Just a thought, but maybe there should be age classes for the women skaters. Anyway, it seems a bit odd to bestow world titles on young teenagers.

They do in the "Adult Track" and yes I agree with you. One can't help Mother Nature. Unfortunately, some women suffer her wrath more than others. i.e hips, height,... Kimmie is beautiful, her body shows that in the far furture, once her career in figure skating is over, she'll be able to reproduce and make her parents grand parents. http://thetripleaxel.blogspot.com/

Thank you Candace for a truthful article about the sport of figure skating. Somehow the demands of this sport must be looked at to include beautiful skaters in competition. What good is it to have fourteen year old winners who can't go on to represent the United States because of age? Lets bring on some artistry and a few less jumps. It certainly is more pleasant to watch.

Sasha was always in consistent. Her growth spurt is an excuse. Kimmie got lucky winning one world title during the weakest field ever at worlds.

She did experience physical problems due to growth patterns that kept her out of some competitions. To have competed would have risked serious or permanent injury. I would hardly call someone who placed in the top 3 in every competition since 2003 "inconsistent." Yes, there were programs with mistakes and many focused on her mistakes more than the mistakes of others, but seldom does any skater perform a completely "clean" program. I do agree with you that Kimmie got lucky at 2006 Worlds but I don't agree that it was a weak field. Any field in which Sasha competes is not weak. Kimmie placing 7th at Nationals after being 1st last year is inconsistency. However, she's a tough and disciplined young lady and I wouldn't count her out.

I think Kimmie won worlds before she was ready. It was kind of a fluke that she won even though she skated the best program that day. If the other skaters had performed up to their usual standards, Kimmie would not have won and would have continued to progress in the skating world without all the media attention and stress with trying to stay at the top when she really wasn't ready for the top in the first place. That's not a hit on Kimmie. She's a good skater but maybe just not a great skater. If she hadn't won worlds and then the US Championship (in a very, very weak field), I don't think she would be getting the criticism she gets. She's always been a better than average skater but maybe not world caliber yet.

I agree with you totally- nice girl good athletic skater- not fully prepared artistically or mentally for true world title. Mary from Maryland wrote: I think Kimmie won worlds before she was ready.
