incidentally, it does not make up potential hermaphrodites, either, in any way shape or form.

God's plan?

Honey, God doesn't have any more plans than the tooth-fairy does.

If you want to argue intelligently for the immorality of something, it's best not to resort to using fictional characters to make your point.

Hmm. Since my wife and I are in our later years, and are beyond the age of child bearing, does that mean we are not meant to exist?
Being homosexual or lesbian IS NOT A CONSCIOUS CHOICE. It is just how some people are.
I have to say this. Burgy I love you. You are quite an inspiration to me and almost always on target. I'm have to say how much I appreciate your truth and wisdom.

If we continue along that line of thought, scientific innovation will eventually cease.
Hey this is not that new. Didn't God make this happen with a woman named Mary. She had a baby, named him Jesus or something. Okay, so Mary wasn't a lesbian( as far as we know anyway). But she did have get pregnant without the traditional man contributes sperm method. So science is just saying that's possible. What's the problem. Don't worry all you gotta keep reproducing the way we know best because it's normal crowd, life will still continue. You keep doing the way you like best and just know that there are alternatives if that doesn't work anymore. Of course most of you are not willing to protect the environment anyway and have no problem with the whole "world's end" anyway so what do you care?

Thank you for understanding. It's nice to know another person does, particularly another female. We should all just be ourselves, and let OTHER'S be themselves. And try to break these horrible gender roles that leave people in such horrible situations, like men being abused and feeling like they can't speak out about it.
For some reason this whole thread had fallen out of my reply window. I saw it had popped up on the forum and realized I'd missed a lot. I read backwards and saw your reply.

I didn't really want to ever be trapped by my gender. It's too easy to lapse into those roles. It's kind of funny, I post on the Science/Tech boards and some people think I'm a guy. So what. I saw the limitations of my sex (males have limitations, too) at a young age, hated the way girls could act, hung out with guys, wondered why I had to develop a chest that would just "get in the way" and completely understood why an Amazon would cut off her right breast in order to be a better archer.

I grew up to be a person. A chivalrous person who holds the door for both genders and opens the car door for my husband but doesn't expect him to do it for me. Who didn't need to be asked on bended knee when we both decided to marry. We'll be taking each other on a date on Valentine's (the day we met) and because we know how to play both the gender roles we will romance each other - unless we get in a fight - but I'd even rather fight with him than be with anyone else. I adore him.

Here's a little story. Our two friends were fighting over the toilet seat issue. He said, why should he put it down after he pees, it makes just as much sense for her to put it up for him. She said the seat should always be down, he was an insensitive jerk and she could fall in if she didn't notice it up. Now I've actually sat down in the toilet in a dark bathroom when the seat is up, so I could relate to her side. Still, he was right. Why should he have to keep picking it up and putting it down to suit her.

My husband came into the room and I asked him what he thought. He said, "The cover should be closed, it looks better." Ha! I love that man. What a good answer for an non-issue.

"Yay" for blurred gender roles and "Boo" to anyone who puts a person down or judges them for not fitting the norm. Double "Yay" for androgynous relationships.

Hee hee, I found an Androgynous Name generator:

http://www.blogthings.com/androgynousnamegene...

Here's what I do. Love myself. Practice kindness and understanding. Know my own mind. Try to see all sides of an issue. Hang with people who are cool - which includes my grown kids and their friends. See people as people - no matter what form they bear or how few or many years they have acquired.

Check out some Japanese manga sometime. Lots of those authors are blurring the gender lines big time.

TrilbyKat, I know I've said it before , but one more time. I love your contributions to these forums. Your husband sounds like a good guy. I agree with him. I mean, what the heck is the lid for if nobody uses it?

The point is not whether a person's value should be based on their ability or desire to reproduce - the point is whether we need another artificial way to create life. By saying that if you can't reproduce you do not deserve to exist is rather medieval, doncha think? Further, in some species, if no male is available, the females turn into males and vice versa.

Further, evolution has not stopped - it is continuing in every organism on Earth - including humans - and will continue into infinity. But, should humans drive their own evolution? No other species has the capacity to control their environment, or overcome any built-in inhibitions to procreation - be it homosexuality or infertility - nor has any other species impacted the planet as greatly as humanity. Shall we now also populate it to the point where there is no longer enough resources to take care of what already lives? Is it more important for each individual to have a "biological" child than to take care of someone else's child? Have we become so selfish that having a child has now become a right instead of a miracle?

Whether it is ethical to create sperm or eggs from non-gamete cells is a question we all need to ask ourselves. As a scientist, it disturbs me that often things are done simply because we can without any care for the impact these actions have on the future of humanity (can you say atom bomb?).

I think it is time that we as a species stop being so selfish in our belief that the world exists for our pleasure and start understanding how we can use our gifts more for the common good and health of the planet.
