Some homophobia is self-phobia: Study

I think it's pretty common knowledge that many homophobes harbor secret homosexual tendencies. This study not only confirms that, but adds the role of authoritative families into the mix, which makes a lot of sense.

It will be interesting to see more details of how this study was conducted.

My response to this article is a resounding, "Well, duh!" No adult who is comfortable with their own sexual orientation has an issue with the sexual orientation of others. That's a no-brainer.

Homophobia is just a knees jerk reaction of a man trying to convince himself he's not gay at all.

Religious homophobes are the worst. I guess they believe they get brownie points with somebody if they persecute others for what they perceive to be their own worst sin. I have also observed that many times people who go out of their way to prove to others how much they believe their religion are really trying to convince themselves of its validity. They are usually the "bible thumpers". I believe the self-loathing and self-deception factors multiply the effect. It's sad what some of them do to themselves as well as to others.

This study proves nothing but that good parenting is effective and you CAN train your children to be heterosexual. I know you gays think you have to be "true to yourself," but that often just means indulging yourself, even with your worst traits. Good parenting also stops people from acting on the impulse to strangle someone who irritates you or stealing something that you want and can't afford to buy. Gays, who keep claiming that they are "born this way" and that they "can't change their sexual desires," should be running and screaming from this article, not posting it on a gay forum. It only proves that lots of people may have some same-gender attraction, yet they are able to control themselves and live the kind of lives they want to live - normal lives with marriage and children that are the true off spring of both the parents. Lots of people have good parents and still commit truly unspeakable crimes. Under the right circumstances anyone could take a life, or be compelled to steal. Even you. It means they're living a lie. I don't like the closet analogy, because it isn't accurate. A more accurate one would be a mask. These people are wearing masks. They might be married with their own biological children--but are they happily married? Is a dying or dead marriage, is an openly hostile marriage, better for their children than no marriage at all? Why should -ANYONE- have biological children in the first place? For the sake of having them? Simply calling yourself heterosexual, simply pretending you are, doesn't make it so. Sleeping with someone of the opposite sex doesn't make you heterosexual either if there isn't a genuine attraction there, Snick.

The truth is, not everyone wants children and not everyone wants what many browbeaters would consider a "normal" life. I certainly don't want a "normal" life. Why should I, or anyone else for that matter, aspire to be "normal?" What's so great about it?

If the pro-gay are going to tout this, they are in for a vicious fight. I support this study and these findings; I have had my suspicions about the antigay and the homophobic. But the pro-gay should be aware that the antigay and homophobic *viciously* dispute findings of this ilk -- so viciously, in fact, that their basic go-to is to make fun of them, so savagely that (if you haven't encountered it) you can barely imagine it.
