Yea its definitely is common. I dont think i know any asian who doesnt wear glasses due to nearsightedness.

It's clearly a genetic thing because i've done heavy reading and been in front of computer screens for many years (at least 16 hour days) while going through medical school and i have never needed glasses of any kind. My girlfriend (who is of Chinese descent) has needed glasses ever since she was born and she agrees, she doesnt think its because of studying habits (or sitting in front of the tv too long) but more genetics and possibly diet.

I've read that in asian countries it myopa is as high as 90%. That is insanely high! And quite the money making machine if you are an optomitrist.

The other problem for certain groups of Asians is the heavy inbreeding.

When you have more genetic diversity, it is harder for such a negative trait to become so prevalent. When you are having sex with your sister or close look-alike, then certain negative features can become extremely prevalent, like Myopia.
