Pack your bags for Baghdad? Iraq looks to tourism

Someone had fun tinkering with the airline board at the old, disused terminal at Baghdad International Airport.

Iraq is indeed a potential tourism hotspot; it is filled with historical and religious sites - and its people are friendly and possess an excellent sense of humour. Last month, an entreprenuers' convention was held in Baghdad, and a beautiful, upscale hotel is in the works there as well. There is realistic hope for the country's economic success due to capital from both overseas business ventures and visitors - not just from oil.

I do. The market for (especially) European and American travel is always good-to-excellent and world travelers crave "new" sights and cultures. Iran sees a remarkable number of European visitors each year (as well as some Americans, the vast majority of these being guide-led). Egypt, Turkey, and Israel have always been on travelers' "to-go" lists and will continue so. Kuwait and Qatar are amicable. Other countries in the Middle East, including Iraq, are filled with beauty and history.

In my experience, when the PEOPLE of different countries visit with one another, politics and military strategies are the furthest from their minds. They end up having much more in common than not. Tourism can only be healthy (and prosperous) for those countries who understand this.

I'm also anxious to visit Australia one day. Cheers!
