I wasn't there, so I certainly don't know what happened or did not happen at that school.
On the other hand, I can say that the modern elementary school setting is not a good environment for any male. If anyone makes any accusation against you of any variety, you are guilty as charged. The parents know that- and so do some of the smarter students. It's tough for all teachers, but for men there's an even greater assumption of guilt and aggression.

I was doing volunteer work at a local school once when I raised my hand to indicate that I wanted silence. One of the girls told a principal she thought I was going to hit her.

Again, I can't speak for this specific circumstance, but elementary classrooms are NOT good places for men- and more because of perceptions than because of reality.

The teacher is put on paid administrative leave and an investigation occurs. It sounds like the teacher was abruptly discharged. I'm wondering if protocol was followed?

Hello. I am not attacking just Mr.Laughlin. He was very overwhelmed in the class. He had no control over his students and yet the school system did nothing about it that I am aware of. Mrs. Nunley sat there knowingly what the situation was and yet she refused to remove my son from the class room. In my eyes Mrs. Nunley said to that if we quit talking about this problem that everything would go away. Yes they got rid of Mr.Laughlin but what about the principle. What is going to happen to her for sitting back and yet nothing got done until i had to get the cops and the media involved. I am just looking out for the well being of my children as well as the ohter kids in the class. Someone has to stand up for our children

YEA,IF HE WAS YOUR KID YOU WOULD HAVE PROBABLY DONE MORE. TEACHERS HAVE NO RIGHT TO PUT THEIR HANDS ON STUDENTS. IF THAT CHILD WAS NOT ACTING RIGHT FOR WHATEVER REASON THE TEACHER SHOULD HAVE HAD A MEETING WITH THE PARENTS.

what am i supposed to do sit back and wait until things got even worse. The teachers have NO right placing their hands on our children for any reason. They wont put up with bulling from children in the schools then why should the childrn have to put with it from the teachers and the principles?

It sounds like the administratior was aware that the teacher was having difficulties with classroom management. If so was the teacher put on a PDP (Professional Development Plan)? If the teacher was in his first year teaching did he have a mentor? These are questions that need to be asked of the administrator.

Yes the administrator were aware of the problem. As far as I know he was placed on the PDP plan but then again that is what I was told. What I dont understand is why they 1: didnt want me to talk to the other parents about the situation and why the other teachers in the scool had no idea what was going on the school. Why is it that Mr.Laughlin got the full punishment when teh higher ups knew he needed help in the class room when they are the ones who sat back and did nothing.

What are we supposed to do as parents. Sit back and do nothing when this kind of behaver happens towards our children. I say we should take things into our own hands. They are so worried about the school staff their lives and there carrers but whos concernd about the lives and future that will take place years from now when our children are grown. This kind of incidents can be prevented if the people are willing to do their jobs right instead of just being ther for a paycheck. These are our children whos paying the prices for the higher ups not doing their jobs right

I have four kids.. All four in the CMS system. And I have to say if this was one of my kids and they acted so bad that I had to attend numberous meetings and then my child had to be forcably removed from a school room.. I would start to wonder,'What am I doing wrong?' But then again my children wouldn't act this way.. They know better then to act this way to adults. There is a little thing I install into my children called respect. My child had better PRAY I don't find out they had to be forcably removed from a classroom because anything that teacher does is nothing to what they will get when they get home.
It's a shame that a teacher had to get fired before you realize your child needs serious help. Maybe now you can evaluate your parenting skills and install some sort of desency into your child. I'm pretty sure your child isn't the innocent victim here. It's obvious your child is very smart, he learned how to play you to get EXACTLY what he wants. I hope you learn from this mistake and make sure this doesn't happen again. Because you were played like a finly tuned fiddle by a freakin 8/9 year old. Imagian what he/she is going to be like in a few years.. No respect for adults.. Master manipulator.. I hope he/she sells cars and not drugs. That's if he/she can actully make it threw high school and collage. Unless you start acting like a parent rather then a friend with power I don't see that having good odds.
BTW, I want to know if this guy starts teaching somewhere else, I have one about to enter the 4th grade I would like to have someone that will demand respect rather then allow my child to walk all over him. This is the type of teacher I want for my child, one that won't hesitate to haul my kid into a hallway if he/she acts up. An old school teacher that demands respect and doesn't allow whiney parents to get in the way of teaching.

I've seen kids that just won't cooperate and listen to their teachers. When my children were small and they refused to go to their room, I would also drag them or physically place them their without yelling or screaming. You can do this without anger and violence.
It's people like you that make teachers afraid to comfort kids nowadays at school with a hand on the shoulder or a hug. There are kids who never get comforted at home and need reassurance from someone in their lives. Good teachers have an opportunity to make a difference in a kid's life but now they're scared a parents that threaten them with lawsuits, media attention, and the law.

I aftree with you Frisky Smith.. I liked it better when the principal gave swats and kids would act right just by the teacher giving them a look. Now teachers give that look and kids would just laugh or ignore it and continue acting up. And people wonder what's wrong with the school system these days..

The administrator would not have spoken to other teachers concerning deficits of a colleague. If others were aware that he was having difficulties it would have been great if they would have tried to help him. That is... if he wanted help. I am curious as to what the adinistrator did do see to it that Mr. Laughlin was successful. Administrators are no longer called Principals the term now used is "Instructional Leader" Is this "Instructional Leader" doing her job. I have been in all facets of education for seventeen years including administration and the buck does stop with administration.

Yes I do see your points in both the comments. Burt first of all im not the only parent with these complaints. I did raise my children with respect for their elders. This is the first time that I have had with this kind of problems. Yes there are very GREAT teachers out there. My other two children have had a great school year with their teachers. If it was my child being uncontrollable to this extreme then why was he never susspended. I talked to a school board member on the phone last night and even he said that what I am doing is right. How can you sit there and judge me and what I am doing when you dont have the whole story. I did go by the rules. I did punish my child when he is in the wrong. Oh and another thing had he demanded respect his class wouldnt of been the way it was. Im notsaying that my child is innocent on every prespective i will admit that. and its not so much the teachers fault had the school system done what they could have sooner none of this stuff would be happening now. the teacher is a good teacher he was my teacher once and i never had any problems with him. Why wasnt he given any help where was the school system when he needed them

Did you read that! The parent complained about the situation and they took their good old time to do something about it. I remember when my children were in Carlsbad schools we had to threaten the state to come down and look into things. I am sure it is still that way. People listen to the parents of these children and listen to the kids.
