Republicans once again the party of hatred, fear

You'd think I'd quit being an optimist after all these years, but I keep getting disappointed.

Great letter, Bruce.

I really don't know what skewed lenses the above commenters read your commentary through, but I'm guessing Susan Boyer loaned it to them.

What in the world is a lieberal? I have met the writer and I know he is a strong Democrat but I'm not sure what you think he is.

The minister I mentioned is deceased and this happened at a church in East Tennessee. There was no point in mentioning his name since it is unlikely any readers would know him. He married my first wife and me and he had preached my first wife's funeral about six weeks before this incident. I admired him very much and was very disappointed to hear him make statements that he knew were not true.

Talk about fear and hatred campaigns.

It isn't the republicans who run ads telling senior citizens that if they vote for republicans they will eat dog food.

It isn't republicans who run ads telling seniors citizens if they vote for republicans they will have to choose between medicine and dog food.

It isn't republicans that run ads telling black people that if republicans win black churches will burn, they will be forced to the back of the bus, and they will be dragged behind trucks by chains.

Democrats entire campaign playbook is based upon lies, hatred, and fear.

Um, Frank, I've been hearing that sort of stuff only from Republicans as they try to ratchet up racial fears in the run-up to the general election.

Obama's campaign is about hope and changing the culture of corruption in Washington.
Yep my crack is bitter

Hey, I haven't seen any of those ads. What channels are you watching, or are those ads channeling through that antennae in your head?

Those would be some pretty cool ads. That sort of truth in campaigning isn't likely to happen, though.

There is plenty o' the "hatred and fear play" (commonly referred to as "propoganda") on both sides I am sure.

The great disappointment to me is that no candidates (on either side) are going to be "really changing" anything. The old "vote for me if you want change" ploy has been going on for time immemorial. Didn't start with Obama. Didn't start with Mitt (who's out anyway, but used the same slogan).

Our problem is that we're still choosing and voting for "professional politicians". We need a new breed, a new animal. The little guy from Texas (what was his name?) who ran as an independent several years ago was one of the last "outsiders" to run.

Whatever the case, whatever the party , friends we're headed for more of the same-old-same-old as long as we're voting for professional politicians.

Who ever created this post is one ignorant person. Liberals like yourself that continue to support an welfare state are disgusting. The democratic party isn't the party of hate, it's the party of manipulating less advantage people by playing hero to them and then forgetting them when it comes to making policies. The Republican party is comprised of Christians and are also the most charitable party as far as donations and assistance to others. The Democrats just preach about what is wrong but do nothing to fix anything. The party of 'Guilt' is the only way to decribe the democratic party.

To ALL BUSHIES:

They charge the costs of the Bush war to China for our children and grandchildren to pay back, at the same time we can't even provide healthcare to them because they are more concerned with corporate greed and wall street bailouts. Your tax dollars are paying for all that, along with the $600 checks in the mail; isn't that how Bush started out his wonderful presidency? With stimulus rebate checks? It's working out great isn't it? Great for the oil exec.'s and the rich in this country. Remember; your tax dollars and our countries debt is contributing to their wealth!

If you have to pay taxes; shouldn't those tax dollars be spent to contribute to our own country, not Iraq's? Our own people? Fixing our own streets and infrastructure? Our own water supplies? Our own schools and education system? Our own police and fire departments? Our own medical? AMERICA FIRST!

If your complaint is about the size of our government; your wonderful republican Bush is failing in that department also! He has INCREASED the size of our government, created more government programs (some religious), and increased government spending.

THIS COUNTRY NEEDS TO WAKE UP!

Wow.

There are as many Christian Democrats as Republicans, yo. Not that people's religious background has much to say about how they conduct their lives, but this assertion shows that some think that only religious nationalism is acceptable.

Your other assertion, that helping people hurts them, isn't quite what early Christianity stood for.

Either way, it's government's function to protect its people and to create opportunity. If you think it ought to be left to the private sector, then get to work starting charities... unless you think those are wrong too.

This may be hard to comprehend for most liberal guilt ridden democrats but as a Veteran, I can you tell you something from experience. All it takes is to have a few Windowed mothers in Iraq come up to you with their children and thank you with tears in their eyes for ridden them of Sadaam to make you understand why we were there. Of course you liberals will never understand this because your life is only viewed from a square screen with commercials in between. If you look into the eyes of those that have been freed, they is becomes very clear why we are in Iraq and what we did for them. Go ahead liberals and bash Bush and this country but for those that are there, we know the truth and we can see it in the eyes of the Iraqi people everyday.

I agree with you--but the premise of this original post is that ONLY Republicans use hate/fear--which is a LIE.

I am not a liberal but just what did Iraq have to do with 9/11. And if we are going to fight those that did 9/11 then let's do it. But now the neo-cons wanted to go to Iraq. Sorry to say that Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda is alive and well by the blunder of our commander in chief. And it his responsibility not to put soldiers in to harms way. But Bush lied and I will never forgive him on that. 4000 soldiers died on that lie.
