"A marijuana advocacy group is set to launch a new television advertisement in California promoting the drug as a solution to the state's budget woes"
it's called a PLANT, not a DRUG. and YES, a PLANT can bring CA BACK!!:) |

Horseshit, Legalizing this crap is the same as giving Amnesty to the friggin Illegals!!!!
What part of ILLEGAL dont people understand ? |
I think that billion dollar figure is a bit low. California should legalize pot immediately and tax it as much as tobacco is taxed or even more. This way pot smokers can purchase it at state regulated dispensaries or even in liquor stores without the fear of getting busted, the quality of the pot could be regulated, the state would makes a lot of money and it would save at least as much more by not having the cops wasting time on pot smokers, and it would free up our courts as well as empty our jails and prisons of people that have hurt no one thus saving untold millions of dollars more.

Talk about a sin tax!

About Time! And i totally agree. It would free up the courts, keep kids from losing fed grant money for higher education, and it would be 1 step closer to ending this Billion Dollar civil war disguised as "The WAR on DRUGS".
This War on Drugs is way to costly and way to violent to keep it going. Restorative Justice programs could be established and we would have a much more peaceful world and more abundant. Stop supporting the prison industrial complex, that is destroying our communities and our families. ITS A PLANT, NOBODY has EVER DIED from its use, and pot smokers are the most non-violent folks on the planet! WHY is it ILLEGAL! Peace -Out |

Mike C. is right. It's not medicine, really, for the young people that get cards. But people use it to cope with pain. In that sense, it's an alternative to opiates that makes sense. Legalize it, tax it, and be done with it.
Wow that was a really well thought out rebuttal supported by factual evidence. |

1 Dear horseshit for brains, if made legal, marijuana no longer is illegal; same with amnesty for undocumented workers. Just because something has been illegal in the past does not mean it can or it should continue to be in the future. I know you don't believe it, but change is not only inevitable, it is all that is happening. |

We'be been fighting this fight for decades now. I'm 55 years old, and hope I will still be alive when Marijuana is FINALLY legalized! Even though I don't smoke it now, I used to. I'm still a fully-funtional human being and have never been in trouble with the law. The money we waste on keeping Marijuana illegal is astronomical. I would like to see an initiative placed on the ballot year after year, until it's legalized.

Though totally differentiated from MMJ, recreational use should be judged from a different perspective. Weighing the negative with the positive.
But treating any person who perpetrates no harm to anyone as a criminal just doesn't seem right. Laws to negate negative consequenses need consideration too, but this war on marijuana only costs the taxpayer and just looks fruitless. Laws change all the time. Decriminalization of this substance would only revert to laws in place just 72 years ago. The concept of a "gateway" drug is without merit. There are an estimated 100 million people who have used marijuana in there lifetime here in the USA, but only a small percentage also use harder drugs except alcohol. The time is drawing near for prioritizing police protection to safeguarding indiviuals from others and get the real criminals off the streets. The time is now to Leagalize Freedom! |

You might want to ask yourself WHY cannabis is "illegal."
Educate yourself. It's the only antidote to ignorance.
You are once again broadcasting your ignorance. If what I wrote makes no sense to you then you need to go back to fourth grade and learn how to read properly. |
Umm.... it's only illegal UNTIL they make it legal, right? Do it, let's tax the smokers and make some money and get out of this recession! Everyone will be much happier!! Don't be a hater ~
the il part of illegal. |
no no no. please stop with these moronic initiatives because every time one of these initiatives passes, the state goes more broke. please stop with the initiatives. |

There really isn't much difference between marijuana and alcohol. The differences that I see, seem to make marijuana the lesser of the two evils. If you think that marijuana should be illegal, then alcohol should be too. I am in Law Enforcement and can honestly say that I have never been to a call where people have been fighting while smoking weed. I have been to many ( too many to count ) calls where drunk people were fighting. I have been to many bad car crashes involving people that were drunk, some were high speed crashes. I have only been to a couple of crashes involving people that had been high on weed and they were low speed crashes.( when people are high on weed, they tend to drive slower) We have all seen the mean drunks who pick fights with anyone, including their families, boyfriends, girlfriends, wives, husbands, etc. I have not seen someone high on weed that acted like that. Some say that marijuana is a gateway drug, what makes you think alcohol isn't if you believe that philosophy? alcohol damages brain cells and livers. marijuana damages brain cells and lungs. cigarettes damage lungs and cause cancer and they have the addictive drug nicotine in them. Yes, the law is what it is until it is changed, so I will continue to enforce the laws as they should be. Although I expressed my opinion that you read above, I do arrest a lot of people for marijuana related offenses.
As a L.E.O. you seem to make a distinction between "marijuana related offenses" and causes of criminal behavior. I suppose this gives you a leg-up on the debate here. |
He is just pointing out that far, far more crimes are committed by people under the influence of alcohol than those under the influence of marijuana. He is correct. Make marijuana legal and some crimes will plummet, namely possession of marijuana and gang related crimes where pot is involved. |
Marijuana is quickly becoming medicine in the eyes of the law. However, like all prescription drugs, it can be abused and has undesirable side effects. I find it disturbing doctors give marijuana cards to young men who don't need pain medication. These "Dr. Feelgood" types get $150 for the consultation, and $50 for their "prescription" to continue every year.
