The Orioles playing should be no surprise. They are living up to preseason predictions and will end the season in the basement of their division. I hope those who are die hard optimistic O's fans enjoyed the ride while it lasted, but it's time to face reality. As long as the Peter Angelos owns the team it shall be a sub par team. Well Baltimore sports fans look on the bright side football season keeps getting closer day by day.

In mid April, we beat the ChiSox and then took 2 from the Yankees, scoring 20 runs in three games. A week later, when we won 4 of 6, we scored 8 runs in one win and 7 in another. The same players are hitting, they are just doing horribly right now. It's correctly called a slump. With our (IMO) even better starting pitching in May, there's no reason to think this team can't play .500 ball. And as far as the "over the hill and bad minors players" comment goes: first off, I think we did a great job in getting Jones and Scott. Let's not forget that Luke was hitting over .360 not too long ago. Adam is a great CF'er, provides speed when he does get on the basepaths, and has torn the cover off the ball at times. Give him time. The veterans mostly have career numbers that are significantly better than what they are doing right now. The averages/production of Roberts, Markakis, Hernandez, Payton, and even Millar have nowhere to go but up. I have to believe that the run production will increase. |

The Orioles have been going through a rough patch for ten plus years. When does the smooth patch begin?

I think the pitching has shown its promise, but I'm not seeing where we're going to get much offensive output from our younger players (aside from Markakis). I know it's early, but the non-Markakis younger guys have but a handful of HRs between them, and the veterans are underperforming just like they did in 2007. Also, at least half of the starting hitters are these veterans; are there no other offensive prospects almost ready to be brought up? I don't want to scapegoat, but I have to wonder if there's someone out there to replace the Crow as our hitting coach. It seems that Rick Kranitz is getting better results from the pitchers than the esteemed Leo Mazzone, so maybe another hitting coach could get the newcomers and veterans alike performing better than they are now. |

Not a fan of Ripken? Let me guess, you don't care for Grandma and apple pie either? Rainbows? Kittens?
---------- Ripken didn't care if the team won or lost. I did. Cal is all about Cal. He even ignored instructions from managers, and called plays from the field against the managers' instructions. If he wasn't somewhat attractive, or if the team had good leadership, there never would've been a streak, and Cal's stats would've been far better. Yes, a couple of days off would've helped. And I believe the stories surrounding the "blackout" night. I believe the stories about Cal not traveling with the team. I believe the stories of Cal staying in different hotels. And since friends of the family lived two doors down from the Ripkens while their house was being built, I believe the infidelity stories. |

Guys who don't hit, who are currently NOT HITTING, are not in a slump.
What kind of goofy logic are you using to think that if the team hits over their heads a couple of times that they're EXPECTED to hit that way all year? |

Toilet seat have sand paper on it this morning? Geez- if you feel that strongly, move to NY where they buy their teams and cheer for a team that the Orioles will be pounding a couple of years from now. |
|
Now you know how Giants fans react to a season with great pitching and powder puff hitters! Barry Bonds is still available to the Orioles!
|
|
Then why to cities like New York and Boston have several? One every 30 years, why bother. |
|
You mean LIGHT YEARS!! |

The O's will lose 100 games.

Yes, I agree with Jennifer and Roy, everybody calm down. Keep in mind, after 10 years, Os are still rebuilding.

Just checked the new Vegas line on MLB "wins and losses". You can get 25-1 odds on the Orioles finishing with 100 loses from this point. I just plunked down a yard. Seems pretty safe to me. The O's. Always giving in special ways.

Somehow Terry Crowley is supposed to be some hitting guru? I fail to see how a team batting average next to last is a Guru. |

You know after 55 posts on here not one person can see that we aren't necessarily talking about wins and loses. We all know that we are rebuiding but the point that everybody fails to mention and it's very important is that by not having at least a competitive offense, you are going to hurt a guy like NICK M by not having any protection for him in the order. He is already showing signs of frustration by trying to hard to carry the load, by moving him from 2 and 3 in the order. Seriously everybody keeps saying calm down we are in a slump well people that is bullcrap. There are serious factors other then winning and losing and you can already see that in The only above average player that we have.

I agree with you about the "offensive prospects" point. I mean, if they're willing to let Jones and Scott play, then we should be able to call up 2 or 3 more guys if the team average continues to hover around .240. I have mixed feelings about Crow. It seems that he really helps some guys, but can't get through to others. Maybe a change is in order. |

I am STILL a Colts fan. I know you were directing your comment at someone else, but I couldn't help notice whenever I see "COLTS." I've been rooting for the Colts since 1971 when they lost the conference championship to the Dolphins in the Orange Bowl, and they are still my favorite. I could never stop rooting for the Colts. I would root for the Colts if they played on the moon. |
