Jealous much.
There's no reason to be jealous of some nut sitting on the railroad tracks who prefers star gazing rather than finding a cure for his own fatal disease. I pity the fool.

Hawking has his priorities all wrong!

Here's a hypothetical question: IF you were a 'brilliant genius' and the doctor told you that you had a medical problem that would cause you to gradually lose the functions of your muscles and lead to your premature, what would YOU do?

I can tell you what I would do. I would drop all of my other projects and I would focus on conducting medical research by reading all available medical journals and then testing various methods, proven and unproven, to try to invent a cure for the disease!

But there's Stephen Hawking sitting on the railroad tracks, gazing at the sky with a telescope, and refusing to do anything to move himself from the freight train that is heading straight for him! Excuse me, but he's a fool and I pity the fool for his foolishness.

You're amazing. I think you should email Hawking right now and share your brilliant insights about how he can use his knowledge of cosmology to cure a neurological condition.

What a shame Hawking didn't take your excellent advice, instead of wasting his career making significant progress in theoretical physics, benefiting future generations of researchers. How very selfish of him.

One mans interest and passion could never be henpicked by anyone or himself. It's not a choice but rather a compulsion and it is involuntary. He won't excell otherwise.

What a unique mind you have. I think you should contact Professor Hawking immediately and point out the error of his ways. Let him know how you feel that he, a physicist, should be figuring out a cure for motor neuron disease. I'm sure you'll get positive feedback.
Well said.

Those that condemn, ridicule and insult those that speculate and ask questions are fearful of facing the plausibility of their beliefs. Religions such as Christianity ask no questions, only claim knowledge of the unknowable...and the more science advances and pokes holes in such beliefs, the more hostile and fearful they get.

What 'significant progress' did Hawking do for you or me? Nothing.

Did his stargazing theories make a more fuel efficient car? NO.

Did he find the cure for a disease? NO.

Did he even invent a better mouse trap? NO.

Hawking is nothing more than some stargazing nut sitting on the railroad tracks. I pity the fool for his stupidity.

To be honest I think Tony isn't actually a serious Christian - he's just here to troll for attention. I should probably stop feeding him now (though it was fun to watch him jump for the morsels).

I agree with your main point, nevertheless. Any rigid belief systems is bound to be threatened by scientific advance sooner or later.

Only on YouTube, sadly. The first Doctor Who episodes I remember seeing as a child were the Peter Davidson ones.

Well spotted BTW.:-)

There's a reasonably decent review of The Grand Design here, if anyone's interested: http://www.topix.com/forum/religion/atheism/T... .

There's no need to show everyone how jealous you are of Dr. Hawking.
