Ya can't whack all the Republicans like that. You'll need something a bit more potent than Quell and a pair of tweezers!

All I can say is eeewwwww!!! The place is such a rip off. 500.00 per kid plus they push all their products on you. All the mothers I know who have had to deal with head lice (myself included) can testify that you can do the same thing at home for about 15 bucks. The place is very pretentious and the help is extremely rude. The decor is very plush; you can see where your dollars go. I would suggest spending 15.00 and doing it at home and make a 485.00 donation to some charity instead. There is no parking and the meter maids are out in force. I am not cheap ... I get spa treatments weekly, and have a dog walker 5 days per week; but I know a scam when I see one. I love the neighborhood ... Nest is at the corner, The Clay Theater is across the street, and Aumakua is right next door. If you feel like spending 500.00 per head, The Hair Fairies is the place for you. I spend my money at the great shops in the neighborhood instead. I hope to never be visited by head lice ever again, but if I do ... Walgreens is the place to go ... much less toxic and more shopping money for Fillmore street!

I've made this for years and it works like a charm. This recipe does 2-4 kids depending on age and amount of hair. 8 oz Olive oil (any kind) 4 oz Tea tree oil 2 oz Jojoba oil 2 oz Oil of Evening primrose Mix well and pour into in a large hair color applicator bottle. Apply to roots first, making sure entire scalp is covered. Then work through the rest of the hair to the ends, making sure hair is well saturated. Cover head with plastic shower hat. Leave in place overnight or at least 6 hours. BEFORE wetting hair, apply a small amount of baby shampoo and work through hair. Rinse and wash a second time. In STRONG light, direct sunlight is best, separate wet hair into 4 sections with clips or rubber bands. Starting at the back, and working from the bottom up, search for nits and dead lice. A lice comb is okay, but your fingers work best to remove nits. When you find a nit slide it down the individual hair shaft and pull off. I like to pop them between my thumbs, but you can just dispose in a small bowl of water or on paper towels Go slowly and make sure no nits remain. If you are careful you won't need to repeat this. Since no nits will be left to hatch. Bag all stuffed animals, soft toys, and pillows. Wash all linen in hot water. Don't depend on hot water to kill lice in pillows, I have found live lice in pillows that had been washed and dried 3 times. Just bag them for 2 weeks. For other surfaces you can use lice spray but be careful to vacuum well after you spray. Don't forget furniture, car seats (baby and regular vehicle), high chairs, hats, coat collars, throw pillows, hoodies, and all combs and brushes. Although I can't swear by it, for some reason we seemed to get lice less frequently when we used Aussie Mega Shampoo and conditioner. It may be because of all the botanical ingredients.

inexpensive route first. Get the conditioner lice treatment - it detangles - you can leave it on while you go thru each hair with a nit comb. and spray everything down with lysol - same ingredients as the lice spray. it's also a good idea to wash bedclothes and jackets, etc. run brushes, etc thru dishwasher. a neighbor went the full on attack and took at least 3 rounds and chopping off hair to get rid of them. if your kids go to school or daycare you also need to follow up and make sure they are checking EVERY kid. you'd think they would but they don't.

The Hair Fairies lie about insurance covering their treatments. They charge an arm and a leg for something anyone can do at home: inexpensive route first. LEAVE YOUR WALLET AT HOME !!! Don't get me wrong, they will remove the lice, but they charge by the hour and stretch the procedure out well beyond the time required -- all the while making unfounded claims about their products, which reportedly interfere with the head lice nervous system and reproduction. The products themselves are nothing remarkable. They are basic stock formulations private labeled by Trademark Cosmetic Laboratories in Riverside, CA. If you purchase one of these products, be prepared to shell out nearly $20 for a $6 shampoo.

The place is a dump. If you don't have head lice now, you can get them there. 500.00 my ass! They had an outbreak of body lice (crabs) a couple of months ago.

I think you people are nit picking here. Lice don't jump. Anyone willing to pay 500.00 should do it if they want to, it's their money. The Hair Fairies must be doing something right, they are a big nationwide chain. I did my own kids, it was easy! But if I had 500.00 per kid, I would have gone to Hair Fairies instead.

This is silly. There can't be such a huge head lice problem in San Francisco. If there was, wouldn't it be in the news? I had crabs when I was a teenager. Does the hair fairies work on adults too? are head lice the same as body lice? Aren't they all crabs? 500.00 is a lot of money especially if you have a big family. There aer plenty of rich people in Pacific Heights but I didn't think they would be the ones with crabs. I think maybe this whole hair fairies thing is one of those urban myths. nobody is going to pay that kind of money. I bet it is a joke. This would sound believable if it we in the tenderloin or bayview but not in the rich peoples hood. NO WAY IS THIS REAL!

Attention Parents!! Did you know that the leading lice shampoo contains a potent pesticide called LINDANE, which has been know to cause vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions, liver damage and many other health issues with our kids. LINDANE has been banned in 18 countries and severely restricted in 10 others. Why are we using it on our kids' heads? The health of our kids is at stake, don't let them be exposed to this sometimes deadly treatment when there is a natural, safe, non-toxic, chemical free and effective way to prevent and treat lice infestations. Let's get rid of these pests once and for all in our community! LET'S DO IT FOR OUR KIDS!! GO TO RAINBOW MARKET or any good heath food store!

I am very familiar with headlice having been a childcare provider for about 13 years. The private services are ridiculously priced, though they do offer the one service that is most tedious and important: nit picking. Every other step is essentially the same in price and time no matter what method you choose to use. There are natural remedies and what are referred to as 'chemical' remedies, which is what you will find at Walgreens and grocery stores. NIX is popular and is effective in killing adult lice, and killing some eggs. The eggs are the real pests (also known as nits) and need to be removed one at a time, and perhaps this is why the private services feel justified in charging so much. It is very time consuming, focused, detail-oriented and needs to be done several times to ensure that all nits have been successfully removed. You can learn to do it yourself and do not need a 'nit-picker' to get the job done, but again, it is time consuming, and I think that is the main reason people often turn to salons. But $500.00??? LOL

Ah,$500 is ridiculous. Just go to the store and get the cream, and while that is soaking in, clean/vaccum everything in the house. In a few days (I believe) repeat the process.
