nice job city council wrote: Kudos for giving away money to a telemarketing firm in Bath, and throwing some more money to David Brennan too. Way to keep crappy jobs in the Akron area at taxpayer expense. Way to blow money on useless projects while the crime rate skyrockets. Nice job. The more I hear stories like this and compare them to the all the ones I've heard over the years, the more I'm inclined to believe people there don't want prosperity because it would represent change which they are not prepared to deal with. They don't want to have to live next to someone who doesn't look like them or act like them or eat the same kinds of food they eat, etc. The Rust Belt was so used to that protected middle class existence supported by manufacturing for so damn long that it's now gonna take fifty years or more for people to get beyond it. A lot of people won't. They'll never move on. They'll never be able to, and that's sad.

I believe your comments, though perhaps somewhat thoughtful and valid, to a degree, completely ignore the extent and depth of the "pay to play" atmosphere infecting local politics over the past thirty years that many on this board find revolting. There's good reason and justification for that criticism. And such public and open criticism is the core of democratic government. woof

I think everyone is having a hard time coming to grips with is the disparity between wealthy and poor. Eventually what comes around goes around. Read your history and look closely at the 1920’s. The rich in this country are getting drunk off the smell of money. It’s an addiction just like alcohol, or tobacco. They need to have more to feel better. Through manipulation, control, or coercion they feed their addiction, not worried about the consequence, or what it may be doing to others around them. The bottle will run dry, and that time is coming close. For many small businesses the reality is to clear. There gone. It doesn’t matter what you make or sell; if the people you rely on to buy your goods and services can’t buy, then the bottle is empty. If America’s workers don’t unite to save the middle class against this sickness then we will suffer for a long time to come. A collective voice is the only way to stand up. Just keep in mind there is no OA program in existence. Oppressors Anonymous hasn’t been born; all they understand is tough love. Lets show them some.

Big Rob wrote: <quoted text>Unless I read the article wrong, Akron gets about 2.4million right now form the income tax. With the increase of jobs the tax payout goes up. How is that bad? Besides, this company has been helping the University of Akron for years. I believe both of the owners are grads of the U. They are the title name of the new stadium. They obviously have very deep roots in our community. I don't see anything wrong with making business deals to keep major employers in town. Akron is in the process of keeping Goodyear in town, too. Is that a bad idea also? Hmmm, that $2.4 million is from all of the businesses in the JEDD area, not jes' InfoCision. With that in mind, y'all have to consider what the extra jobs bring in taxes and weigh that against the number of years it takes the city to break even on the deal, before any benefit is made. And yes, considerin' the cost vs the return on the investment, it isn't a very good idea.

You could try maintaining a a very large stock of al-cohol in a vacant home just outside the corporate limits, then place an anonymous phone call to city hall disclosing the location of the home, its contents, and the location of key to the door. And maybe throw in a few hookers too. That might work. woof

Rotty, Simply put, your perception of the people who have most aggressively fought the pay-to-play politics which are rampant down at City Hall is the grossest of distortions. These folks, whom I have know personally for years (decades in some cases) are committed to eradicating social inequality. In fact, it is because these social justice activists could never get an audience with the mayor or his administration about urgent local conditions, namely poverty, racism, inadequate housing, etc., that they pushed for reforms in the campaign finance reform laws. Don't you get it? Mayor Plusquellic only pays heed to those who fatten his coffers.

They're not going to get an audience with Donnie boy because he has better things to do with his time, and no one man can fix the problem anyhow. The best social program in the world is a good job. Everyone knows that, and the best way for someone in NE Ohio to get that good job that isn't in the medical industry or in a relative's or friend's business or law firm is to leave the area. That has to change and it could change, but there are simply too many older people and others in the way of that change. My wife and I couldn't wait for the neanderthals to die off. I suspect there are people posting here who can't either.

Shame on me for being so demanding of my male employees. Mebbe instead of hiring well-endowed women for their daily pleasure, I should designate the last Friday of each month as Bring a Stripper To Work Day. Of course, they would pay for it outta their own slaries. I can hear them now: "Deduction for strippers? No problem. Heath insurance deduction increase? Now, wait-a-minnit!!!" No surprise on council's deal with Infocision. Other than their brazenness. Telemarketing is the work of the devil. The devil, I say!!!

The City partnerd with Bath Township and the county on this project to create direct jobs and the indirect jobs of medical staff and child care. This also goes with the $40,000 salary. Lets see 200 hundred employed from Akron is what $8 million. That sure sounds like new money to me to help the needed tax banks and city and school improvements. Not mention police and fire services. So who got rich on this deal? The people of Akron.
