemployment rate we have, they just fail to mention that most if not all of those jobs are low-paying and part-time non-benefitted positions. Hey here's an idea! Have all the companies and governmental entities cease all pre-employment drug testing. This is an incredibly costly and hugely ineffective way to prevent drug usage in the workplace. These drug tests can be easily beaten by purchasing a "masking agent" from a health food or smoking shop. The fact is, there are people working in Carlsbad right now that have successfully secured employment and are daily recreational drug users. If money were to be spent on salaries, benefits and company support programs instead of invasive and humiliating drug testing, we would see greater job loyalty, less turnover and more job satisfaction. And let's not forget folks, the most abused drug in our society AND Eddy County NM is ALCOHOL. |

the problem with walmartis that the way theytreat their employees is bad. Another thing is customer service is poor. Oh, yeah, people are not hired because they are drug tested and are found positive for drug use. I my self don't shop walmart, their prices are ridiculous. People are so used to walmart, that is the first place they go and spend most of their hard earned money. Why not open your eyes and see how many stores we have, not very many. There are other stores that could come in, but they are all turned down, why?????

WAL MART MAY PAY LOW WAGES AND NOT HAVE GOOD BENEFITS. BUT THAT IT A STEPPING STONE FOR MANY PEOPLE TO GAIN WORK EXPERIENCE. SERIOUSLY DO YOU WANT TO BLAME A COMPANY THAT HAS DONE SO MUCH FOR CARLSBAD.
ANOTHER THINK IF YOU LIKE TO HAVE"RECREATIONAL DRUG USERS" IN THE WORK FORCE. WHY DONT WE HIRE CRACK HEADS IN DAY CARES OR MAYBE YOU CAN HIRE ONE TO WATCH YOUR KIDS WHILE YOU WORK. HELL YOU MAY BE ONE TOO. AND WITH A POOR JOB. |

Every time I've been in Walmart, there have never been enough cashiers. On Sundays, for example, they only have 6 of their 20+ registers open, and each of those has eight customers waiting.
Here's a tip, when it's like that, you can go to the electronics area and check out there. They can check you out wherever there is a register. Also try the jewelry and auto departments. To coin a phrase: Complain early, and complain often! |

for walmart and EX RESIDENT,
walmarts point is true, people are not hired because they test positive for drug use. EX says "ANOTHER THINK IF YOU LIKE TO HAVE"RECREATIONAL DRUG USERS" IN THE WORK FORCE. WHY DONT WE HIRE CRACK HEADS IN DAY CARES OR MAYBE YOU CAN HIRE ONE TO WATCH YOUR KIDS WHILE YOU WORK. HELL YOU MAY BE ONE TOO. AND WITH A POOR JOB." Your hope that if I'm a recreational drug user I have a poor job is just plain cruel. I don't particularly "like" to have recreational drug users in the workforce. I don't like drunks, cigarette smokers, religious zealots and idiots in the workforce either but there they all are. The fact of the matter is folks, there are recreational drug users in our life every day right here in Carlsbad. Not the "crackheads" we hear about all the time, but people holding jobs, raising families and contributing to this community. EX, there probably are recreational drug users working in child care as well as in health care, education, law enforcement, government and most every industry in America. These are the hard facts. We are NOT going to eliminate recreational drug use. Period. It has been Americas most unsuccessful and longest war The drug war is a complete failure and has made criminals out of normal everyday people. These are draconian laws that cost taxpayers millions of dollars better spent elsewhere. |

I say this country/state should start the drug clean up by testing every welfare/social security/AFDC recipent for drug abuse and continue with random drug testing. Test positive? No money, no benefits. Got kids? Put 'em all in govenment ran childrens homes. It would be cheaper in the long run, it would create jobs for drug-free people and the kids would be taken care of and educated a lot better than with their loser parent/parents!

Could part of the problem be that Super WalMart stores are just cookie cutter stores basically? They are the same size no matter where you go. They don't take the size of the community into account when they are putting in the number of check outs. There is never a reason for ALL of those check out stations to be open-unless it is Christmas. Does that mean that I think that they should only have two open at a time? No, it just means that I think it is impractical to think that they would actually open EVERY register just so YOU won't have to stand in line. They need to spread out their express lanes, the self check lanes, and do away with part of the unused registers in the middle to make room for it all. Every store you go to has more available registers than open registers-even Albertson's and La Tienda, and you always have to stand in some sort of line. It's a fact of life.

Yes sometimes you do have ot stand in line at La Tienda and Albertsons but.......... they will call for more checkers to come and help.. As to where W/M just doesn't give a damn if you stand there all day....

It's practical to think that when you have 12 people at each of the four registers that are open, that you would open more registers instead of letting your customers wait 20 mins to checkout. Not doing so is just poor management and poor customer relations. Your customers will then do what I did and take their business somewhere else.
And no, it's not a WalMart problem, but a CARLSBAD WalMart problem. The store I frequented where I used to live never had this problem, even on Sunday afternoons. |

Gourry, your right. This is the sorriest WM in the nation I think. I go to a lot of WM`s and Sams, and this new manager they claim we have is just as sorry as the last one was. Where do they get these managers? 3rd grade? I was there this evening, 4 store managers were standing there watching people line up to check out, nothing was done. Same crap, different day. And the check out lady hadn`t had a smile on her face in a month or so I bet. No thank you, no KMA, no nothing. But what do you expect, a 2nd grader to do.

When Harry Burgess earns his PhD at New Mexico State
not-even-rated University for idiots earns his PhD, he will figure it out and put lazy city worker- dummies at city hall to work there helping to check out folks. Truth is hard to take sometimes, but Prez Bush thinks there might be summpin wrong with "economic" in our country. Ya think? Homey jus want a sammich. Please stop laughing. |

Apparently is is alot to say for drug use in Carlsbad....Yesterday 13 people were interviewed for Walmart jobs, but only 2 could pass drug tests. IT is not the new managers fault that the lines are too long. You must try to understand that his hands are tied...he lives in Carlsbad. This town in known for the drugs, society don't give a flips. Get used to it folks. any ideas on how to fix it?

You all complain about the long lines at Wal Mart but you still stand in it.. I know, it's not like we have much of a choice. Bringing in new stores like Target isn't the answer. Same stuff. Different store.. Fixing the drug problem won't cure anything.. Just make the jails even more full. And not everyone on Welfare is a druggie or crack whore.. Most of them are just lazy.
If you don't like these things, there is only one true way to fix it. Move. Or get over it. It's not going to change, it's just going to get worse over time. |
True, not everyone on Welfare is a druggie or crack whore.. but those who are don't deserve a dime of governemnt money of any kind! Drug test them all! The problem is the attitude, "move or get over it". I'm not moving nor am I going to get over it. Thanks for lighting another fire under my butt! |

On the more important side note: Has anyone had any problems with the SurgeMaster surge protectors from Wal Mart? A friend of mine had her's melt threw the plastic and melt a spot on her carpet. If you have one, please be careful because if it can happen to her, it can happen to anyone.
This wishing person doesn't have a bad idea.. Test ppl for drugs while on welfare and if something positive comes up offer them to either get help of kick them off welfare.. I'm sure the amount of money saved by kicking them off would make up for the money spent on the tests themselves. It only takes a few mins to get a positive or negitive test apparently, have them do it while they file and everytime they have to bring in paperwork to update. Then if they can't take care of their kids, CYFD can get involved. Something for them to actully do around this town with out CYFD actully having to work, ISD found them.. CYFD is just picking up the slack. I would gladly pay taxes to put a child into a disent foster home then my tax dollars going to their druggie parents and their welfare. As for WalMart.. It's not going to change, no amount of complaining will make it change.. Just make you more upset over what pertty much amounts to nothing at least in the higher up managment postions at Wal Mart. They know people like us have no options other then to stand in line 30 mins.. I'm not going to go to Artesia or Roswell for food, or the small things.. Nor will I go out of townvwhen all I need is a thing of laundry soap and motor oil. |

You are all so focused on "the drug problem" that you haven't seen several salient points that have been made.
Recreational drug users are in EVERY ASPECT OF YOUR LIFE!! PERIOD!! Deny this all you want, but it is a fact. Drug tests can be beaten and are beaten every single day. There are recreational drug users employed in EVERY industry in America. You deal with them daily and most likely don't even know it. The jails will be even more overcrowded than they are now if we approach the drug problem with a hammer. This approach hasn't worked yet. It's not likely to in the future. ALL of the scenarios put forth on this board would create a HUGE government bureaucracy. I'd bet that most of the folks responding are dead set against more "big government" Just test those on "welfare"? OK! Let's make the poor old widow that can't work and had no pension or health insurance pee in a cup to buy beans. Now THAT'S America! The 2 biggest "welfare" programs in the United States are Social Security and Medicare. If you want to stop the "welfare" system simply refuse your Social Security and Medicare benefits. |

Everone has an opinion on how to fix the welfare problem and the wal-mart situation. Well let me tell you as an ex-employee of wal-mart let me tell you a couple of things. The reason they can not keep any employees is cause of rude complaining customers like yourselves... All you all do is complain, hey be happy there checking your things out in a timely matter. They get tired of hearing you complain about the shortage of employees and how to improve them. Maybe just try to be polite and don't tell them about you being sick and tired of waiting in line, believe me they know by the look on your face. If your tired imagine them working there full 8 hours hearing all the bull.... you have to tell them and them just smiling trying not to ring your neck... So, what I'm saying try to be polite while your in line cause it could be your mother, daughter, son or grandkids at that register!!!
