Has anyone heard anything about a sexual assault on Beaucatcher Mountain on Thursday night near Helen's Bridge? I know there was a report of one but haven't seen it in the paper. Seems like there have been several attacks lately...hope they find the guy/guys.

this is the second rape i've heard of where the woman let the guy in to her apartment...stupid, stupid, stupid...the other was the woman who met the guy at the hot spot on Asheland and went home with him.

don't get me wrong, rape is bad...but people need to start thinking.

I didn't know about Helen's bridge. As for the call girl Hot Spot thing, well you take your chances.

What I don't understand is why did ACT print the victims address for all the world to see? I know we have laws preventing rape victims names from being released, but how stupid is it to put the address out there. Anyone doing a white pages search will have her name, and Heaven forbid this poor woman could be harrassed or victimized again.

Only the names of juvenile rape victims are protected. Her address, as well as her name, are public record. Check your NC General Statutes..That doesn't mean the media HAS to print it. But in this case, knowing where the incident occurred could help identify the suspect.

Alright then I am confused and ask forum help. I could just look it up, but this is more fun. What about the Colby Bryant attempted rape case in Colorado, where the victims name just slipped out and the judge put a gag order on the lawyers.

Or closer to home, how about the Duke lacross "rape" case where they hid her identity at great lengths, till an attorney oopsied and let slip her name. Followed by a 30% increase in web searches, more specfically searches for he name. I remember that from both Fox news (my fav) and CNN Headline news which both ran virtually the same video, audio, and commentary.

I dont think there is a law against disclosing the name of a rape victim but there (IMO) should be. That said, the media historically protects the name of the victim. Of course, since the AC-T isnt a responsible or ethical media outlet, why should they follow with that protection?

Please note that "complaining witness" means "crime victim" -- including rape. This is the N.C. statute on police public records.(No special protection for alleged victims of rape...)

Notwithstanding the provisions of this section, and unless otherwise prohibited by law, the following information shall be public records within the meaning of G.S. 132‑1.
(1) The time, date, location, and nature of a violation or apparent violation of the law reported to a public law enforcement agency.
(2) The name, sex, age, address, employment, and alleged violation of law of a person arrested, charged, or indicted.
(3) The circumstances surrounding an arrest, including the time and place of the arrest, whether the arrest involved resistance, possession or use of weapons, or pursuit, and a description of any items seized in connection with the arrest.
(4) The contents of "911" and other emergency telephone calls received by or on behalf of public law enforcement agencies, except for such contents that reveal the name, address, telephone number, or other information that may identify the caller, victim, or witness.
(5) The contents of communications between or among employees of public law enforcement agencies that are broadcast over the public airways.
(6) The name, sex, age, and address of a complaining witness.

For the life of me, I cannot figure that tool out. Every criminal is innocent and the victim of overzealous police, and the true victims have gotten what they deserve. Gangsters should be allowed to roam free because Chief Hogan is just using that as an excuse...etc, etc.

I believe I owe you an apology. There was a Fed Up who never registered and the isp was Chapel Hill who was a cop or married to one. He/she was posting about the same time as SIG and I believe I have gotten you confused with the other Fed Up from over a year ago. I believe you were a jr. in college at this time.
