And there will be stupid people who fall for it. AND expect society to pick up the tab when a flood happens. Anyone who lived here during the last 2 floods we had would know better than to even look at these.

Is this the development just down the road from the antique warehouse on Riverside Dr? Right next to I 240 AND on a flood plain? PT Barnum sure was right.

Not sure exactly where it's located but if it's on the river in that area, well... you know.

I wonder if Riverlink will tell potential buyers of these condos that they are in a flood plain?

How dumb can dumb get?

Things the Asheville Chamber of Commerce people don't want you to know:

People who capsize their trendy little canoes there run the risk of dying from infection if they inhale just a little bit of that water. It has happened more than once before.

And the city has a huge river rat problem that they don't talk about publicly, nor apparently do much about.

And of course the 20-year floods can still happen.

I bet there are very few local folks tripping over themselves to buy one of those things.

Is this old warehouse where that restaurant supply business is/was? If so the elevation is higher than the park and may be located out of the designated flood plain. If it is in a designated flood plain approval would also need to come from the Army Corps of Engineers and they just don't do that anymore for residential or commercial purposes.

What's the asking price for these units?

You idiots. It is built up out of the flood plane or FEMA and building codes wouldn't permit it. And I'm sure they will have to pay for flood insurance to live anywhere next to water since the 2004-5 flood NC has required it on all property neighboring water. You might want to educate yourselves before speaking so not to look like the idiots you are.

Lets see. first it is that it is built up out of the flood plain, or FEMA and building codes would not permit it. Then he goes on to say that they are sure that they will have to pay for flood insurance to live anywhere next to water.

The City and County both have BUILDING CODES that determine where and how structures must be built.

The developers are not just gonna' throw up some condos ..... the codes must apply, and if the code allows the building(s) to be placed there then I would assume that the entire project meets those codes as well as the 100 flood plain specifications.

What do you people care if you are not going to live there?

FEMA has already proved it don't know chit. With enough money, you can put anything anywhere in Asheville...AND speaking of IDIOTS, only idiots would sell to another unsuspecting idiot.

My mother-in-law bless her heart is a collector of all things. She is celebrating her 97th birthday in July.My husband calls her a pack rat.LOL.She still has original AC-T newspapers from back in the 30's and 40's.On up.There was an article in one issue were the riverbanks were being lined with crushed vehicles then covered up with rocks and dirt in order to keep river from overtaking River Rd and the many factories etc. when it got up.You see the Railroad had reinforced their side of the river as not to have it give way as easily. So the only place the water had to go was on he river road side which eroded the land underneath the highways.SO they crushed the cars and dumped them in combination with the rocks etc. and dirt to hold back the river. There is no telling how many vehicles are buried in the French Broad at this very moment. Or shall I say rusting away....

FEMA, isn't that the group that goes in after a hurricane on the coast and helps people rebuild along the shore? NO, they would not let anyone build in a flood plane.I'm also sure there is no one in city or county government that would take a bribe or look the other way if the benifits were great enough.

Only if they are Chevy's!! ha ha Just playing. I believe there in ---gosh, Bryson City or somewhere close to there that they flattened cars and fenced them together to create a wall on the river to keep the banks from eroding. I had forgotten about that until you said this. Maybe that is what Riverlink has in mind here. LOL...All one has to do is look at the old photo's and see that anything can happen with the French Broad. She is mightier than any little hill anyone can build.

They didn't fence them in here. They just crushed them and dumped rocks on top, covered them with dirt and dozed over the top.

The same thing was done on Amboy road also. I understand that the last flood uncovered some.
