A Letter To Darwin - Here's What Has Happened In The Last 150 Years

Full story: www.scientificblogging.com

Let me introduce myself. I am one of thousands – maybe tens of thousands – of professional biologists who work full time on your scientific legacy. You’ll be happy to know that Britain remains a powerhouse in what we nowadays call evolutionary biology, and your ideas now have wide currency across the entire planet.

What would Darwin think of the improvements in our understanding of evolution today?

Jerry, CC your letter to the state capitals in Texas, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, and no doubt Alaska. None of them will embrace you.

Yes.. but

Our home planet Earth is alive
Events do work together and stepwise
Predictively as seen by annual series
Seasons, migrations, and life real otherwise

Land and water, freshwater and seawater
Life support, O2 and CO2 utter
Clockwork orange why do you bother
Bake your buns -- ready to butter

People have lovely voices and faces
Love to sing -- songs o'their paces
They cook to feed different dishes
Their loving kin in lovely cases

You will find this hard to believe, but more Americans believe in the existence of heavenly angels than accept the fact of evolution.

That, above all else, scares the *hell* out of me. Only Angels I am sure of, are Johnny Depp, and Orlando Bloom.

Someone show me in the Bible (I must have missed it) where the Dinosaurs were. <shrugs> I am still working through the very idea of whales having had feet, yet sharks pretty much seem unchanged.

As Always,

Don't you know, regardless of what all the official literature says, angels are our passed relatives looking out for us!

That letter was not only well written and understandable, it was thought provoking. The more that is known about how the natural world is interrelated, the more we can protect and preserve our own and other species' existence and environments.

Florida panthers were on the brink of extinction and genetic-linked anomalies caused breeding success to be very poor. Because Texas cougars were closely related, breeding the panthers with them enabled populations to rebound as genetic fitness was restored. Darwin's curiosity and observations helped lead to solutions like this one.

I do agree, my mother is an Angel, I was being silly, as are the friends and other family members who have left this mortal coil before me. And trust me, they are going to get an earful, when I catch up. Leaving me here, how rude!

The Guardian: Charles Darwin was wrong about the tree of life... Evolutionary biologists say crossbreeding between species is far more common than previously thought, making a nonsense of the idea of discrete evolutionary branches:

Not sure I want to see an image of Darwin in all leather (Elvis Comeback Special 1967) or those awful costumes in Vegas!

Pisces

Today may start off with a bang, but it will end with you enjoying the comforts of home. You may be ready to curl up in your favourite sofa for the rest of the day once the Moon enters your fourth house of home and family. Your intuitive powers are peaking now, so listen to what your heart and gut have to say. Ignore what your rational mind says and go with how you feel.
