A way to fix energy crisis can be found

But wouldn't it save on fuel, highway wear and tear, accidents and pollution? I'm sure we would have to sacrifice speedy service, but don't we all need to slow down? Maybe it would mean fewer jobs, but wouldn't ...

Betty,

Little advise for you. Next time you feel the urge to write a letter to the editor, research the topic before you put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard.

The majority of all freight is shipped by rail for the bulk of its delivery distance. Infact, freight rail is a booming business. Unlike passenger rail.

It costs $27 to ride AmTrak from NY to Washington, DC! How much does it cost by SUV?$300? Railways were done away with back in the 50's/60's in favor of trucks, same with innercity transportation like streetcars run on electricity in favor of buses. In Vienna, Austria it costs a little over $20 for a monthly pass that gets you bus, streetcar and rail transportation within about an 8 mile radius of the city, 24/7, and you can catch a bus or streetcar about every 10 mins within a 3 mile radius. Too bad our city planners didn't have the foresight to plan ahead, they went for urbanization, developement, rather than keeping people in and around the city. Had to build suberbia, took the life out of the cities! Had to build that "dream" of the individual house which consumes a lot of energy but pays a lot of taxes! Bush/Cheney won't be happy until they get $5 per gallon gas and maybe $10 per gallon when "W" attacks Iran for Israel, over there now assuring them he's gonna do it, soon as Gen. BetrayUS takes over CentCom!

Hey bigot, I think you have it backwards. Bush isn't going to attack Iran for Israel. He didn't attack Iraq for Israel. That's just the anti-semites looking for an excuse to blame the Jews. If anything, Israel will attack Iran and do a hell of a better job of it than Bush could do.
Israel took out the nuclear reactor many years ago in Iraq, recently one in Syria and will do the same to Iran.

[QUOTE who="Ghost Dog" Railways were done away with back in the 50's/60's in favor of trucks,[/QUOTE]

Amazing what's to be learned from an on-line expert! I would swear that just yesterday I operated a trio of SD-40 locomotives towing in excess of 12,000 tons of grain! Must be that pesky senility rearing its ugly head again as we're all well aware that ghost-man posts nothing but the truth.

Always entertaining. Gas $5-10 a gallon. How quickly do you expect that to happen? President Bush will be out of office in January no matter what. Is it just your paranoid anti Republican ranting that makes you sound crazy? Israel is not the enemy, extremist Islamic terrorist, backed by terror nations are.
Who kills Americans? Ghost the answer is radical Muslim terrorist. President Bush will be out of office soon, and Israel has never attacked America. Maybe, if were very lucky we will get a president that will not destroy this country. I mean not Hillary, or Barack.
Just try to show a little less crazy in the future.

Ghost,

"It costs $27 to ride AmTrak from NY to Washington, DC!"

I just went to Amtrak's website. The cheapest ticket for one way from NY (Penn Station) to DC (Union Station) is $69. So it is twice as much as you said. And that is for a 3 AM, 4:40 AM, or 6:05 AM departure. Want later than that or the popular 5:30 AM departure? Tickets range from $98 to $194.

The distance from NYC to DC is approx. 230 miles. My car gets 30 MPG. But lets use a 25 MPG car.

230 miles / 25 mpg = 9.2 gallons.

9.2 x $3.75 =$34.50

$300 by SUV? If memory serve me right, the "average" MPG for SUVs is 18. So another equation for you.

230/18 = 12.77

12.77 x $3.75 =$47.89

Still CHEAPER than the cheapest Amtrak ticket!

Isn't math fun!

You sir are just too easy to prove wrong.

Or maybe I am using some ExxonMobil math instead of real math. Or maybe even Vast Right Wing Conspiracy Math!

Ghost,

Further, on your $300 to drive an SUV from NYC to DC, you would need to drive a vehicle that got just shy of 3 MPG.

The worst gas mileage, street legal production car on the planet is the 12 cylinder Lamborghini Murcielago, which get 8 MPG.

So, driving that, it would cost $107.81

Again, isn't math fun!

Ghost,

Oh, and the Lamborghini MPG was for city driving. Highway was better. Would you like me to redo it and drop the cost under $100?
How about this

Maybe people could stop seeing the gas prices and environmental crisis as a democrat vs. republican debate, there would be some progress in addressing the serious issue at hand,

Ghost,

One more smack down for you.

With an 18 MPG SUV, you can drive 1,440 miles on $300 worth of gas.

How About This,

When the democrats get out of the way and allow more refinaries and oil drilling I will stop pointing the finger of blame. Along with RINOs.

You can't get over you political bias. You're ignorant in the sense that you will not change your view no matter what evidence is put before you. Now hug me and love me because I'm a minority, homosexual, trans-gender, hippie, illegal alien, alien, anti-gun rights, pro-abortion DSS worker. All my love!
