The system is ripe for abuse. "technically" I qualify for a disabled placard. My doctor offered to sign off on it. My feeling is I am not physicaly unable to walk to and from my truck, so why should I get special accomodation? If I find myself needing a wheel chair or unable to breath while walking the 50ft from my car, then I would reconsider.
I just wish the other, possibly, able bodied would be considerate of the truely physically disabled.

You will one day not be able to drive 40 miles per hour. IF YOU MANAGE YOUR TIME RIGHT YOU WOULDN'T NEED TO SPEED 30 MPH OVER THE SPEED LIMIT. WHAT WILL YOU DO WHEN YOU LOSE YOUR CAR AND YOUR HOME AND YOU CAN'T GO ANYWHERE? there is a law about impeding the flow of traffic. look it up . further more you do not go 30 miles an hour in a 45 mph zone or on the highways. my eye sight is just fine and i can maneuver quite well, in fact my fingers are quite adept at calling the highway patrol when i come across road hogs such as the ones you described. If you cannot follow the law then get off the road, ignorance is not an excuse and being handicapped will only fly so far. there are transportation services for nitwits like you , might do you some good to call them.

I am indeed blessed and usually if it is not raining, I park as far away from the store doors as I can- for the 'free exercise'. And I don't feel jealous of those that DO cheat the system. Because it is so sad to be of the mindset that justifies taking one of those spots from an elderly couple that could come by at any time. And I do feel a lot of empathy for the homeless- except the ones with no physical problems at all who could work for one of the day -labor businesses. And all section 8 people are not 'bad', but sometimes they are people who made very bad decisions or did not plan well for their future. And sometimes things DID happen WAY beyond their control. The point is, all poor people are not bad people and all all people who use handicapped parking spots ARE handicapped- in one way or another. Sometimes they don't even know they are handicapped. LOL. With all that said and done, it boils down to you saying that if a person is not physically handicapped, that they are mentally handicapped.

Good for you.

I blow my wig off when it comes to bad mouthing about the homeless and people who are on Section 8. Walked the walk in both cases. I am guilty of stereotyping handicapped people who didn't seem handicapped also, I don't blow up and mouth off about it like I do the other two though when I realized it was wrong. Haven't walked in them thar shoes and hopefully won't. Don't stereotype no more though. Thanks for your comment. You're right, it is stero-typing and it is VERY easy for people to do until something directly affects them. I try real hard to not sit up and judge people because I don't have that right. Looks can be and usually are very deceiving.

You said: "Because it is so sad to be of the mindset that justifies taking one of those spots from an elderly couple that could come by at any time." So, in your mind, because you are elderly it automatically makes you handicapped? I know SEVERAL individuals over the age of 70 who are in much better condition than a lot of 20 year olds. My mother at age 73 would laugh in your face for implying because she is elderly, she is handicapped. As for the rest of your post, I laugh. You are judging and stero-typing. You think you have it all figured out don't you.

I don't think the handicapped permits are restricted to physical impairments only .... it could be someones' heart or a breathing problem.

The way disability is written, and therefore handicapped placards dispersed mental disability also qualifies for handicapped parking. You never know, unless you know the person, but I do know clinically depressed individuals and mildly retarded people that use the handicapped spot although physically they are very athletic.

As for when I am older I will handle things as they come and DO SO RESPONSIBLY which is more than can be said for alot of those on the road.

There are laws. We have to follow them whether we are young or welcoming in our second or third childhoods. There are reasons we have to renew our licenses and believe it or not, it's not the money. In fact, they should require it every year as people's conditions do change and some quite quickly. Anyone not driving within the flow or in relation to the conditions can kill. Too slow is not cautious, it's deadly. That may not be their intent, but they do need to get off the road before they kill themselves or someone else. I understand that for the prideful, giving up their license is, to them, giving up their independence, but what they are really doing, is caring very much about their fellow man and themselves. It's easier if they can accept it as such. My mother had to and she gets everything she needs. Probably because she has grace and maturity and hasn't burned all her bridges.
