Dr. Johnson should rally not be making statements until we hear what his wife has to say (assuming she can ever speak again, ain't that convenient, doc?)
We want to know if the police checked his phone records to see if he invited her over. Also, were his prints on the pickax? Isn't that an odd weapon of choice for her to bring over if you intend to harm someone?? Isn't it odd that he just did not turn off the ringer and instead unplugged the phone? Is this the only man in the world without a cell phone? Shoot first, ask questions later. If you are so afraid that you need a restraining order, you would have a phone near you at all times. Seems like if you wanted to set up something like this you would be making just the sort of comments he is now making. Otherwise you would not be saying anything. Too confident. If you fear for your life you carry a gun but not a phone?
Sounds like a bad investigation took place here.

A battered man shares experience of domestic violence
The words domestic violence may conjure an image of a woman abused, but many victims are men.

Reed, what a thinly veiled excuse-maker you are. How good of friends are you with her? Why don't you read the restraining order on file with the court (public document) before you open your pie hole. It seems this RN has a long, long history of chemical dependency and violence. In fact, her commitment to helping her fellow man seemed to fall just a bit short unless elder abuse is your thing.

ask yourself where she got the Rx meds she was addicted to. who was keeping her addicted. There was no hearing on that request for a restraining order, so the statements in it are nothing more that his statements with no proof behind them.

I have to agree with Reed. Where was his cell phone (a professional dentist)?? If he needs glasses, why wern't they on the night stand. He found the gun all right. He knew it was her because of the screaming, he could see the pickax, but not her? He wanted to shoot her finger, oh please. No mention if he confronted her verbally, first. How would this be handled if he was unemployed Joe Blow? Now the long suffering loving husband is bearing his soul to the press and also waiting to see when she will "be released". Sounds fishy.

So I guess the statements of their daughter mean nothing. Some people can be helped, but many can't and unfortunately they drag their families into their private hell. I don't know whether this man was justified in what he did, but you can bet that if I were awakened in the middle of the night by my door being kicked in, the last thought on my mind would be to get the phone, or my glasses. I would be in survival mode (i.e., i would arm myself with whatever is in reach). He did not have a duty to turn and run, but he definitely had a right to defend himself if he felt that his life was in danger. Her past behavior is good evidence that she wasn't there to makeup with him. It's a horrible situation.

So, are we going to afford men the same opportunity as their counter parts? Shelter, food, medical care, etc?
Ps Ear protectors will help too! |

wow... i think this is why they shouldnt have released much information yet... eveyrone is criticising both sides, when we really dont know the facts.

I guess now she understands the term "restraining order" - Good shooting Doc- aim about 3 inches higher next time!

I agree in the criticism of the police in this one. Investigation sounds poor to me. They need prints and phone records before jumping to conclusions about this "poor man." If he were black his butt would be in jail - ask Renato Hughes about that one. This is a dentist and a white man, so the cops believe him. If he did want to get rid of her, doing the restraining order first sure makes a lot of sense. The story of the phone is just a bit too fishy here. Think about it people. We all have cell phones. We all have ways to turn the ringer off on the land line! Also, I agree this guy would keep his yap closed if he was really innocent as he claims. The talking and the praise of the police seems fishy too.

I agree to much info already.
I do not understand WHY???? he took the abuse? Love is one thing, but stupidity is another! Could he have prescribed the meds? Watching her self destruct, to plan his "out" this way? Who is the real victim here??? Sure we can all speculate, it's easy to blame. Now really do we believe EVERYTHING we read in a Lake newspaper??????? I, we, YOU do not know, so lets wait to see..... Let them both have there day in court! |

Department of Justice needs to be involved because LCSO bungles too many cases. Dr. Johnson is no innocent victim here. He's a mean old coot who pumped iron regularly. She's a petite redhead with a gunshot in her neck. Hello?

I think the larger issue here is that LCSO should be taking another look into what was probably a symbiotic relationship gone sour. It would be interesting to find out what the first Mrs. Johnson has to say, if she's still alive, that is.

So funny how everyone is bringing their own baggage to this issue. This is akin to a digital lynch mob...the war of the sexes apparently rages on in some people's minds.
Some men abuse women, some women abuse men. DOJ, pumping iron or having red hair has nothing to do with it. But it would be preferable to use mace than bullets to restrain someone who has a psychotic episode. |

Oh, it's just hilarious, isn't it? I do agree with your summation, however. This geezer layed in wait armed with a restraining order and a gun and conveniently lost his glasses and connectivity to the outside world while he took a pot shot at his wife whom he knew would be antagonized by an RO. He's no dope, he probably figured he could get out of alimony if she took the bait. I hope she gets herself a damn good lawyer. |

I feel if he was truly in fear of his life as she was wielding a pick axe, and if he had any compassion for the woman he loved at one time, another way to get control of the situation could have been found rather than shooting her with a gun. |
My point exactly, especially when you might expect trouble...keeping a gun handy is not exactly the right way to deal with an angry or even a rageful and abusive ex (wife or husband) unless the ex is a 500 lbs rabid gorilla. |

I guess I didn't make my point exactly clear: I am not for using guns unless on a war battlefield, I believe there are just as effective and more compassionate (non lethal) ways to deal with crazy and even life threatening behaviors, and there are too many trigger happy individuals in this nation. Having the law of self defense on one's side does not necessarily make it morally right to shoot someone.
This said, I am also against abuse, by men or women. And from what I read so far, which means from very limited knowledge, it seems this women was doing the abuse, no matter how red her hair or how petite (Napoleon was also small). It is as erroneous to assume a man is at fault when a woman becomes abusive towards him as to believe the reverse. Some people are full of rage, violent and brutal, and it has nothing to do with what's between their legs. |
